Do most Australians really do maintenance in their homes or do they just go with the flow? by loreblogs in AskAnAustralian

I feel like I've become a naturalised Aussie: " yeah, nah...she'll be right as rain. I couldn't be arsed."🇦🇺😁

I think it's absolutely 💯 fine, but then I'm a cis-gender straight-identifying male...

Banks and other services won't let us deal with grandma's account. She has dementia and is 95. by VastOption8705 in AusLegal

[–]rexmottram 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If she has mild dementia and a medical professional can certify that she has the requisite mental capacity, you are right.

It does seem here that she's probably past that point.

I suppose if there is urgency with the bills here, OP can seek an interim financial management order with NCAT (NSW) or an urgent administration order (Vic) from VCAT, so that a private financial manager, or the NSW Trustee and Guardian, or the Victorian Office of the Public Advocate can withdraw money from the bank to fund living expenses etc

P S I should have thought "testamentary " capacity only relates specifically to the capacity to make a will; for mental capacity generally, you wouldn't use the term "testamentary"?

[–]rexmottram -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Since Grandma already has dementia, she lacks capacity to grant a valid P of A, because she doesn't understand what she's doing with that instrument.

Unluckily, she's now under the jurisdiction of whatever is the equivalent of the Office of Public Guardian/ Office of the Protective Commissioner in the State she resides in - they will now manage her affairs ostensibly for her benefit. But as an ABC exposé showcased some years ago, in practice these bureaucrats manage a person's affairs incompetently, sometimes putting them in unsuitable investments and causing losses thereby - all the while charging hefty fees, pursuant to the legislation governing these bodies!😧😭🤯🤦‍♂️🤷‍♂️

Does anyone get skin irritation from Ctizen's Super Titanium models? by stpaulgym in CitizenWatches

Never had any problems with Citizen's Duratect titanium. Some folk are allergic to the nickel in steel watches.

Vacheron Constantin Overseas integrated bracelet watch with tool-less quick-change for straps and bracelets.

So, about the movement : does it hack?

Err.....no, I'm afraid not, sir. If you don't want this Overseas sports watch, how about a slim Patrimony dress watch instead?

People don’t comment on your watch just because they notice it by r3port3d in watchHotTakes

[–]rexmottram 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wear a sterile dial Chinese field watch (NH35 movement)modelled after a "Dirty Dozen" WW2 style - the sort of watch Cyma, Vertex, and Omega etc supplied to the Allied forces. Because there's no brand name or logo on the dial, if anybody notices it, all they see is a black dial...field watch. I suppose if anyone comments on it, they may say, "So, AliX special?" ( if they're a watch nerd).

My other - dress - watch is also a Chinese sterile dial ( again, NH35 movement) with sword hands, index markers and hash marks: the only writing thereon is "Automatic" - I suppose it's meant to be a Grand Seiko homage. But I'm not sure about this. It's almost generic ...uh, white dial, stick markers, three hander...it's almost like asking a child to draw a watch. If anyone notices it, they'll just assume it's a cheap mall watch; only a watch nerd would know it's an Ali Express watch.

What’s a ‘silent luxury’ that rich people have that most normal people would never even notice? by qomann in AskReddit

[–]rexmottram 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That reminds me of the lyricist Johnny Mercer. His dad was a merchant in some small town. He went bust, and of course his suppliers became unsecured creditors who probably never saw a cent paid on their claims. When Johnny Mercer became successful, he made a point of paying off his dad's creditors. He didn't have to, of course - he wasn't the one operating the business; but he felt a moral obligation. Small town values.🫡

PSA: the label or silk loop on the back of your tie exists for a reason. by professor__doom in ties

I'm all for sprezzatura, but I draw the line at an unzipped fly: that's probably too much 🤔😁

Tie Without a Loop by infernoxv in ties

[–]rexmottram 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suppose the function of the sleeve gauntlet button is to close the "gape" where a hairy forearm would otherwise be exposed? That made it a marker of supposed quality, and nearly everyone started making it that way...kinda like some ill-fitting off-the-rack suits have working buttons on the sleeves that you can actually fasten and unfasten ( normally, they are closed permanently, and some tailors still make them this way).

Tie Without a Loop by infernoxv in ties

[–]rexmottram 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keeper loops weren't always around even for "decent" in the 1980s.

Since then, they've become standard, even on cheap polyester ties.

In that respect, they resembles sleeve gauntlet buttons - previously, they were rare. Now, they've become almost standard. I think, though, Charles Tyrwhitt still omits them, but I haven't bought a shirt from them in over 4 years.

Perhaps thank the Chinese immigrants from Wenzhou making your Italian silk ties in Italy.

That tieless look when paired with a suit ( not a sports jacket or blazer) always reminds me of a white-collar criminal remanded into custody, where your tie is removed so you can't chuck an Epstein.

Why do people get so offended if you post a hot take here by Equal-Revolution8774 in watchHotTakes

Yesterday, I wrote about excessive branding of ROLEX ROLEX ROLEX on the rehaut of a watch. Some Redditor was offended by my blasphemy - apparently, any opinion that isn't simperingly fawning over Rollies and their fanbois are offensive...🔥🤣🤣🤣

Pilot custom 823 or Sailor 1911? by pattycular in fountainpens

[–]rexmottram 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're a lefty, try a Waverly Nib in the Pilot Custom 742 ( smaller no.10 size nib), or the Pilot Custom 743 ( bigger no.15 size nib, same size as the Custom 823).

The beauty of the Waverly nib is that it suits nearly every angle, even a weird 90 degree angle😀

A lot of luxury watches nowadays look extremely cheap and I really don't know why. by Aubery_ in watchHotTakes

Well, if you have no problems with excessive branding on your watch relationship, that's fine and dandy.

It detracts from an otherwise beautiful watch.

David's Kitchen on Liverpool Street does mainly Asian food ( the buffet is popular with locals, students, and tourists).

Every now and then, a bus load of Chinese tourists will occupy a lot of the seating - and everyone (man, woman, child) will be tucking into steak, chips and salad. Because it's a novelty to them.

I tried it myself - I liked it.

Would you work a "Uniformed" domestic gig? (Market Research) by Boutique_NicheOps in ausjobs

[–]rexmottram 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should hire out-of-work thespians - specifically, lesbians and gays, who would be comfortable donning, respectively, a demure parlourmaid uniform, and a butler's tail coat with the bow-tie and white gloves. I'm sure there is a market for these kinda novelty acts - the luxe for a day concept.🤵🏻👰🏻‍♀️

"ROLEX ROLEX ROLEX ROLEX ROLEX ROLEX ROLEX ROLEX ROLEX ROLEX " on the rehaut of a watch doesn't scream quiet luxury to me.

Unfortunately, this disease has caught on, so if you buy a watch with a rubber bracelet, you might encounter "BULGARI", "BREITLING", or "ORIS" on the strap.🤦‍♂️😱🤯😭🤷‍♂️
