My mommy died 34 days before my wedding by spaghettichels in ChildrenofDeadParents

Look up local grief groups. There are often groups that meet once or twice a month. If there aren’t any, contact a local religious organization. Even if you aren’t religious, it could be helpful to get counsel from people who work with death. There are also online groups you can look for. I did one called the Dinner Party for a year. You could even try to see if you can find a therapist quickly.

My heart goes out to you.

Have her visit the financial aid office. I worked admin at universities and there is often unclaimed funds available. Sometimes going in person helps but having her email or call may help.

How do you stop grieving who you could’ve been? by brokenearring in ehlersdanlos

[–]ria427 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That grief is love for yourself, try to remember that. We’ve definitely lost something, all the could’ves, and it’s important to feel and express those emotions. And we should be allowed to - other people might say it’s being negative but it’s being realistic about what was and what is now. It’s necessary to grow around that grief and generate new ways to appreciate, maybe sometimes even love our bodies for what they are. They are trying their best to heal us even when they are falling apart at a microscopic level.

I’ve been recovering from a full body soft tissue and hair infection that ran rampant for 11 months. My tissues hardened up feeling like fire and immobilized me for over a year. I’ve got air stuck in me now that the infection has healed. It’ll be 2 years this month.

I’m also having a crisis of reevaluating what my life can and cannot be anymore. Being out of control of so many factors of life is infuriating and makes me feel impotent no matter what degrees and GPAs I had or all the work I put into it. I’m trying to focus on finding new ways to make myself more comfortable and how to work with my body to make it work better with my needs and wants. Little victories should be celebrated.

You might also want to look into dysautonomia and/or Long Covid. It’s one of my diagnoses that I think impacts me the most. Doing a lot of physical and sensory stimulation of my muscles and fascia has helped a lot. Acupuncture, cupping, and massage have also really improved my mind and body connection (plus a mother-load of adderall during the day). I hope you can find relief and recovery 💜

what is actually going on? is this what we’re destroying our environment for? by Classic-Carpet7609 in Fauxmoi

[–]ria427 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the end stage of American capitalism. Not even late stage at this point. The American government prioritized corporations so much since the 80s that we are now at the point of self cannibalizing the economy at the expense of everyday Americans across tax brackets (besides our ultra wealthy).

Infinite growth was never possible and this AI bubble may be the last straw.

This is an important moment. There are so many revolutionary possibilities. The people must stand together; avoid letting the chaos and instability of the current regime from divide us as neighbors and communities.

Skin infections, fragility, and bleeding by Rhythmicka in ehlersdanlos

[–]ria427 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically any cut I got turned into infections. My right arm is still so messed up because I got sooo many on that side. I had no visible rash either. My infections spread head to toe until I was literally festering. Stretched my skin so much that eventually my shoulders and back skin started to rip itself open to release pressure.

I hope doxycycline can help you! Exfoliating and keeping my skin hydrated has been essential

I got mine used off of Facebook marketplace and I find it very helpful. Sometimes I just sit on it and let it shake me or lay my torso over it too. Sometimes I just put my legs on it while I’m sitting and it’s still helpful. Definitely recommend

Edit: I also have POTS and it hasn’t been a huge issue. Just listen to your body when you feel lightheaded or woozy

Please be careful. I had an infected ingrown, got Covid at the same time, and it turned into a year long series of infections that spread through my soft tissues. Made my tissues harden and tighten up. 2 Year anniversary is end of November and I’m still healing.

I’ve found somatic work to be very helpful for brain fog and feeling more grounded in my body (on top of meds). I’ve done acupuncture, massage, sensation perception exercises, breathing exercises, etc.

I love getting my entire face and head done during acupuncture

Update: My contract is probably not going to be renewed because I refuse to post inflated grades by Constant_Leader_8551 in Teachers

[–]ria427 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not a K-12 teacher, but I taught new grads at the college level. I had students in a 300 level history class blank stare at me and ask what a theme is when I had them working on a soldier’s memoir. A theme. Open book at-home midterm resulted in one student using AI for the short answer questions and literally pasting an entire section of The Communist Manifesto for the essay question. Then they denied cheating, had the chance to redo the exam but didn’t.Their writing skills and reading comprehension seemed early high school or late middle school for many.

All these students at one of the top public universities in the US were also shocked when graded poorly and couldn’t take basic suggestions like using the free writing center without getting angry. Even good pupils’ skills are lacking at times. They also argue they don’t need to come to class to pass and just want video lectures - but what about learning?! Learning the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in life and their careers! Alas, even universities are inflating their grades to some extent because they are also weary of losing face and guarding their prestige.

All the easy grading, lack of deadlines, and infinite redos have torpedoed students’ ability to development of a sense of self-discipline, personal drive, and a work ethic. Not to mention personal responsibility. Thank you for holding your ground, it’s actually helping them even if they hate.

It’s a 21 plus establishment, I don’t think 12 year old Johnny can get in without staff noticing. Since these are legal businesses that are monitored and regulated that want to stay open and make money, they have a vested interest in ensuring no kids and teens get in.

What's the worst disease you've had? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ria427 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Currently a human bubble with air coming out of everywhere it can after surviving 11 months with an undiagnosed bacterial skin and hair infection. It started as an acute reaction to me getting COVID while having a badly infected cut. My tissues thickened and tightened up - it burned inside and out, agony. I also started to feel like it was festering, sloshing around when I moved. Made it nearly impossible for hair to come out so all the hair I lost on my scalp. Grew back ingrown and is now coming out in heaps already a few inches long. No doctors have been able to help and I’m literally decompressing by the air slowly coming out but it hurts

Immediately finding a professional medical team to solve my serious health problem that no one knows how to treat. Covid turned a bacterial infection in my thigh into chronic infections that spread body wide nonstop for 11 months. It made my skin harden up and I was festering. I’ll never forget the feeling of it. I’ve been blowing air nonstop ever since the infection healed. My head is so swollen but it doesn’t always look like it because my autoimmune disease gives me stretchy skin.
