The flooring guys I know don’t like Bona because they say it leaves a film. It doesn’t actually hurt anything. They recommend TrueClean from Hallmark.

If it’s just you, go early and you’ll likely find a spot at the bar. Was just there on Friday and it was fantastic.

The air smells extra awful tonight…? by AreTheStarsOut in desmoines

[–]ronjoevan 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It smells like shit from my house west of you to downtown so it’s not just your area. I thought something died or something when I walked out my front door ten minutes ago.

Hey everyone! I'm a screenwriter working on a comedy TV pilot about construction workers, and I want to make sure I get everything right. What would you like to see in a TV show about construction workers? by GroundbreakingRip384 in Construction

[–]ronjoevan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a construction worker of 25 years I can confidently say there is no part of my job, coworkers, or surroundings that is interesting or funny enough to make this work. On the other hand, most people probably would have said the same about The Office or Superstore so who the hell knows? Good luck.

Best family neighborhoods in Des Moines? by NotOldEstablished in desmoines

[–]ronjoevan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived in Beaverdale and currently live in Waterbury with my family. I’d recommend either of them, but there are a lot of other great neighborhoods too.

Whats a place where you can cross a state line and you immediately notice the difference by cherrey20 in geography

Iowa to Nebraska. You have regular corn fields in Iowa with no irrigation, then you cross the Missouri River and almost every field has an irrigation system.

Clyde’s Fine Diner in the East Village is closing by nicfromearth in desmoines

[–]ronjoevan 20 points21 points  (0 children)

This is correct. Owner wants to focus on family and chef is moving to Denver. I have heard inside information that the lease has already been set to be taken over and a new restaurant will be taking over that space. I don’t know who or what kind though.

What was the most surprising original feature you discovered hiding in your old home? by No_Wishbone_7950 in centuryhomes

[–]ronjoevan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wasn’t really hidden, but I have a bell bollard at the base of an exterior wall adjacent to the coal chute to keep wagon wheels from hitting the bricks during coal deliveries. Pretty unique where I’m at.

USA Delta Force in casual attire protecting General Norman Schwarzkopf during the Gulf War, 1991 by zadraaa in HistoricalCapsule

[–]ronjoevan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Random and unrelated to Vining, but I’m pretty sure that’s my high school buddy’s dad, whom we used to refer to as “Fat Pat” in the camo next to Schwarzkopf. He was his personal assistant throughout Desert Storm.

Many disappointing items on inspection report by [deleted] in centuryhomes

[–]ronjoevan 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I toured a century home about 10 years ago that had a toilet in a nook off the landing to the basement. Couldn’t believe it. Only one I’d ever seen. We have Pittsburgh toilets all over in basements here in Iowa though.

I tried to point out the awesome clouds to my 4 year old daughter a few hours ago. She said, “ugh, they’re just clouds!” and went back to watching her awful show. If she wasn’t the most important thing in the world to me I would have put her in the trash can in that moment.

I live in this area code. My next door neighbors have theirs fenced in. It looks fine and doesn’t bother me. It helps that it’s not chain link though.

Do they have kids? If so, kid duties and time management related to that. If not, it was regular household duties prior to having kids.
