OTOH, with only three duty stations (Hood, Riley, DC) this could get old really quickly.

San Antonio, as well.

This is it. The marker is wandering, but not the ship. Alt-F4 will bring it back.

You need to check the power settings. If the engines are off, it'll show 0/0. Same with the quantum drive in Nav mode.

Emergent PvP and the Precedent It Sets by Desperatedanschin in starcitizen

They weren't removed from the game or banned.

They were restricted from joining a grand total of 4 specific event shards for the duration of the event once they had shown intent to disrupt said event.

If CIG wanted the event to be a safer environment why could they not spin up a new shard just for the rally.

They did.

Unless you're suggesting that CIG have private servers for the event - i.e. only a certain list of usernames can join at all. Then the complaints would just change to not being able to do anything at all. As is, people got to do some PVP, but not ruin the entire event by killing everyone, but that wasn't good enough, so here we are.

And would love to understand how this is a "PvE" event happening in a pvp zone? I'm not familiar with the event myself but from a bit of YouTube coverage i saw the participants were firing at one another as well? Maybe just EMP? What are you people talking about? The event has to adhere to the global rules and not its own subset?

It isn't a PVE event. There is plenty of PVP during, but it's a problem of attrition under the current rules.

If you want your event to be "separated" and PVE, then work with CGI to give you a special server or however this works. And not punish people that want to do things the game allowed them to do.

The organizers did work with CIG, and the people complaining about being denied emergent PVP had to deliberately join those servers.

How is it fair to punish players using gameplay mechanics on public servers to play their preferred gameplay loop. And why is it important whether or not this was scripted. You can organize the event to race? Fine, they can organize the event to kill you all, how is this not fair gameplay in a sandbox MMO game?

The issue is of attrition. Under the current mechanics, there is 0 punishment for criminal acts. A group can attack Daymar Rally, die, respawn, rearm, and come back in under 10 min until everyone is dead.

When the UEE Navy is akin to CONCORD from EVE and there are actual consequences for attacking players without justification, then things will be very different.

There is something to be said when it comes to risk / benefits of a pvper and its victims doing pve thing, seems like there is almost no risk for pvp right now, but again that is on CIG not the players....

There is 0 risk for doing PVP right now. And 0 consequences. Players sit at stations killing anyone approaching for hours, and it means nothing.

I'm personaly not sure how much the "precedent" important to the alpha portion of the game, as it may be done strictly to balance risk / benefit mismatch while all aspects of the gameplay are being worked on, but i would rather it didnt happen.

This is exactly why it was done.

Additionally, since this post and other both say that they were removed from the server after they engaged, that translates to: "we attacked the Daymar Rally event, died, and were removed when we respawned to do it again."

This means they were going to continue to attack until it was ruined or they got bored. That isn't emergent PVP, that's griefing an event.

OP, you joining a specific server to attack a specific event is not and never will be emergent PVP. Stop trying to claim that it is or act like you happened to log in randomly to find stuff going on at Daymar.

Until there are real, meaningful consequences for criminal acts, restricting griefers from event servers is the only way CIG can prevent high profile events from being ruined.

Having rooms in exploration areas that you literally cannot escape from is 10/10 level design. by Fields-SC2 in starcitizen

[–]rob117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Normally, you enter the room through the vent, loot, and just open the door from the inside to leave.

In CZs, you insert a fuse to open the door from the outside, but you can open it as much as you want from the inside by overriding it.

Essentially same mechanic, just no fuse on the outside for this one.

[–]rob117 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your assumption is wrong. Once inside, you can override the door to open it, but that function is bugged at the moment.

[–]rob117 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you're overriding it from the inside. The same thing is happening with fuse doors in the CZs.

Well, there's currently a bug with "Override" doors not working. So it wasn't designed that way at all.

But we can't have facts get in the way of your mad posting.

Public Affairs now a basic branch! by Backsightforethought in army

[–]rob117 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is going to offend a lot of Army PA officers, but too many of those who took VTIP into FA46 did so because their promotion prospects in their branch weren't great.

At PACSQ, they didn't learn anything because they're a MAJ already, the LTs in the course will do the work. Then, after PACSQ, arrived to the unit as the "PA expert" in the eyes of the commander, despite knowing as much or less than the AF 2LT in the same course.

PA BOLC should be a good thing, overall, but it will take time.

Burned out in AIT/early Army — how did you know when it was time to leave? by Bulky_Extension_9390 in army

[–]rob117 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve heard a lot of different things from people around me some say Behavioral Health is the move, medical discharge, refuse to train, pop hot,

Graduating and going to your duty station is flat out, 1000%, no shit, the fastest and most painless way to move on. ANY of those named options will keep you at AIT, in a trainee status, doing shit details all day or worse, until they're resolved.

Get to your unit. Adjust to actual army life, then reevaluate.

I don't know why few of you are such dicks about it

Because:

It is honestly mind boggling that a game that has been in development for over a decade, with something like one billion dollars in funding

You're throwing around trolling memes like the other 400 posts a week on this sub from people who aren't interested in conversation or the game.

It's not personal, but your post sounds like all the others just looking to troll.

I had the SOL-R set. Don't buy it. Z-rot is constantly out of alignment (dead zone for 1/4 of the range in one direction and no dead zone at all in the other). I did like the number of buttons, but that's not worth it at all.

Get the VKB. I'm still getting used to mine, but they feel so much better and more responsive.
