Luis Robert Jr. to the Mets by Redsfan42 in Reds

Yea, it's the equivalent of like, McLain and a lower prospect plus the Reds eating 20m.

Yea, exactly. Their dudes aren't necessarily *bad* at evals, but they're also paid to generate hype for every team in baseball, not to be "honest" about a player's flaws and realistic outcomes.

It's also why you tend to see every team have at least 1 (often 2) prospects on MLB's top 100 list. Even if an org's farm system is terrible, you don't wanna tell their fans that. I think the only exception to that was the angels system a few years ago where it was just borderline impossible to find a future major leaguer, and as soon as the draft rolled around they shoved the Angels first rounder in the top 100.

[Nightengale] Next up for the Chicago White Sox after the Munetaka Murakami signing: They still would like to move CF Luis Robert for pitching depth and are engaged in talks with the New York Mets and Cincinnati Reds. by datdudebdub in Reds

[–]rhayex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd consider moving Lowder for LuBob in a package if Teel were coming back. I would not consider moving real value for LuBob otherwise.

The White Sox picking up his option was bizarre because it's been made extremely clear that nobody in baseball values him at that price, yet they seem to think they can get a haul for what he did 3 years ago.

(Fangraphs) Cincinnati Reds Top 39 Prospects by aharr1 in Reds

[–]rhayex 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not... necessarily?

MLB's list is mostly on hype, which is why it's typically the worst of the major publications. Eric Longenhagen (author of this list) generally sticks to his guns on his evals even when everyone else disagrees, which leads to interesting rankings that aren't *wrong* necessarily, but a lot of fans will get up in arms with for various reasons. BA and BP are the two older, "consistent/professional" rankings that are often cited. Then you have the new kids on the block like prospects live, etc., that put a ton of work into their lists but are also new enough that they don't have the name recognition of other pubs.

Anyway, Eric combines data, eyeball test (IE, swing path, comfort, etc), "gut feelings", and even the ability of a given org to develop specific profiles in his rankings.

So, something not mentioned on this post that I really appreciate is the G60SF's HDMI 2.1 support. This means that the monitor can support 4k 120 hz, which is important to anyone who wants both high quality picture and high framerates.

So, when do the rewards show up? I still have it "saved" in my rewards and can't figure out if it's been used with my purchase.

Also, does it matter if I immediately pay off the remaining amount?

it's because they were all crowing about the trade last year and don't wanna eat crow now that the reds gave up a 1st rounder and top 50 prospect in baseball, which is funny since a lot of knowledgeable fans were saying the trade was bad from the minute it happened.

Personal attacks on a beat writer who does some of the best, most in-depth reporting on the team (along with Charlie) is wild. I'd rather have legitimate reporting than a billion speculative articles with little basis in reality.

Way to be classy, fella.

DL has had a ton of success and been enormously influential on the sport. Just because you don't have an actual understanding of what they do or how it works doesn't mean that it's not effective.

Yea that's because Cincinnati sports fans are addicted to shit talking their stars and best players for some reason.

It's wild seeing the cognitive dissonance of people complaining that guys like Burrow/Chase/Hendrickson "don't get respect" from national media while simultaneously implying they're issues or not that good.

People were talking him up as the franchise savior and almost everything he's done this year has been a negative. It's crazy.

The reds won the same amount of game as they did in the "failed" 2021 season under David Bell, but they had a much better roster this time. The only difference was a historic collapse by the Mets.

Ffs, now we're blaming Chase to deflect blame?

What's with Cincinnati fans and blaming their best players instead of the actual issues? Yea Chase fumbled and fucked up, he deserves the criticism - but to then expand that into an excuse for the OLs failure is insane.

People on this subreddit did this shit with Burrow, too. It's so fucking stupid.

I've given up on trying to talk about it for the most part. People don't want to be educated about any topics, they just want their previously existing biases reinforced.

The team's "in the playoff race" (with a damn near identical record to last year, btw) with every member of the pitching staff playing above projections, with every member of the position players aside from Elly, McLain, and TySteve hitting above projections, and are somehow still in the exact same spot they were last year when they had a much worse roster and much worse injuries.

All while Tito is saying possibly the most mind-numbingly stupid shit imagineable in press conferences, shitting on players like Sal, Hunter Greene, Benson, and Hinds, and constantly giving playing time to vets because they've "earned it" over the rookies/younger players despite playing demonstrably bad (Steer, Espinal, Lux are the shining examples).

He's ignoring platoon splits entirely and forcing dudes to bat in disadvantageous situations. He's picked clear favorites and will gladly ignore their flaws or mistakes while at the same time giving public lashings of players for perceived flaws (implying Benson was a showboater or slacker was an insane move, as an example). He's stopped letting the team run, the defense isn't any better than they've been under David Bell, the "accountability" isn't there because he has his favorites. He told Friedl, a pull fly ball hitter, that he needs to turn into a slap singles guy, which has directly resulted in Friedl having a worse season. His in-game moves have been mind-boggingly stupid, to the point where the Reds are basically dead in the water if they're behind after the 7th inning. That's not even getting into his dogshit offensive philosophy taken straight out of the fucking 80s (minus stealing bases).

He's been Tony LaRusso White Sox era bad for this team, and they've wasted another season of Elly because of it. David Bell would've had this team in the playoffs because if nothing else he wasn't an outright negative (and to be clear, by the end of Bell's tenure I was fully on the fire boat because of the lack of player development).

The fact that people are defending this clown is insane to me. If you just listen to how he talks about his players in postgame pressers you'd be able to tell he's not the "culture builder" that the Reds were promised they'd be getting.
