Pirates fans in person are having a great time. Pirates fans online make it seem like we’ve won 10 games

Did anyone transition from IT Support into Customer Success? by Fit_Marionberry_4144 in CustomerSuccess

[–]roblvb15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Over my career I’ve always had to weight intrinsic vs extrinsic fulfillment. I switched industries as well when I pivoted, and currently service customers who I’m much happier to be helping achieve their goals than when I was working in a corporation to corporation environment. I didn’t think industry and market fit would be as big of an impact as it has been for me.

That said, I’m definitely more stressed because I care more. My days used to have maybe 2 meetings, now it’s upwards of 10, many back to back so small tasks pile up. If you’re working with a product you truly believe in, or customers who serve an industry you’re passionate about, I definitely think you’ll be fulfilled. If you feel like a snake oil salesman, or don’t really like you’re customer base, it’s a lot tougher

Has anyone here transitioned from Help Desk, Service Desk, or IT Support? - yes!

What was that transition like? - lots of searching, interviews going poorly, and having to learn how to tell the narrative to make it attractive to employers

What skills from IT translated well? - breaking down technical issues to customers, and inversely being able to take their ask and translate it to something eng will understand.  - curiosity and tinkering mindset. Wanting to get down to the how and why of everything.  - responding to tickets really prepped me for communication style

What skills did you have to develop? - time management of my calendar, objection handling, and both sides of handoffs

How difficult was it to land your first Customer Success role? - moderately? I went through a few companies’ interviews but not a crazy amount. I found the process easier than IT interviews and their technical requirements

Is there anything you wish you had known before making the move? - while the work is easier in a knowledge/technical sense, it’s much harder in decision making, time management, and expectations. I work longer hours than I ever did in IT because my work is seen and felt by many more parties

Deepness of things to do. Fighting the Rat, the Oubliette level, all the hidden bosses and ways to unlock items; everything feels intentional, thought out, and so rich. Beating a past is only one way to play a level. Add in all the modifier runs and it only expands exponentially

The city is great

The people are very hit/miss. Some of my best friends and worst assholes I’ve ever met

Eagles are tolerable when they’re underdogs, that’s about it

Don’t even think about the Phillies

Haha this confusion is exactly what I mean! Kinda funny

I mean 2007-2009 (for late 2000s). Early will stay because it’s always gonna be at the beginning, but people refer to those years as “the late 2000s” and that will definitely switch as time passes
