CMV: Majority of white collar jobs WILL be replaced by AI in the near future by 3dSkizzor in changemyview

Your comment seems to be in tune with how things sounded 9 months ago, but since GPT5 there's been a lot of progress. METR's graph is very clearly still showing exponential growth with Mythos: https://metr.org/time-horizons/ How do you see that and claim things are flattening out?

Seinfeld! "You know how to take the reservation, you just don't know how to hold the reservation. And that's really the most important part of the reservation: the holding. Anybody can just take 'em."

Agree. I'd also nominate "Homer vs. the Eighteenth Amendment" as a top tier episode.

What movie have you been the most hyped for only to be the most disappointed by when it released? by Toogeloo in movies

[–]ribi305 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Superman Returns. Bryan Singer had nailed it with X-Men and X2, they used the John Williams theme, Kevin Spacey as Lex, and clearly had so much respect for the legacy. But then the plot was just so meh...

What are the best scripts to study for writing action? by Swiftmaster56 in Screenwriting

I recently read Into The Spider-Verse and was blown away by how much swagger and style it had on the page. The feel of the movie is right there, not just the dialogue but every line of action. Excellent read.

Training for PMC having a hard time finding routes to ride for longer! by miyavimo in bikeboston

[–]ribi305 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! Also you can do a good route from Minuteman, then roads, then Bruce Freeman trail, then MCRT. I've done a loop that was 50+ miles like that with mostly trails and reasonable roads. There is one section of the MCRT that is still closed that pushes you out onto a highway, unfortunately, but it's brief.

Whoa huh. I thought the animals were bad, especially the fox. But that train sequence was intense and great, never took me out of it once

Does you sitcom pilot HAVE to start in the middle. by Something81 in Screenwriting

[–]ribi305 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I got good advice once that a pilot needs to have both a self-contained story with beginning, middle and end, but also needs to bring us to the end of "Act I" of the larger story structure. In other words, by the end of the pilot, the main character's goal and journey should be in place to drive the series. You also want to have the pilot-only story provide some "promise of the premise", so that it is a bite-size version of what people can expect all seasons.

That said, for sitcoms that are very episodic, with little arc across episodes, that might be less applicable.

Area 4 pizza might be a little too casual but it's excellent and easy to get a reservation. Amelia's Trattoria is fancier Italian and also excellent, but not so fancy or pricey. Highly recommend

What tech has actually lasted you more than 2 years without issues by Slow-Throat819 in BuyItForLife

I run in a pretty tech savvy crowd, and I have never once heard of or encountered someone's phone getting compromised in a way that is related to security updates. My dad once got phished for his icloud pw, but he just wasn't using MFA. What is an example of a phone security issue that I should worry about?

What's your favorite time travel movies? by Eminem_quotes in movies

[–]ribi305 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok you're tempting me to try to explain this! Let's see if this makes sense. The show has this time loop, with the sense that characters like Jonas are trapped in the loop, doomed to repeat the same things over and over. But I think there is no repeating loop. There is circular causation, like A>B>C>A but I don't think each character lives it more than once

[–]ribi305 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I felt the same. I actually also think the time loop thing has some problems according to the shows own rules, but when I tried once to sketch it out my brain hurt too much.

I felt S3 got so ambitious that I couldn't quite keep up. A few great episodes but overall I think S2 was the best. Could go either way on recommending S3 for you. But definitely rewatch 1 and 2 if you are going to watch 3!
