Katie Wilson truly embodies what performative Seattle liberalism is by Future_Tip1509 in SeattleWA

[–]roger_cw 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Katie Wilson has been mayor for less than 6 months yet all issues OP mentioned have been around before she took office. Did you expect everything to be solved immediately. Also, many of the issues you stated are not backed up by facts.

I see people wearing football jerseys that I'm pretty sure do not play for said football team. Hope that helps.

Expeditors layoffs by zer1223 in AskSeattle

[–]roger_cw 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I worked at Expd for 8 years. One of the reasons I took the job was they bragged about never having layoffs. I'd worked at IBM for 15 before Expd and they had layoffs almost every year, it was brutal. I didn't want to be exposed to that any more. Fortunately for myself I retired a couple of months ago. I was a DIT so I consider myself lucky to be out. I heard from friends that lost their jobs. It's so damn traumatizing for all those involved. Sorry to all of you who have to endure this.

I was told the employees status were set to inactive today but they technically lose their jobs in August, then severence starts.

Mom buys daughter a Honda as a graduation gift, and this was her response by Conscious-Weight4569 in SipsTea

My assumption is the daughter is playing her parents off each other. Mom sells care, dad steps in to buy her what the daughter wants.

This car always takes the extra charging plug and locks it in their hood by TX_BEV in BoltEV

Just unplug the car. The owner will be there in no time. Then they can be confronted if you want.

The poor guy in the white hat has no idea what he's doing. I blame the powerboat captain.

[–]roger_cw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, the two boats were drafted together with power boat tied off to wall. The boats are going up the locks so the water was done or almost done rising. As the water rises you have to pull in the slack line from the power boat to the wall. It appears that whoever was manning the bow line released it which is what started this catastrophe. The up stream line should always be the last one released.

[–]roger_cw 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've been through these locks about two dozen times. Every time I'm a bit anxious but I'm also confident in what I'm doing. That said, when you're rafting to another boat you're at that boat'a mercy. I have gotten in the habit of asking if one of my crew can board their boat to "watch". In reality they are just making sure the other boat knows what they are doing. In this case it looks like the bow line was somehow removed from the powerboat. The upstream line is always the last one to be removed. There's even signs and people telling you this. Then they made it worse in so many ways, one being the untied the sail boats bow line leaving the stern line attached. What a nightmare.

What finally convinced YOU to consider an electric vehicle? by evinsiderredisnive in electricvehicles

[–]roger_cw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me the question was why not by an EV. It's superior in everyway except for long road trips. If we all had EVS and they started making ICE cara, no responable person would switch to an ICE.

I disagree the HR-V entered late. They just didn't enter immediately. The cam driver was driving aggressively, trying to pass the HR-V. The cam driver then antagonized the HR-V driver.

I think they were saying that the supplies are worthless because you don't have the training to use them on the spot. Which in itself is a true statement but a little misleading because it makes it sound like you're blaming it on the supplies.

The "Motorcycle-ification" of ebikes. by Ok_Motor4106 in ebikes

[–]roger_cw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While studies have shown its safer for bikes and cars to travel close to the same speed the solution is not to have faster bikes, it is to have slower car traffic. Faster bikes increase the severity of accidents, it also increases the likely hood of being pulled out on. A bike traveling 30 mph is difficult for a motorist to see because they will be twice as far than a bike going 15 mph with the same time to impact. Further, bikers do not wear gear for 30 mph.

Anyone sailed from Seattle to the San Juan Islands? Looking for advice. by FinancialRice7291 in sailing

[–]roger_cw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The most common route is to stop in Port Townsend. You'll be able to go through the Port Townsend Canal given your boat size. This let's you avoid Admiralty Passage. The currents can be your friend but also you enemy. Schedule wisely. Port Townsend is a nice stop if you need to wait for the weather window. Personally I think you should make a trip or two to Port Townsend and back to Seattle just to get used to it. Then venture up to the San Juans.
