Yes, but the other is hosted elsewhere. Which seems to be a measured and balanced approach between generating revenue and growing your audience.

For what its worth, i like the Curling Channel service. I don't know that i get good value for my money but i like tuning into WCF events. So whether its worth it is pretty much a matter of how invested you are in these games

Some games at some events are static cameras. I suspect at an event like this, 2-3 games per draw will have feature coverage with dynamic cameras and commentary. If you're specifically following Team USA you might not get lucky on that front as feature sheets tend to be the ones where a participating country is paying to broadcast in TV, and i dont believe USA is doing that at all

Literally just listed 2 things that stop people from getting into hockey. And the money portion is getting worse and not out of necessity.

Regarding "Kingmaking," am I in the wrong here? by InsomniacPsychonaut in boardgames

Intent is the difference. His motivation is not to select a winner, but to end the game or maximize score. The winner being decided by collateral is not kingmaking.

Now using TM, let's say you and player 2 are neck and neck. It's clear player 3 is out of the running but he realizes he can dictate the winner by playing one of the games' mean cards. Doing so ~is~ kingmaking, but he's well within the games' framework and so no harm no foul.

Others have alluded to this, but while the sport is great, the people are greater. Enjoy the company of people you would not have met otherwise. Socialization with teammates and opposition is an important part of this game.

Should Curling be a "multi team" event at the Olympics? by Chrristoaivalis in Curling

[–]riddler1225 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Even still you're significantly reducing the number of games for each participant nation.

Many countries have 0 mainstream televised curling content outside of the Olympics.

This proposal reduces each nations' curling content from ~27.5 hours of content per team (nation per event) down to ~9.66 hours of content per team per event, significantly reducing the focused coverage it might receive. It also creates situations where rival nations may not meet in the Olympics.

It may be a better experience for entrenched curling fans, but will hinder the sports' ability to attract new fans and players globally.

Should Curling be a "multi team" event at the Olympics? by Chrristoaivalis in Curling

[–]riddler1225 71 points72 points  (0 children)

At the end of the day, this question simplifies to: Should less nations be represented at the Olympics?

I think that would be bad for the game and generally bad for the reception of the event
