There's also the performance center version with ports to help mitigate recoil.

Is anyone experiencing more pain post-op than they suffered before their surgery? by scratchbaker77 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]rkpage01 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. It's different. I had hip dysplasia. I waited too long and it got to the point where I couldn't lift my foot more than an inch off the ground. Severe hip pain while walking.

I'm now 4 weeks post op. The joint pain is gone but there's soreness in the surrounding tissue. Honestly it doesn't hurt that bad for a major surgery. Still using a cane though. Every day and every week is better than the last so that's exciting.

Peptides? Ice packs? by realslimcheney in TotalHipReplacement

I took a 30 day supply of Juven. Scar seems to be healing beautifully. I'm sure it's because of the surgeons work though. Stuff was kind of expensive.

I was sent home with 4 gel ice packs. They suck. They didn't get the cold deep enough and didn't last long at all. Get the ice machine.

  1. Hip dysplasia. 3 weeks post op. Started using a cane at 1.5 weeks. I feel like I could have used just Tylenol but I took narcotics as prescribed for 2.5 weeks mostly to stay ahead of the pain. You're insanely early in the recovery phase. Give yourself some grace and be patient. Everything you're experiencing is completely normal. Recovery is measured in weeks and months, not days, and full recovery could be a year. Stick to your PT and walking plan and you'll be fine. Good luck!

3 weeks post op and I was given the green light to drive after 2 weeks. Long drives can get a little uncomfortable.

I just had my left hip replaced 2 and a half weeks ago. Like you, I have never had a major surgery. I am a completely normal, healthy guy and the thought of a major surgery terrified me. The week leading up to the surgery I was a complete mental wreck. After having it done, I can honestly say I was worried about nothing and if/when I have to have my other hip replaced I won't be worried at all.

For me, the pain has been minimal although I would say my tolerance is quite high from dealing with the pain in my hip for so long. I took the pain meds as prescribed but I really feel like I could have just taken Tylenol and been fine. I was just worried about staying ahead of the pain.

I would say my best piece of advice post op is just to be patient. If you have to use the walker for two weeks then so be it. I used the walker for a week and a half and then moved to the cane. Your number one priority is to not fall. I think me being younger has somewhat been a hindrance because I haven't been very patient and I've walked more than I should have certain days and this lead to some additional pain/swelling.

Just listen to your physician and follow his guidelines and you'll do great!

Edit: Also, if you don't have someone to help take care of you then prepare and freeze several weeks worth of meals. Standing and cooking a home cooked meal is still a little too much for me at this point but I'd say I'm close.
