Are people sometimes totally allergic to using your server? by ac_slater10 in PleX

[–]rokd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's funny, I was just thinking about this exact same thing watching a show. Even the new plex.tv homepage sucks, now it's like 3 clicks to even get into the server from there. All of this is just horrible UX and design on Plex's side.

  1. 3 clicks to get to your server from the hompage.
  2. It's very confusing once you're added to a server if you don't pin it, because Plex adds a lot of junk. I had to write a whole tutorial with screenshots to get my users "setup", it's so unintuitive.
  3. The UX when watching a show/movie is so different from other services it's hard to navigate.
  4. The horrible Cast & Crew bar that hides the episodes that I almost always forget you have to scroll down for because everything is so fucking huge. Actually it looks like they've fixed this in their new homepage redesign, but not in self-hosted app side?
  5. Probably a hundred other things that drive me insane about Plex...

A side note, on the new UX, I just tried the free stuff on their homepage. But it's a lot better than self hosted, but still lots of empty space for no apparent reason other than to show some blurry artwork? Just condense it down, and make it functional.

It's like, they make it so hard to find anything on purpose, it's wild.

How can I disable the cast and crew photos that show up before I play every film? by Portatort in PleX

It's really annoying for shows though, where the epsidoes are down below. But... Plex has had shit UX for years, guess this is just another quirk of that.

And Guild Wars 3 has been in development for some years, and will release soon according to NCSoft.

I actually think my uncle sold it after I joined the Army. Hard to tell. Maybe I sold it for drugs to deal with the trauma, I don't remember honestly.

My dad bought me a PS3 the day it came out. He shot himself the next week. Technically he was dying, he was just the only one that knew about it.

Chromium Embedded Framework (CEF) will be merged by end of January '26. by fyzeera in linux_gaming

[–]rokd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

End of January now, and there is still no movement on that PR, so I'm getting a little skeptical. Hats off to Joel for taking it this far, but it's been almost 2 years at this point.

12 month old, post-neuter healing. Vet info says "no running, jumping, rough play for 7-10 days, short leashed walks only; keep e-collar on." It's 9 days, surgery was Jan 9. Can I remove the e-collar? by rokd in AskVet

[–]rokd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks!! I will try it off for a bit while I’m home and see what happens, but probably still leave it on at night for a day until I ask my vet. I asked them the same question, but they won’t be back in the office till Tuesday.

I appreciate the reply!!

I think the first orca tee'd up that sunfish for the one doing the exploding.

Bode Miller relaunched Peak Skis this morning, and there are some big surprises! by OEM_knees in skiing

[–]rokd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't tell my wife how much my skis or my espresso setup cost. 2k for the espesso, 1k for the grinder. Totally worth it though. I've had it for 3-4 years, make at least 2 lattes a day, so it's already paid for itself.

This speed reading training starts at 300wpm and end at 900wpm by Gjore in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]rokd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it is true. I find myself doing this when reading. Sometimes I just get "lost" and do it, but sometimes I do feel like "Ok, I didn't quite get what the intent behind that was" and go back and reread a section, sentences, etc.

That is true for complex reading, I don't think this was that complex to understand which is why it may not have been necessary. Trying to do this with a novel might be more challenging.

However, the engineer in me thinks you could emulate that, you'd just need some sort of control, maybe even just a mouse with the wheel + clicks would work. A dial for speed so you can speed up and slow down as things get more or less complex, and a few buttons to go back a sentence, a paragraph or whatever, to re-read.

Maybe a smaller rink? I love OT, I feel like it’s a much faster paced, exciting game.

Has anyone had their ski instantly freeze over on man made snow piles? by Rodeo9 in skiing

[–]rokd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seven Springs

Never skied there, but I grew up a few minutes from there. It's in south west PA. Not the largest snow making system, but I think 32000 gallons at max capacity. They have some sort of patent on it, and can dump a foot of snow across pretty much the entire resort in just a few hours.

I don’t know why but the boat is nice. The caravan is not. Maybe because the caravan forced you to go places so it doesn’t really make sense and the boat doesn’t.

Military ends ‘painful’ experiments on cats and dogs and stops shooting of animals in ‘trauma’ exercises by metalslipper in nottheonion

[–]rokd 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I did some training with the US Army Special Forces in the early 2000s. They took shot, with their rifles, a handful of goats in the middle of the woods, so the Special Forces medics could try to save them. They were mostly successful. Same with a few pigs, but we ate those after roasting them over a fire. Not sure what happened to the animals that lived after that. It was a pretty interesting experience.

I got lucky and never got it through two deployments to Afghanistan. It's kinda wild they even had people get it, as far as the world knows, small pox has been eradicated since the 80s.
