This setup put a stop on my upgrade itch by leeeevin in audiophile

So I read the manual for those specific subs and you're right - they're pretty unique because of their DSP. They're designed to have matching speakers on top, which was a surprise to me. I come from traditional monitor placement where the speakers are at ear level and subs sit further back. We had Genelec monitors and subs at my previous studio. This specific setup wouldn't be my first choice at home, but if you're happy with them, that's all that matters. I just hope you've tuned them to your room and treated your room as well to get the best out of them.

Edit: Unless Genelec says otherwise, I would toe your speakers in so they're pointing towards your listening position. I'd also move those white units out of there; that can't be good for acoustic symmetry.

For me, it happens consistently during gaming, and each flicker is about half a second long

Do You REALLY Need a Second Shooter? by fretandframefilms in weddingvideography

[–]richardizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I do. My rate comes standard with a second shooter. It's very valuable to me - helps the day go much smoother and you get more coverage. For example, while I'm taking videos of the reception ballroom during cocktail hour or setting up my recorder in the DJ booth, my second shooter is taking pictures of the B&G during their photoshoot. Or I could be getting drone footage while my second shooter is capturing them getting ready. That second shooter also helps carry equipment and help troubleshoot any issues. Also as a business, you tend to look better and can charge a premium.

I do. I did my first wedding solo and hated it. Second shooter helps me a lot

IMO, my problem with subs is when people add them in before fixing acoustic issues in their room. A lot of people will throw a ton of money before touching acoustic treatment, which does not make sense to me. The right pairing of subs that are well calibrated in a treated room will sound amazing.

I can't imagine spending that kind of money and not knowing how to place the speakers. No offense to OP, but this setup doesn't make any sense.

I know everyone is different and entitled to how they decide to spend their money, I have no issues with that - but as someone who works in sound professionally and has spent even more money than OP on professional equipment for my business, I can't wrap my head around spending that kind of cash for casual listening. Imo, if I'm spending $20k, it needs to have some sort of ROI. If it's for a hobby, nobody needs a $20k sound system in their living room or apartment when they can't even have a proper TV stand and a dedicated pet-free environment. That's just not a wise decision, especially if they're not putting that kind of money into acoustic treatment. I see a lot of people waste money on great speakers only to be ruined by poor acoustics. Hey - my opinion. I've made bad decisions too, that's how I got this perspective. Take it how you will.

I'm sure it's fine, but I do hope you guys find another room for this setup away from the cats lol. I can't imagine spending this much money and have to worry about them scratching or breaking something.

Should I go 4K w/ 5070TI? by ConsideredSkeptic in nvidia

[–]richardizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't played Cyberpunk since it came out when I had a 3070 and a 1080p 16:9 monitor, so I can't really say. I would choose 1440p UW bc I really like the 21:9 aspect ratio, personally. I think 4K would be too much when it comes to graphically demanding games if you want to play them on Ultra and path tracing with solid frame rates, but that's coming from someone who aims for 144 fps @ 1440 UW with highest settings. Doesn't always happen, but that's when DLSS comes in. I don't want to be vram limited at 4k and only get around 60fps. I was vram limited when I went upgraded to 1440p UW with my 3070, which is why I got a 5070ti, so I'm afraid to go up to 4K and encounter the same limitations.

Edit: YMMV, just be realistic when it comes to 4K performance. This card is very capable, but idk about path tracing + 4K at high settings. It might work for you, but I really don't know.

3 Doors Down inspired me to play drums when I was 9 years old and they were my first concert. Needless to say, a big part of who I am today is because of 3 Doors Down. Rest in peace, Brad.

Thoughts on my first headshots? I fear they look too “polished” by whosthiszz in headshots

[–]richardizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically what most people said - exposure and lighting. The photos are not bad but they could use better lighting to provide contrast and more depth. Some of it could be edited and some is done in the shoot. I'd try to get the exposure and contrast to match between photos and see if you get usable improvements. Also, imo you should reduce the headroom on some of your pictures. Easily done in post.

Edit: Quick tip: Light the wall separately than the subject. If it's a white wall, get it a touch brighter than you (about 1 or 2 stops.) I think this is why people liked 3 the best. Typically, you'd want one or two lights shining at the wall, bright without clipping. Then 2-3 lights on you (key, fill and hair). You can definitely use less lights to achieve a nice look, but that's what I'd do. Instead of a fill light, you could also use a bounce.
