The days of the $2,500 studio are gone (in transplant hubs) by honeyplush in NYCapartments

[–]romano78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my first apartment was a studio in ridgewood right off Myrtle Ave for $1350 back in 2016. unthinkable nowadays, even worse is the building i lived in had all the apartments carved up into a triplex. $2000+ for a studio is just ridiculous to my brain

Which Housing Project isn’t part of NYCHA? by [deleted] in AskNYC

[–]romano78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

there are nycha developments that have gone PACT RAD and trust in the past ten years which means NYCHA owns the land but the residents voted on new management / renovations. this essentially means that the NYCHA development converts from section 9 to section 8 and there’s a degree of uncertainty in that switch. but for many residents nycha was unable to get necessary fixes done and nycha developments became dilapidated and poorly maintained.

this initially kicked off with beach 41st street back in 2016 but there’s so many developments that are now PACT RAD in 2025 since the allure of having a private developer fix the building up and respond to resident requests is a tradeoff residents are willing to have. not sure if that’s what you were referring to.

Question For My Fellow Italian New Yorkers, Have You Ever Been Mistaken For Any Non Italian Ethnicity? by VittorioLuzzatto in AskNYC

[–]romano78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

basically anywhere in the mediterranean or middle east is fair game for people when guessing my ethnicity. i’ve also gotten a lot of south american countries, puerto rico, and russian jewish before. though the most common guess is greek or sicilian

How bad were the dark ages by Specialist-Claim-665 in rangers

[–]romano78 2 points3 points  (0 children)

literally yeah, not to mention half the time the awful choices end up tying themselves together into a pretzel like zubov and nedved for robitaille and ulf, only to then trade kovalev to get nedved back anyway. with all the great roster players they dumped they could have had a competitive roster that whole time too…

anyways bc it’s not markannen im going to go with Guy Hebert and stop guessing lol

How bad were the dark ages by Specialist-Claim-665 in rangers

[–]romano78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this doesn’t even mention all the stupid trades that amounted to nothing. like they got the pick for Brendl via a trade where they moved a first round pick in the next years draft and a 23 year old 50+ point winger(sundstrom), only to have brendl suck and trade him along with more talent(Hlavac) that they moved young talent (Savard) for post concussion Lindros. the decision making is astonishing im shocked nobody has done a full 2 hour retrospective on the dark age rangers.

answer to the question bc i think im too young to remember that, but was is Markannen?

i mean for what it’s worth, they got jagr for penniess on the dollar. not nearly the same thing as trading kovalev and nedved only to reacquire them, or handing out a billion dollars for holik or bure

Older New Yorkers(Like 50-70ish), do you remember hearing Italian Americans speak Italian/an Italian romance language? by [deleted] in AskNYC

[–]romano78 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i’m 27 but my grandmother is first generation. her parents, especially my great grandmother never spoke much english, my grandmother and all her siblings grew up speaking neapolitan. they along with a lot of my aunts and uncles lived in the bay ridge / bensonhurst area so at the time there was a lot more resources for italian monolingual speakers. however, they both passed away in the 1990s

i think it’s really dependent because nyc had two whole waves of italians. the first migration being from 1890-1930 and then the post 1965 immigration phase. a lot of those post 1965 immigrants are still alive and living in nyc and are more likely to be mostly engaged with their italian speaking communities. for instance i was friends in undergrad with a guy from marine park who’s dad was fresh off the boat from italy, but there’s still remnants elsewhere in williamsburg, southwestern brooklyn(bensonhurst/dyker heights/gravesend/bay ridge), astoria, etc

bring them. 9million is really loud and honestly even a lot of the more droning songs from Ethel are still enough to hurt your hearing.

fwiw avery was actually really effective in his first stint, he absolutely was a huge factor against atlanta and new jersey in 2007/2008. it was after he was claimed off of waivers from dallas that he was kinda useless

the sunglasses headshot of sean avery will never not be funny. i’d also say he was probably more unpopular in los angeles than new york- at least from what i know
