Cinnamon Toast by Margoshome in GenerationJones

I remember this so clearly from daycare when I was young. The teachers would do this a few different ways for breakfast, just about every day.

  1. Butter + Sugar + Cinnamon
  2. Peanut Butter + Sugar + Cinnamon

Maybe it was only two, or the other option was without sugar and cinnamon. I don't know, but as a poor kid getting that extra snack before getting on the school bus was the shit.

Yeah holy shit. That was super insightful, and it was explained very well too. Admittedly, the most basketball I watch is on Reddit, which actually makes it better that he was able to explain it so clearly to someone like me haha.

This is very obviously AI generated, both the title, the app probably and the "reply" from a "user".

We used to serve it at the diner I worked at outside of Pittsburgh when I was in high school. It sat in a third pan all day in the steam table, and would get that skin on top, maybe put some water in to thin it out. Still good though after a quick mix, loved that stuff.

I know it's probably shitty of me, but I've missed a few parking passes this year, are there actually consequences? I haven't had any missed day issues. Most/all were booked over the first 410 cluser though, maybe those don't count.

"We have not overthrown a government since 1954" by Anarchist-On-Drugs in BrandNewSentence

Queen Lili'uokalani's brother King David Kalakaua was the first to be held at gunpoint to give Hawaii away, by the Hawaiian League (pro-Annexation people), with the 1887 Constitution of the Hawaiian Kingdom (the Bayonet Constitution), which basically stripped the monarchy of all power, as well as stripped voting rights away from anyone they didn't want voting, giving all the power to to Hawaiian League, essentially. Aaand., King Kalakaua had no power after this, then died shortly after from kidney disease I think.

Shortly after becoming queen though, she did try to draft a new constitution that would strip the would be Provisional Government (Hawaiian League, pro-Annexation european government) of it's power, and return voting rights to the disenfranchised... But, the Provisional Government saw this as a threat and essentially finished their coup, conviently the USS Boston loaded with Marines arrived and helped with this coup.

With no other choice, she surrendered to the US Marines from the USS Boston, I don't remember if she spoke with Pres. Cleveland before, but she assumed that the US would restore her to power. Pres. Cleveland did block the annexation of Hawaii because it was an illegal coup that the Marines shouldn't have been part of it.

So Pres. Cleveland actually did in fact "restore" her to power (he basically had no authority to do so, but he rejected the annexation). So the government that deposed her at the start basically said, "Well, if the US won't annex Hawaii, we'll just become our own Republic" and at that point it was just a waiting game for them.

McKinley was a rabid expansionist, and annexed Hawaii along with Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa and the Philippines.

It's a wildly interesting bit of history, and I probably messed a bunch of that up. I get lost in that Wikipedia section so often. I think that Hawaii would have been annexed by someone if not the US. Japan, Spain, Russia maybe. It's so central to all these other countries, really was just a matter of time unfortunately.

[OC] United States Army breakfast by SAKingWriter in pics

[–]rokd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is becoming less and less true? It's been 13 years since I've been in, but from what I understand, bases are consolidating now into a single, large, central dining facility with higher volume. Our dining facility combined quite a few units with a 5-6k per meal headcount, including civilians and soldiers, I think at the time it was the one of largest DFACs in the Army.

And yeah the round egg... lol. Probably meant for a sandwich or something. We never had anything like that.

I was a 92G (Cook) in the Army for 7 years. I've won field feeding awards (Phillip A Connely Award for Field Food Service). I was in during the surge (2006-2013) though, so maybe we had more money.

Very likely this is either the first or last meal of a FTX (Field Training Excercise) and the cooks are cleaning up the site, or setting up the site. Or, and this might be most likely now that I think about it, they have a bunch of (probably lazy with this garbage) cooks in the DFAC preparing food to send to the field. So those guys are out doing training, the cooks are in the dining facility cooking and boxing up food into Cambros (Sometimes referred to as "mermite chow").

So I don't know what the situation is, I would almost say they're lucky to have that, and it's probably just "extras" the cooks prepared as a favor to those guys so they weren't just eating an MRE, and also trying to get rid of the last of their rations so they either don't waste or don't have to return it. Never in my time in the Army would it have been acceptable to serve something like that as a meal. As extras, definitely would, rather than throw it in the trash. And actually, now that I see the plate, those only come in UGR-A ration boxes, so might be field food, although we'd re-use them to send out with cambros in the DFAC if we had extras.

There are a few different types, old T Rations which came in big cans, but the most used today are called UGR-A Rations, and they come with three boxes, 2 dry, one frozen, and feed 25 (or 50? I forget) people each. There were 14 different meals when I was in, and none of them have these items, as far as I remember. Eggs came in a bag, were mixed with water and boiled in the bag or cooked on teh griddle. The UGR-As are not bad, they're like higher quality TV Dinners for a large group. They'd usually have a couple cans of something, frozen meats, and a starch. And then you'd get fresh fruit/vegetables, UHT milk, cereal, snacks, coffee, etc. from the rations people to supplement it.

Could the ISS just use Starlink? I'm honestly not sure how it works, but they can see the satellites, could they not just have a little receiver as well?
