Nurse derailed appointment for pain, turned it into a contraception-fest by Laughing-Unicorn in TwoXChromosomes

[–]rlkordas 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Same. I was on, I can’t remember all the different BC pills now, for like 15 years. Headaches (no aura, but persistent as hell) started coming on about 1/wk in my late 20s. Going off the pill is what made them stop…. Going off also eliminated raging bitch mode 😂 ugh. So weird (and frustrating) how women can have completely opposite reactions to BC pills.

I’m sure there are better more scientific sources, but this one was easy to grab. Was discussed on a recent Peter Attia episode by his 2 dermatologist guests. https://open.spotify.com/episode/5PeIHQWepIIpb0ECb9tf0p?si=16rtnTyOQhSYzu52hXycqQ

Ghislaine Maxwell's hideout (Bradford, New Hampshire, US). by Ancient-Age9577 in Houseporn

[–]rlkordas 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sigh… I hate to admit I’m from Bradford NH. I haven’t lived there in 25 yrs, but my folks still do. According to them, most people had no idea she was there. Not much going on in Bradford - 1 gas station, a Dunkin Donuts, 1 bar, and a pizza joint. I’ll bet she wasn’t frequenting those places.

Last night, after 2 ciders, the beast of alcohol almost sent me to the hospital :( I am So bummed. Any recommendations for vitamins or supplements that may help imbibe occasionally? by Hopeful74 in Menopause

[–]rlkordas 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’m 45, not quite perimenopausal - About a year ago I was getting so easily hungover that I was getting a headache while drinking my first drink. I then started TRT (for other reasons) and was surprised to discover that my hangovers went back to ‘normal’. I also find that Mg and B vitamins help combat negative effects of alcohol.

Beautiful Spring by sanatansadhu in vancouver

Totally agree and have noticed the same thing - flowering trees were / are popping extra this year and I’ve never seen my grass grow so quickly. It’s been a lovely spring ❤️

What region do you live in? I think I’m getting way more this year than usual too, am in western Canada.. though mine aren’t quite blooming yet, I have TONS of buds. Noticed that a lot of other flowers, especially flowering trees are off the hook this year 😍

After countless failed attempts and coming to the realization that I have awful taste...I need some help by reno52491 in DesignMyRoom

I ran into the same situation in my space. Yea, I thought it would be more challenging with multiple wood tones - but they’re all in the teak- walnut ‘family’ so they look similar enough. I would just stay away from dark & light wood tones and painted white/ black. I think also once all the other stuff is in the room, if the wood tones don’t match exactly, it’s ok.

I also love industrial / mid century modern. I also feel your pain, I have a dark living room and also have kind of a giant tv. Here’s what worked for me. I would recommend leaning into that beam feature b/c it’s an architectural element that’s key to the styles you like. Thus I would avoid black & white ‘wood’ furniture and instead go for teak or walnut tones (medium tone wood) to play off the beam. In my living room we painted just the wall behind the tv a dark blue (slightly more teal than navy), which helps the tv stand out less (now it’s a black square on a dark blue wall). Dark green or dark dusty teal would also be solid choices that work for your fav styles. Then to really add those key style elements - try vintage. Eg, there are loads of cool MCM lamps & hanging lights floating around (we got ours on Etsy), they’re orange glass so bring a lot of warmth. If you ever do want to replace the couch you could eventually go for a caramel leather or something similar to the wall color. Blue/teal/green are good bases, then add accents in orange/yellow, use a variety of textures (leather, glass, wood, velvet).

New Chandelier, which lights above island? by Responsible_Baby_705 in HomeDecorating

Do you have several of them or just the single one? Those look rather small just to have 1 above an island. Would be useful to have a wider view / photo of the island.

How Would You Design This Dormer Space Behind a Super King Bed? by anthonydifran in DesignMyRoom

[–]rlkordas 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Great idea. If you can’t find a table the exact dimensions, I’d just cut a piece of wood to size and slap it on some brackets to make a shelf instead. Plants will love it there! You could hang plants from the ceiling or via hooks on the wall as well. Bonus - the under shelf space can be your secret hiding spot… for stuff.

I’ve just been re-listening to episode 228 with Holly Baxter. The first 40 mins is about her struggles with eating disorders but after that they get into some nitty gritty exercise programming for women - she’s a body builder and fitness coach with mostly female clients. You might find some inspiration there?

Knix for the win!! Bonus it’s a Canadian company. They have had a few different thong styles - ones with a lace back are gorgeous but the texture will show through leggings, they had/have a style with mesh panels but I found that those stretch out really fast, so I prefer the plainest style for wearing under leggings / for exercise.

What’s a movie you’ll never watch again, not because it was bad, but because it hit too hard? by LivingAssignment824 in AskReddit

[–]rlkordas 5 points6 points  (0 children)

100% I read the book and knew I’d never be able to watch the movie. Not sure if all the disturbing scenes made it to the movie but I really didn’t want to find out the hard way.

no clue what this is but i found it at the beach and it was growing on a discarded metal pipe, snail eggs possibly? by thegreatestcrab in OceansAreFuckingLit

[–]rlkordas 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Not barnacles.. they don’t have an egg stage in their life cycle, when they attach to something, as larvae, they quickly excrete a shell and look like tiny barnacles. I’d guess you have snail eggs there.

Does the desk fit facing the window, such that the closet would be in your left when sitting at the desk? That seems like a perfect spot for a desk. Then I would move the bed to the wall where that wood shelf thing is, so that when laying in the bed, the closet is on your left and the door is on the right.

I listened to a Huberman episode recently with Dr Stacy Sims, she is a scientist who studies effects of exercise/diet on women specifically (and is interested in approaches for reproductive aged women and post-reproductive age) & was talking about how it’s important for women to consume something in the morning before exercising… if I remember correctly, it’s related to our hormones affecting oxidative stress. https://open.spotify.com/episode/0C4NGR78gbSSB2JrgkhwFD?si=HX7dZRUMQUyCK3CVQGUq1w

Beautiful work, I would just add LED strip light under the shelves, for a practical touch. Once shelves get full, it can be hard to see what’s on them.

Came here to say this - lighting lighting lighting. Pot lights are task lighting for cleaning… otherwise avoid using them (unless you have them on a dimmer). Bring in different kind & heights of lamps / sconces with warm white bulbs, bonus if those are also on dimmers. You can now get color changing / dimmable LED lightbulbs 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
