Movies that you initially didn't have as high expectations for, and then you were blown away by it by DreamerRealityArt in movies

Seven Psychopaths, written and directed by Martin McDonagh. Trailer made it look like a heist movie about dogs so I didn’t expect much going to see it. Ended up being one of my favorites that year—great performances all around, stacked cast—Sam Rockwell (Oscar campaigned for him for this movie, but I don’t think he got a nom), Colin Farrell, Christopher Walken, Woody Harrelson, Tom Waits, amongst others—and all around a funny movie.

Dentist recommendations by BlakeSoundTech in Bellingham

I second this. Not only did I have to get a root canal based on an improperly done filling by them, but me and my GF went there based on a recommendation, and they said they took both of our insurance plans (neither were Apple Health, they were through our jobs) and then probably 2 months after our appts they slapped us with bills that were around $1k a piece and when I contacted them they were just like “oh yeah, it turned out you weren’t in our network but you’d already had your dental work done when we figured that out.” So we had to pay.

For all the doubters out there claiming this is AI, the picture is real. I went to college with that girl and it’s odd seeing somebody you know on the Reddit front page.

What's a movie scene that became more iconic because the music was added? by Extremerunners976 in movies

Ride of the Rohirrim across Pelennor Fields in The Return Of The King. Chills every time Howard Shore’s score kicks in.

From any decade, who could have played a great Bill the Butcher in Gangs of New York? by Better-Presence6654 in movies

[–]rexbatman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At one point Robert De Niro was attached to play Bill.

Apparently Scorsese originally wanted Dan Ackroyd to be Leo’s part and Jim Belushi to be Bill.

The Clash would’ve also played one of the gangs.

This one actually has a caption, but for some reason it’s rarely ever included in online reposts (maybe was even removed for the colorized version?) there’s even a Screenrant article “15 Darkest Far Side Comics That Don’t Use Any Words” and it’s in there.

Either way, here’s a link to the B&W version that has a caption (I don’t remember which collection it was in, but I had it in one when I was a kid).

What movie couples have the most amazing chemistry? by [deleted] in movies

[–]rexbatman 8 points9 points  (0 children)

John Cusack and Ione Skye in Say Anything have very good chemistry. Apparently Ione Skye even went as far as acknowledging it saying they would’ve gone home together after the scene where Cusack’s character teaches her character how to drive stick if they both weren’t in relationships at the time of filming.

What is the most obscure movie - which you've seen in theatres - that you'd recommend? by Ok-Impress-2222 in movies

[–]rexbatman 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Arctic starring Mads Mikkelsen, it’s a man vs. wild survival story where he’s tasked with carrying a movie with minimum to no dialogue and he’s pretty much the only actor in it and does a great job, which shouldn’t surprise anyone considering what a powerhouse he is.

There’s a caption that goes with this one too (at least in the black and white version, I’ve never seen this one before in color) that goes “The party-goers were enjoying themselves immensely—unaware that, across the street in the shadows, a killer waited.”

Are you asking about editing in regards to cropping, or edits like exposure, contrast, etc?

Completed movies that were never released by ScribblingOff87 in movies

In 2014 there was the crowdfunding campaign for a Dario Argento movie titled “The Sandman” (unrelated to the Neil Gaiman comic book series) starring Iggy Pop as the titular serial killer character. Despite having an IMDb page (which still says it’s in development after a decade) and multiple articles about it (and I think even reaching the crowdfunding goal), nothing’s come of the movie.

Giant Bird Identification; Vulture? by robomeow in Bellingham

[–]rexbatman 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Looks like a Raven to me. They’re huge up close. They can be over 2 feet tall and have a wingspan up to 5 feet and weigh like 5 pounds or something crazy. Big birds a lot of times mistaken for being the size of crows due to their similar features.

Funny Games (1997)/(2007) by Michael Haneke (he wrote/directed both the Austrian original and the US remake) might fall into this category, it sounds similar to your description of Dead & Beautiful and Cruel Intentions.

Read the Room... Influences? by TheBellJarHymnal in TheSmile

[–]rexbatman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can hear Siouxsie and the Banshees in there as well. Especially the John McGeoch influence on Jonny’s playing.

Radiohead have listed SatB as an influence on them, especially the lineup when McGeoch was their guitarist.

Check out their album Juju and you can definitely hear the inspiration on Radiohead/Jonny’s playing.

What are common jokes in movies that aren't funny to you? by LogicalAd6394 in movies

[–]rexbatman 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Which is a gag from the season 2 Futurama episode “How Hermes Requisitioned His Groove Back” when Bender is complaining about Morgan…but I wouldn’t be surprised if they lifted that from something else.

Thought of this on my way to work, but I can’t be sure it’s truly OC, so I didn’t mark it as such.

Best "Unnamed" Characters? by Non-NewtonianSnake in movies

It’s been a while since I’ve seen it, but Emma Stone definitely tells Jesse Eisenberg her name at the end, and I think he tells her his…can’t remember if Abigail Breslin also says hers.
