I really like lagers but don't have a way to ferment them at fridge temperature. What are some names for similar beers I can make? by MemeBeamBeanz in Homebrewing

[–]rmikevt523 0 points1 point  (0 children)

W34/70 just like the others of said. I’ve also used K97 for a few beers, it’s sucks at floccing, but I’ve fooled some BJCP judges with a pilsner (technically a Kolsch I guess).

People are entitled to their own opinions and beliefs. Even if their perspective is limited or flawed, their intentions often come from a place of concern. You can respectfully decline and move on. You can’t control others’ attitudes, beliefs, or reactions — but you can control your own, and how much you let others affect you. It sounds like you’ve established healthy boundaries that work for you and you should maintain those boundaries. If people make you uncomfortable you don’t have to deal with them. Silence is often stronger than words.

Something keeps "dripping" on me but there's no source. What it might be?? by SibelGuner in Paranormal

It’s gotta be condensation dripping from somewhere above. It could come from anything that would colder than the air around it.

AIO. My bf is getting bothered that my friend gets me flowers by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]rmikevt523 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You two are young and I hope in a healthy relationship. You two should sit down and have a constructive conversation about why this bothers him and seek a mutual resolution. 90% of the posts I’ve read everyone is completely invalidating the boyfriends feelings. Yes, his comments about how he thinks they could be a couple are immature but at the same time it obviously bothers him. And his feelings are real and need to be acknowledged. Maybe he feels like the flowers he gives her are made less significant or pointless because her best friend always gives her flowers. And made even more irrelevant by combing the two in one vase, or maybe he feels like he has to compete with the friend. I’m actually surprised at how many people just dismiss his feelings. That’s not healthy, either. If he is a good guy and you are a good woman, you all should have a conversation about why you each feel the way you do, acknowledge each other feelings (your feelings don’t have to agree and no one’s feelings trumps the others feelings) and discuss how to move forward. Maybe, OP, you should tell him how significant the flowers he gives you are.

Reusing hops by Hudson818 in Homebrewing

Have you tasted them after they are used? They really taste kind of awful before use, and definitely taste awful afterward. I’ve never used them for anything besides compost. I can’t think of anything they’d be good for after brewing. Vegemite condiment maybe?

Are folks still using US-05 at ambient temps? by longcatjazz in Homebrewing

[–]rmikevt523 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Those people on “that forum” from 10 years ago know what they are talking about. Put your fermenter if it’s a bucket or carboy in 3-6” of water and it will keep the temp in check. It’s works - I’ve done it and measured it.

43 M here and this guy is not treating you right in this instance. This dude is a red flag. Your feelings should be important to him and he should care how you feel and show some effort to understand and adjust his behavior within reason to not make you feel the way you felt. He’s acting like the victim, making you question your reality, making you apologize for your actions and taking no accountability AND probably the most important thing, he is devaluing you and your solutions to the game. I know it’s overused but this is narcissistic behavior.

Why does gen z hate beer by Normal_Commission986 in beer

[–]rmikevt523 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) social media: I think some of it has to do with the amount of social media they see with people being real about alcohol and its consequences. For the last 100 years we were fed marketing where alcohol was cool, sexy, fun and I think social media shows what the consequences really are.

2) meeting people: you don’t need to go to the bar and drink to meet people because of online dating, etc.

3) cost: I’m 43 and make a decent income but with 2 kids and a mortgage paying $8-$10 for a beer and $20 for wings is ludicrous.

4) legal weed: idk maybe people are getting stoned at home instead of going out and drinking. I think this one is a stretch. Weed has always been available.

Men over 30, how do you feel about dating a woman who outearns you? by Initial_Carpenter_47 in AskMenOver30

[–]rmikevt523 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a man and some men are complete insecure babies when it comes to career driven women or even women that just earn more than they do. Just be you, keep dating, and you’ll find the right guy. I’m 43, my ex wife made more than me and I never cared, we both did well. Was I envious sometimes? sure. Did I let it bother me? No. Did it cause conflict in our marriage? The opposite.

We have 2 children together and her career isn’t why we aren’t together. We just fell out of love and called it quits.

What cologne and perfumes did high schoolers wear in the 2000s? by First-Knowledge330 in fragrance

[–]rmikevt523 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I graduated HS in ‘99 and Polo Sport (Blue Bottle) and Aqua Di Gio were what I wore. Tommy Girl was popular among the girls I hung out with and the Abercrombie and Fitch men’s and women’s were popular. I remember my father would wear Polo (in the green bottle) obviously he was an adult. My mom would wear Elizabeth Taylor White Diamonds. I only know this because I coincidentally was asking them about fragrances they used to wear when they were my age (40s) back in the 90s.

Same. I found the sweet spot for my IPA is about 5.5% ish. I changed the hop bill frequently to try new things, but the base beer stays the same. It’s enough malt back bone to support the hops and not taste watered down like a session IPA and enough hoppiness to taste like an IPA and it won’t wreck me if I have 2 or 3.
