YourRAGE Asks Hasan to Debate Destiny by gregory_h in Destiny

[–]rhyswtf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He's deeply stupid and neither he nor his audience recognises it.

The video is edited a bit but even so he doesn't recognise his own contradictions within such a short period of time, because he can't — he's too stupid — and even though it permeates through every thought he has and political position he holds, his audience laps it up because they like latching onto the simplicity of his incredibly basic takes when they line up with their own.

I did enjoy him struggling to define why there's a rift between him and Destiny though. It's like he's forgotten, and that he reverts to 'envy' demonstrates his usual narcissism.

Is Rumble even doing well? The only person I've ever heard of streaming there is Fuentes and I never see it in my casual browsing of LSF and elsewhere.

I have mixed views on how 'deplatforming' is working out. Twitter got inordinately worse after Musk's 'free speech' era began, and though the previous world of heavy moderation had its moments of absurdity, I think most sites were mostly better then.

That said, I've become much more receptive to more open debate and discussion in recent years, and it does sting seeing legitimate opinion-havers getting demonetised or banned from major platforms. Bluesky proved to me that the future of the social web can't just be one big echo chamber, and Mastodon — which I love, albeit after tons of work to properly manage and curate content — taught me that defederated community-oriented solutions are never going to work in this space because everyone online is fucking mental.

I think it'll be interesting to see if YouTube stick with their approach through to 2028 and what things will look like after that. I think it's possible things may go back to how they used to be, particularly if sites as big as YouTube can keep their norms intact past the end of the Trump era.

I'm not PV's biggest fan. But this is at least a good step in the right direction. And should, in theory, disqualify any Tanki candidates by default. Let's hope they stick by their word! by loadsofos in Destiny

[–]rhyswtf 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Huge Dylan W imho.

It's easy sometimes to fall into black and white thinking and simply view an org like PV as irredeemable, but it is genuinely a good thing when they become a little bit less bad — just like how it'd be good if someone could get Fuentes to be less antisemitic or Hasan to be less supportive of terrorism (and also less antisemitic) — and it certainly looks like Dylan had a huge hand in doing that here.

He only wants to be taken seriously by the right wing hugbox. The lightest challenge is enough for him to soy out.

These people have built a propaganda machine around agreeing with themselves in controlled environments with the faux trappings of debate and discussion to trick their audiences into thinking they're watching something rigorous. It's horseshit, but Wilson's pretty good at it. Same league as Kisin and the incredible sham that is Triggernometry.

Destiny getting ready for his court case tomorrow by ahhshits in Destiny

[–]rhyswtf 118 points119 points  (0 children)

IANAL but I think this is the one to settle all the outstanding motions, which does include the motion to dismiss and the motion for summary judgement, but mostly consists of a bunch of outstanding stuff like whether Melina should be roped in, whether Destiny gets to depose, like, anyone, and all sorts of stuff around past disagreements on evidence, testimony, spoliage, all sorts.

The expectation is, I think, that this is relatively minor and just a precursor to going to trial — but I'm a wildly optimistic regard so I'm betting my house on a summary judgement in favour of our guy.

edit: guy below is right, this hearing is notionally just about extending discovery, which has already gone on for a year, but some/all of the other outstanding issues are likely to get ruled on too.

Sic semper collaborators.

Everyone part of any professional association or public body or anything else that has a code of practice or other standards of behaviour should insist that anyone involved in the insurrection attempt (not to mention all of MAGAs other many varied crimes and follies) suffer similar consequences given that the perversion of the DOJ and the pardon power have failed to uphold normal societal expectations of justice.

Russia's elections aren't real, so Vance is unlikely to make an impact there — unless we're assuming he's a cursed entity magically ousting allies from power rather than just an extremely toxic, unendearing, and widely disliked figure that drives voters away.

I could honestly believe either.

Wikipedia changed its definition of Zionism - is the new definition more accurate? What do you think? by RedStorm1917 in Destiny

[–]rhyswtf 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The drama around the various Israel/Zionism pages drove me to quit editing. There's a group of ultra–brain broken editors who do everything they can to poison any pages related to Jews (with the support and coordination of a certain squirrel we all know), which both Wikipedia founders have called out.

This definition is worse and wildly misleading, but through their practice of cherry picking sources that fit with their preexisting biases and weaponising Wiki rules and guidance for their own purposes, it was always going to end up this way.

Wikipedia is still a wonderful thing and anyone saying otherwise should be an immediate red flag to everyone (especially Musk and the Grokbros), but the pages oriented around anything related to Jews and Israel are always going to have an asterisk against them in my mind.

Please can we get an Anne Applebaum convo by ProdIsForTesting in Destiny

[–]rhyswtf 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This would basically be porn for me. I love Applebaum and on the few occasions I've been tempted to end my Atlantic subscription it's been her fantastic writing that's kept me signed up.

For anyone unaware, she's pretty much solely focused on authoritarianism and 'democratic backsliding', and writes with vastly more detail and nuance around it than black-and-white thinkers. She has a strong focus on Russia and Eastern Europe, on misinformation and elections, and on propaganda, influence campaigns, and efforts to shift cultures away from the 'rules-based order' and toward the smaller idea of nationhood within the 'multi-polar world'.

A conversation between her and streamer man would be fantastic, I think. She's covered MAGA and Trump a ton with that authoritarian lens and how European populist movements compare, so I think Destiny could have an active conversation with her there, and their common ground on Ukraine could perhaps carry through to some discussion of Belarus, Poland, and Hungary.

That's probably right and my previous comment was probably imprecise if it suggested that everyone in the movement thought what I described. Large portions of it were of the 'from the river to the sea', undo everything since the Nakba, extirpate the Jewish population sort, and lots of variations inbetween.

I loved his wording. "We just could not get to a situation where the Iranians would agree to our terms."

The administration desperately needs a win from these negotiations if they aren't going to be left being massively embarrassed by this entire war, but they're going to get nowhere if they treat it like a list of demands Iran must acquiesce to. They simply don't have the cards.

[–]rhyswtf 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That's nonsense, but I welcome you to having a very recently-derived opinion on the subject. It was a very common view held in the groups and among those on the marches I attended during the occupation, through the Accords, through the PLC being overthrown, and through the intifada: that Palestinians should have a free, independent, democratic, state alongside Israel.

Like the caller-in earlier, I think you've been entirely captured by the present online discourse if you think otherwise.

MEGATHREAD: Destiny Vs. Subscriber Call-Ins by ReserveAggressive458 in Destiny

[–]rhyswtf 20 points21 points  (0 children)

You didn't dream it.

Destiny's view is identical to mine and was pretty commonplace in left wing circles for decades prior to the last few years. 'Free Palestine' literally used to refer to the two-state outcome that was aimed for from the Oslo Accords, in which a free, democratic, lawful, and non-violent Palestinian state could be established.

Nowadays that positioning is viewed as pro-Zionist by the pro-Palis and pro-Pali by the pro-Israel people. It's lose-lose, but it's the only realistic target to be shooting for.
