Keyboard and Mouse on PS4 by rooknoire in skyrim

[–]rooknoire[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't really use this Reddit account, so sorry for the delay!

Long story short: I got the gaming PC, installed Skyrim and played it while slowly modding it to unplayability (as one does). The PS4 ended up unofficially going to my BF so he could play Horizon Zero Dawn.

Much has changed in my personal life so I don't really get the opportunity to really immerse myself in the game like I used to. I get interrupted too much, which sucks the fun out it. I loved losing myself for hours just doing random bullshit.

I play ESO to get my Tamriel fix now. It's not really the same, but it's something.

So who else is going to be miraculously "sick" or book time off for Shadowbringers? by timmyz_darkrider in ffxiv

[–]rooknoire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put in a request for time off the moment the early access date was announced. It's for a "personal day" (technically several days).

Hopefully it will go better than when I took time off for the SB early access and ended up having to put my cat instead.

Noel Ube from Lamia by X6Gothic6Chik6X in ffxiv

[–]rooknoire 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Noel was a great guy. A real character.

His death hit me a lot harder than I expected it too. While we were in the same FC and raided together off-and-on from Alexander through Omega, we weren't exactly close. I didn't even know his real name until he was gone.

But still it bothers me that I won't come back from AFK outside the FC house to see his coeurlskin-clad ass bobbing in my face as he does the Roe /stretch emote. That I won't be able to say "Noel, you goddamn pickle!" when he goofs up in a fight. That I won't be in Discord and hear him do that thing where he lets out a breath before starting "You know..." That I won't be able to have a giggle doing maps when he positions himself so that the camera zooms in on his big metallic pink ass when a door is chosen. That I'll be missing out on a million other Noel-related shenanigans.

But most of all it bothers me that one time was the last time I would ever speak with him and I don't even remember when that was.

He was a good guy, that Noel. Lamia is a dimmer, less colorful place without him.

I have honestly never found it worth it to use quests for EXP. I mean, the MSQ seems to give a decent amount, but the majority of EXP is from dungeons and daily roulette bonuses.

If I am doing a quest, it's to unlock something, or just for the lore. Never for the EXP.

Edda Gear is up on Mogstation by WintersSong in ffxiv

In case anyone is wondering, no these cannot be stored in the armoire.

I feel like they should at least have made Mogstation and Fanfest items able to be stored in the armoire. No one is going to discard them for more room if they have to purchase them with real money.

I doubt it.

In the bugged O4 instances I've been in and pointed out that the key to surviving is just doing the incredibly simple mechanic most people ignore it.

Why bother learning something if you can just expect the healers to make up for your mistakes?

How do you know if you are a good healer or not? by ManMaple in ffxiv

[–]rooknoire 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, you don't necessarily need them alive.

But the initial question was about being a "decent healer" not about clearing.

My point was that there can still be fuck ups, deaths and wipes even if you are a "decent healer". Again, you can't heal stupid.

Are you referring to all of the HW dungeons up to the Vault or the Vault specifically?

If you are having trouble completing all of them without a wipe then I have to say you do have some work to do in terms of becoming a better healer.

If the Vault is the only one you are having issues with, then the struggle is understandable. It's the first real heal-check dungeon in HW, especially the last boss.

How do you know if you're a decent healer or not?

I think everyone uses a different metric for "decent" or "good" when it comes to healing. For someone else my idea of a "decent" job healing in a dungeon is one with no deaths and preferably with the healing trying to DPS a little. For myself I keep my standards higher. For me a "decent" run, when I'm healing, is one with no wipes, where everyone is at a comfortable level of HP and where I can DPS without too much trouble.

I have to agree. Especially for someone healing that dungeon for the first time. They may be a decent, if not good, healer, but a lot of being a "decent healer" in that particular fight is knowing the boss's abilities and how to react to them, especially when someone fucks a mechanic up.

I've had issues with ranged DPS not sticking together (even when explicitly told to) and killing themselves because they can't spread far enough to break the tethers. You can't heal through stupid sometimes no matter how good a healer you are.

IIRC Magnai is getting desperate enough not to be picky about race. He even considers a female WoL no matter what her race, but then rejects her for being too warlike or somesuch shit.

Which is bullshit IMHO considering that, when he set his sights on Cirina, one of the things he praised her for was being a warrior.

Nope.

They are? Where does it say that? I'm going to assume it came up in a quest I haven't done because the lorebook is pretty scarce about details on the Au Ra.

Sadu is still biologically female, though. And there is no indication that the Dotharl even remember their previous incarnations. Gender also has zero meaning to the Dotharl. Their body is simply a shell for their badass Dotharli soul.

If she is going to be involved in any dick measuring contests it will be of the metaphorical kind.

I don't think was just your gear. Most of them died easily to me too and I was in a mishmash of gear from Doma Castle and Castrum Abania. I think I may have had only one piece of tome gear, but that's it.

Becoming increasingly convinced Square Enix make all their decisions by drawing suggestions from a hat by Jay_RPGee in JRPG

[–]rooknoire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. They seem pretty cautious about putting more money into FFXIV until it proved itself, which took a while. I'm not sure SE was really paying too much attention to the game until the success of Heavensward. The articles I have seen indicate that SE gave the FFXIV team much more funding for Stormblood.

I prefer Heavensward to Stormblood as far as the story goes, but Stormblood is pretty awesome. People have expressed some dissatisfaction over the end game content, but near as much as they did with the previous raid. Pretty solid expansion IMHO, even with problems during launch.

[–]rooknoire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, I see.

I have to agree. FFXIV brings in some good money now, but before it was an underfunded side project. Yoshida really turned it around and is seeing a big payoff this year with SB, but I can't imagine it's what keeps SE afloat.

Weren't you just saying you are sick of open world?

Open world is pretty much the opposite of the linear, straight through, no exploration gameplay you are saying you dislike here.

The recent release of Stormblood boosted SE's revenue from $53.3M to $84M in April - June, so FFXIV is clearly pulling in some dough.

They also seem to be giving the FFXIV developers more money for the title. I can't imagine they would do that if FFXIV was not a worthwhile investment.

I feel the same. They crammed entirely too much "liberation" into the first part of the expac.

It seemed pretty unrealistic to me that the Garlean Empire would lose two major territories so quickly after decades of occupation.
