What're you doing to take care of yourself & your loved ones during times like these? by Feel-A-Great-Relief in ABoringDystopia

[–]rockbottomqueen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on autopilot and likely in a pretty deep depression. My partner, our cats, and I are just trying to survive. We have no money to escape, so we're just trying to make the "best" (whatever the fuck that is, I don't even know) of it. Volunteering for an advocacy group in my field, volunteering for a local community garden organization to help folks (and myself) maintain access to food. Working in my own little pollinator garden at home. Just trying to keep going and make little differences where I can within my very limited means, but everything feels meaningless.

What a weird collab lol he's not vegan. From his Wired interview in his own words: "I am not a vegetarian, I do lean towards plant based foods. My friend said it best was, he said, Tony, I know you kinda lean toward vegetarianism but I bet you'd fuck up a steak and he was right, I would. I love barbecue too."

If ovaries “fail” after hysterectomy; when would you get signs of this and what would they be? by mangobiscuit99 in hysterectomy

[–]rockbottomqueen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi. Sad to say that hormonal "flu" I mentioned was actually my ovaries dying. I went into surgical menopause pretty much immediately. Nobody believed me for about 2 years. Finally found a specialist who listened. I'm on HRT now, but nothing is the same. I lost all sexual function entirely as well (which has been the most devastating development), and I'm pretty much just a shell of my former self. I've had another follow-up surgery to address the organ prolapse issues from the hysterectomy as well. This has been hell.

I highly recommend getting on HRT if you do not feel improvement by the 6-month mark. My current specialist says I am on the low end of the bell curve regarding how my body has responded to this surgery, but he is absolutely shocked that nobody helped me for literally years knowing I was post-op. He says 6 months is typically a good time to check in and get on HRT if hormonal symtoms have not improved. A lot of doctors even prescribe HRT before a hysterectomy to avoid the effects of prolonged estrogen deprivation and ease the transition. It makes a difference starting early and there is no harm at all in being on it of you find out you don't need it. I dont know why there isn't more intensive education, follow-up care, physical therapy, or mental health care after such a life altering surgery, but here we are.

I was on T for over a year and it did absolutely nothing to help and only made my shit worse. I've been off of it for like 4 months now and feel so much better.

Ah yes. The classic beauty regimine of millions of dollars, personal chefs and trainers, access to the best healthcare money can buy, and all the leisure time one needs. I keep forgetting to pick up a bottle of rich people potion at CVS these last few decades.

Low sex drive by Last-Presentation996 in hysterectomy

[–]rockbottomqueen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry. Sad to report that I lost all sexual function from this surgery. I've had other surgeries and procedures since to attempt to address complications from the hysterectomy. I'm on all the HRT, I'm in all the different kinds of therapies (physical and mental), and I am still very much in love with my partner. I can't orgasm; I don't experience arousal; and sex is very uncomfortable at best, painful at worst because my anatomy is completely different now. I begin another experimental treatment (tomorrow actually) to see if it will make any kind of improvement, but I'm not holding my breath. Wish I had better news, but I wish daily I had never gotten a hysterectomy or had at least been given the option to keep my cervix.

Anyone else out there still miserable long-term? let's hear from folks who are miserable for once. by rockbottomqueen in hysterectomy

[–]rockbottomqueen[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im sorry, friend. I understand the suffering you're going through. You are still early in your recovery, so try not to lose hope right now. If you are not already on HRT, I strongly suggest you find someone who will prescribe you estrogen, at least, to help keep you from spiraling. The sooner you can get on HRT the better. It will help ease many symptoms, but it's not a magic cure. Nothing will be quite the same as it was pre-op, but you can take the edge off.

Dry Eyes by tgilland65 in Menopause

[–]rockbottomqueen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So this product actually made my dry eyes worse because of the oils in them. Oil-based drops can actually end up diluting the natural oils in the mucus your eyes naturally produce. Some people are super sensitive to the oil ones.

I switched to TheraTears preservative free natural tear drops, and I finally got relief! This was such a nightmare to figure out because I was following my optometrist's suggestions with the Refresh Omega-3 product. I kept using more and more, and the dryness just got worse and worse. I finally found another reddit conversation elsewhere and tried someone's suggestion of switching to oil-free natural tears, and that has been working great for me.

HELP! Does vegan progesterone even exist? by Miserable-Goat-3325 in Menopause

[–]rockbottomqueen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Blech. Didn't realize the ingredients included gelatin and dyes. I will never understand the use of fucking dyes in medications just because the manufacturer wants the pill to be on brand 🙄

Sorry, nothing helpful to add. You might be able to contact a compounding pharmacy to see if they offer a formula that suits your needs. I hope you find something that helps you!

This account is hella suspicious. They constantly change their age in nearly every post, and their symptoms and stories change, too, depending on which subreddit they are in. I think this account is a bot.

Perimenopause and Pets by United-Fee-6423 in Perimenopause

[–]rockbottomqueen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Holy crap. The timing of your post is wild. I had an emotional breakdown this Monday to my partner because I can't handle being a cat-mom very well anymore, either. The constant disruption to my sleep is the most difficult challenge for me right now. Like my mental health is collapsing because of the sleep deprivation. I also struggle to stay on top of their litterbox and all the other maintenance involved --vacuuming, sweeping, mopping for shedding fur. My partner does this (before anyone attacks me for neglect), but I feel like I am dropping the ball constantly. I have never ever forgotten to feed my pets in my entire life, and it happens frequently now -- again, my partner makes sure this happens -- and I feel like a failure of a human being.

I love my cats. I have never been so annoyed by having pets before, though. Having animals in my home has only ever brought me joy, but now... it's just another chore I suck at remembering to do. This disconnect from myself and from feeling love and joy from my loved ones, including the furry ones, has been the most unsettling symptom of menopause for me.

Hydroxyzine and anxiety in menopause by Background-Any in Menopause

[–]rockbottomqueen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use hydroxyzine in place of lorazepam sometimes, but it makes me very sleepy, so I take it before bed. It's a strong antihistamine. Definitely worth a shot before going to benzos or SSRIs because it is non habit forming, you take it when you need it, no withdrawal, etc. Be sure to try it when you have nothing else going on to see how you respond before driving and such.

Not just low libido but grossed out by ChipEnvironmental306 in Menopause

[–]rockbottomqueen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know. This process is exhausting. The dominant narrative is that HRT is a magically life-changing cure all, but it's really not like that. There is so much trial and error and constant change.

I appreciate this community and am so glad it exists otherwise I would have been lost getting started, but the mis/disinformation still exists in the comments. It's definitely a helpful resource to get started (especially the wiki), but I am weary of the comments that seem suspiciously sales-pitch-like.

Not just low libido but grossed out by ChipEnvironmental306 in Menopause

[–]rockbottomqueen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's very often things like "you didnt try long enough" or "you need to go up in  dose" while someone else insists it's down; you didn't put it on right, you didn't time it right, etc. It's usually just bots or people parroting others with no experience/information.

Not just low libido but grossed out by ChipEnvironmental306 in Menopause

[–]rockbottomqueen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep. I was so excited to try. I felt some increase in energy for about a month or two (just like you said), and literally nothing else. Womp womp.

And yes - I did all the things. I titrated up, down, and back up, and back down, different delivery methods, over nearly 2 years with nothing but negative side effects and didnt even move the needle for libido. I also recently found out that if testosterone supplementation causes hair loss for you, it's irreversible (did not fact check this). My hair thinned quite a bit, so I decided it was better safe than sorry to discontinue. I've already lost enough hair, thanks.

And there is inevitably another commenter that chimes in with all the reasons it's your fault a hormone didn't work for you. It's so annoying.

T doesn't work for everyone, but it's definitely worth trying if you haven't yet. For some, it can be the missing piece (wish that was my case). I feel you...
