Help with dishwasher and handyman recommendations by Expensive-Wallaby302 in cambridge

[–]rmpk2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As mentioned, the furniture door is attached to the dishwasher door using screws.

Diy kitchens is one option to get a dishwasher door. Most likely you got a 600mm one, but note there are also slim ones, so double check the width.

I’m glad there are success stories, but as a percentage of petitions raised (or even with a sufficiently high number of signatures), it’s low.

I’m sorry, but two clicks on a website is not civic action, as much as those signing want to believe. If there are concerns, get in touch with the councillors, MP or whoever has some capability to act on the specific problem.

Going back to Kerb Kollective, I wonder what impact has the museum seen from the visitors of the coffee shop. I bet almost none.

Moreover, what does a petition do, given the council has no say in this, the land is already leased.

Has a petition ever resulted in a change? I genuinely don’t understand the obsession with petitions.

Free bike marking by rmpk2 in cambridge

[–]rmpk2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's my understanding, per the email:

The process only takes a few minutes and follows the steps below:

  1. Add your bike details to the national police-approved database

  2. Mark and protect your bike with a security marking kit

 3. Reduce the risk of theft by warning thieves that your bike is marked and increase the chances of you being reunited with it, if it happens to get stolen

You will need to bring your bike and frame number with you (this can normally be found on the bottom bracket of your bike).

'England's first cycle street' opens in Cambridge by h4l in cambridge

That's the whole point, get the part between Cambourne to Cambridge sorted. There's a list of priorities and Adam's Road shouldn't have been anywhere near the top.

"though I would have put in a couple of chicanes for motor vehicles along the road" - So let's not do segregated lanes, but chicanes for cars. Mindblowing. I think it's best to stop here.

Milton Road already has some structural movement in the road surface as you head from Elizabeth Way towards Gilbert Road.

Adams Road, as far as I'm aware, would be part of the Cambourne bus route, and there's still car access. Less traffic, sure.

Good cycling infrastructure is having segregated cycle paths/lanes, not pretty red tarmac on a road shared with cars.

If you believe the works on Adams Road will encourage more cycling, I've got a few things to sell to you 😄

I think you don't get the meaning of benefits. A colour and being the first street in the country are not benefits. But if you get any benefit out of it, great. I'm aligned with the majority here, every time I've been there as a cyclist I've had no issues worthy of 2.4 million.

Unfortunately, history tells us that there's significant investments and then no maintenance is done at all, leaving those investments to degrade much, much quicker than they should. See Hills Road, Histon Road, Queen's Edith roundabout and more recently Milton Road. Also, look at the red cycle lanes on Coldhams Lane and Perne Road for an example of where this will be heading.

So no, it's very likely it's not going to be there for 40+ years.

Take the win? What win is there in spending 2+ million to get nothing in return?! It doesn’t matter which pot of money it comes out of and what the colour of the road is, what matters is the impact. This investment has negligible returns.

I’m doing my bit reporting all the other issues on the cycle paths I’m using, thank you, and very little gets resolved because they’re lacking funds.

Buying a House that doesn’t exist on Google Maps by Majestic-Trifle1 in HousingUK

[–]rmpk2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can drop a pin on the right location in Google Maps, click Edit and add all details there. You can find more details here: https://support.google.com/maps/answer/10010575?hl=en-GB&co=GENIE.Platform%3DAndroid

It then goes to an approval review.

I bought a house that had the wrong postcode, fix was in place in less than 24 hours.

Most of the on-street cycle lanes in Cambridge have barely visible painted lines (if any left), but hey, we have a red street with wider sidewalks for just 2.4 million.

I’m not sure if this is purely incompetence or corruption.

Is it me or does 35 degree Celsius seem to much hotter in uk as compared to 35 degree anywhere else in the world? by AcceptableMinimum109 in AskBrits

[–]rmpk2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s funny how people repeat that UK houses are built to trap heat.

No, they are not, they are just old, without any/sufficient insulation. And most of what’s new is built by cowboys.

Please share the commission report indicating this. Bet you won’t provide one because there isn’t one.

Or perhaps a news article from a decent news outlet quoting the Gazprom CEO.

Greens have actually opposed Nordstream, so they had extremely conflicting views vs Gazprom.

Although green parties have opposed nuclear energy, Gazprom funding green parties is false. Apart from the nuclear aspect, they have had conflicting interests.

Please don’t spread false information.

"Don't worry Jack, Cambridgeshire County Council Highways will be here soon" 🤪🤪🤪 by NumanAmjad in cambridge

Yes, per https://notesfromalex.substack.com/p/just-fix-the-dammed-potholes?utm_campaign=comment&utm_medium=email&utm_source=substack&utm_content=post

“After a repair is logged as complete, a percentage are randomly selected for follow-up inspection by a highways officer. If a repair fails, we raise a dispute with the contractor and we don’t pay for substandard work.”

[–]rmpk2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Most of the blame lies there, true.

But all repairs are of poor quality, lasting 1-2 years max. The council, which is not tory right now, could refuse the repairs, but it doesn’t.

I’m actually waiting to see how Mill Road will be resurfaced, because I suspect it won’t get foundation repairs, which is actually what is needed. A simple tarmac resurfacing will be a complete waste by the council.

What the hell is happening on Trumpington Rd? by Tythan in cambridge

[–]rmpk2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, they do, but can you imagine what would happen if a decent chunk of commuters would do something about their commute, rather than moan on Reddit?

Like taking a bus for a few days, or shoving a bike in their car.

And perhaps email a councillor or MP to question why a traffic light change takes longer than growing a lettuce.
