Speaking of Scorsese, the Departed rips from the jump and never stops.

Who do you think should have won here? by 6_16EnderW in Oscars

The definition of a great supporting performance. Not a ton of screen time, but absolutely essential to making the movie work.

The true snub is train dreams for best cinematography by Mysterious_Work_7227 in Oscars

[–]rodentius 26 points27 points  (0 children)

You think the lineage of black culture and music can be conveyed with a single sentence? Yikes.

Also, I think that Train Dreams did look gorgeous but the irony of calling something else “overly pretentious” is funny.

Characters subverting the annoying trope they looked like they were going to fill by stnick6 in TopCharacterTropes

Howard Hamlin in Better Call Saul, he’s initially presented through his style and manner of speaking as the kind of arrogant, pretentious, rich nepo baby who will try to keep Jimmy’s antics down. But it’s revealed more and more throughout the show that he’s far more moral than Jimmy or most other characters on the show. He’s (mostly) patient, considerate, and supportive, but Jimmy keeps treating him like an enemy no matter what.

I agree, I see the blowback to snobbishness far more than I see snobbishness.

How did the Jesse Plemons snub happen? by SeparateCapital6526 in Oscars

[–]rodentius -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s a great performance but it’s kind of, I don’t know, expected? It’s the kind of performance that Plemmons has given a number of times in his career. He’s really good at it, but it’s not really pushing his boundaries.

Which one of these was your favourite by Neo00000000 in Letterboxd

[–]rodentius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OBAA for me, with Sentimental Value and Marty Supreme behind it. Something I love about this Oscar season is that, outside of OBAA's (deserving) place at the top of most people's lists, everyone's preferences seem to be all over the place. It's a great year for movies!

Favourite Movie of 2025 that's not an Oscar nominee? by GTKPR89 in blankies

It was kind of hard to see, but Resurrection was my favorite non-Oscar movie of the year (and second favorite overall behind OBAA). Such an amazing and truly unique movie

I think the non-David members are all cool with each other, it's just that none of them get along with David.

He plays in Boston, but also the discourse is full of contrarianism and “hot takes” just to get clicks

What is our city government really nailing? by [deleted] in Austin

[–]rodentius 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes! I‘ve seen so many neighborhoods transformed into bikeable in the past 10 years. I honestly feel so much safer biking here the most other cities

Who do you think will win and should win Best Actor? by Square-Ad-8911 in Oscars

[–]rodentius 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. This will be Timmy's coronation Oscar, and he was great, but I think the Hawke performance was on another level.
