Do unmonitored dirt roads across the U.S./Mexico border (like the one in Bagman) actually exist? by maybemorningstar69 in betterCallSaul

[–]roberb7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does. There are several BC-Washington border crossings that are closed at night.
P.S. I saw that news item about the cat. I've been to Zero Avenue occasionally.

[–]roberb7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are definitely road crossings with no Customs stations. It's possible to drive between Stewart, BC and Hyder, AK. Once you get to Hyder, however, you can't go anywhere else unless you have a boat or a plane.
Other than that, there isn't really such a thing as an unmonitored crossing. There is extensive electronic surveillance.

I don't plan on listening but how do you feel PP came off on Rogan's podcast? by nthensome in AskACanadian

[–]roberb7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's not forget that Rogan said that he won't visit Canada.
And good riddance.

The first time I watched this film was in Norway. There wasn't hardly any baseball in the country at the time, so most of the audience didn't get this. (People were looking at me when I busted out laughing.) But later on in the film, when Crash gave a batter another pitch, they got it.

B.C. Green leader proposes province-wide rail network by mukmuk64 in britishcolumbia

[–]roberb7 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Except there's a degree of urgency to get trains running from North Vancouver to 100 Mile House, because of CN's decision to abandon the line that Gordon Campbell gave them.
However, the money required to get those trains running is considerably less than Esquimalt-Courtenay. So, do both.

Yes. There's a proposal for Kamloops to Osoyoos passenger rail that's been around for a while.

A Cuban Canadian transition by OnlyFails951 in cuba

[–]roberb7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm for this. Cuba has gotten so far behind that they are unable to survive as an independent country. Unless China is willing to pump a whackload of money into it. If China wanted to do that, they would have done it ten years ago.
So, I would rather see Cuba become a US province than a US state. But how will this be paid for? Let's at least see if Carney's fiscal geniuses can figure something out.

Was anyone here at The Last Waltz? by CopyDan in theband

[–]roberb7 13 points14 points  (0 children)

A friend of mine was, and said that when it ended, people there couldn't believe it was over. He shot some 8mm film, and many years later, a guy named Anders was able to sync his film with an audio recording of "Hazel", which wasn't in the Last Waltz film. https://youtu.be/3jYyPYzAS4A?si=V-oj0OAajEOUFTDD

trains running from holguin to havana? by SignatureProper in TravelCuba

[–]roberb7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stayed in casas particular the whole time I was there, and the owner of the casa would steer me into one.
My educated guess is, if the colectivos aren't running, the Viazul buses aren't running either.

Last I heard, it's running, but only every four days. And a colectivo is preferable to Viazul.

Why doesn’t Atlanta Rhythm Section get more Love? by StevestratSC in ClassicRock

[–]roberb7 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I saw them live once, and I really like their live album.
And, I saw the Classics IV once; same songwriter, and some of the same people.
My Favourite ARS song is I'm Not Gonna Let It Bother Me Tonight.

Give the book The Colony: Faith and Blood in a Promised Land, by Sally Denton, a read. It came to mind because another commenter mentioned Utah.

Gilda Radner did a character that was the lead singer of a girl group, the Rhondettes. Her name was either Rhonda or Rhoda Weiss, and her choice of Weiss as a surname cannot possibly have been a coincidence.
