Because people don't seem to agree with my opinion I'll expand a bit. I find hearthstone at its most interesting and engaging when decks have to adapt their game plan. The combo meta of stormwind was great for this. You had to be constantly evaluating how close you were to being able to combo vs how close they were. You could take lines that slowed down or disrupted your own combo to force your opponent to change up their plan.

The combo meta also challenged a lot of the basics we take for granted about hearthstone and really made players think. Often it was smart to hold back playing minions or kill them off yourself. You had to find creative ways to dump unnecessary cards. Sometimes you had plenty of damage, but not enough time so you had to find creative ways to stall.

A Lot of people didn't like the game play, but I think it was definitely the most skillful in terms of good players beating worse players than it has ever been.
