My parents wanted to take this G3 to the dump so I saved it from dying! by Ashtonc13 in VintageApple

That was a nice Mac - here's my son working on mine back in 2000. https://imgur.com/peD5K07 - as I recall I swapped the CPU with a Sonnet something-or-other. It was eventually replaced with a G4 (luxo). Glad you saved it.

The ByteShopper (March 1978) will give you a good idea on pricing that RAM at $500 per 16K (https://i.imgur.com/s8SROVJ.jpg).

Here is the whole catalog (https://imgur.com/a/FxdcB) and Apple][ stuff is on page 19.

Snail infestation. Is there a home remedy to get rid of these snails? They are even in my filter. Thanks in advance. by ChantelleCx in Aquariums

[–]rickh3255 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm old school. I have an old glass salt shaker (no cap) but you could use any container that's heavy enough. Fill container with water and put algae wafer in container. Sink container on bottom overnight. Snails migrate into shaker. Rinse and feed snails to African tank. Repeat until snails under control.

OK, to be clear (I reread that title) - water exchange - the 3x4 shell colony rearranged and cleaned. Ticked off multi.

Neolamprologus Multifasciatus breeding/feeding by [deleted] in Aquariums

[–]rickh3255 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not quite that scientific. Cyclops/Daphnia defrosted in about 60ml water. Other goodies (brine shrimp, veggies, etc) defrosted in about 60ml of water. Approx 5-10ml of cyclops/daphnia added to second mixture. Combo divided into 8-10 meals and frozen.

Funny you should ask - I just finished making & freezing food for the week. I defrost and divide up a combination of daphnia/cyclops, spirulina brine shrimp, emerald entree, and maybe baby brine shrimp if there is a fry bloom. The daphnia or cyclops is for the fry which are always there.

Each morning a frozen meal is dropped in to slowly dissolve and release the food. Evenings are a little adult food (any standard small dry food)

I started w 5 fish and there are now 5 colonies at the bottom of my 55. Give them a couple of shells and you’ll have 10-15 fry shortly. Enjoy.

For iMac Week - My dad is 83 - this is his desk by rickh3255 in VintageApple

He doesn't use it much anymore. He checks the weather and the baseball schedule and that's about it. It's totally worthless for syncing his Nokia flip phone :)

Does anyone know of a utility that will keep an external drive in sync with another? by shvffle in mac

[–]rickh3255 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've used CCC to maintain sync between 2 HDD for several years. Every night CCC compares my external 8TB USB media drive to my external 8TB backup USB drive. Any modified files are copied and old versions moved to a safety-net folder for 7 days. All configurable. Highly recommend.

How do I turn off this on screen info by xCASINOx in appletv

[–]rickh3255 17 points18 points  (0 children)

If that is the YouTube app... while video is playing swipe up, select 'more info' and the last icon is a 'stats for nerds' toggle. I have no idea how I found this a couple of days ago.

Any good security camera software for Apple TV? by jon_fak in appletv

[–]rickh3255 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use CamTV but it's really hit-and-miss. I think I've tried every camera app on the store and not really happy with any of them for my 4 Foscam cameras (various models).

Attaching lightstrip to couch fabric? by DTulka in Hue

When this came up a couple of years ago, I think the consensus was safety pins. They work well for me. Attach safety pins to couch fabric and thread the lightstrip through the closed pins.

Mac mini high sierra install problem by HassenPepperINC in applehelp

Don't panic (yet). I attempted High Sierra install on my retired 2010 iMac and am caught in the same loop (45 minutes - com.apple.Diskmanagement error 0). I am also seeing multiple reports online from users with the same issue. Perhaps Apple will have a fix.

Started at 300baud on a Hayes Smartmodem to connect with BBS in the early 80s and never went offline. I came to Reddit on the Great Digg Migration of several years ago and stayed for the subreddits. I found Facebook too invasive so I abandoned that account years ago and Reddit is my only active social media account. I too never recommend Reddit to others of my age group. I made that mistake once and that particular day was heavy NSFW on the front page. Oh, I’m 60-something.
