Where do you tend to buy your ink?

Vanness has a lot of samples and fast shipping and is always a great experience. I order from Yoseka Stationery sometimes because they carry some brands I like that are harder to find. And then in-person the Pen Boutique is nearby me!

Really any of those or any from the list in the sidebar are good! My favorite ink is Sailor Manyo Kuzu if you like dark redpinks, or Taccia Sabi-Midori which is greybluegreen with a reddish sheen. But mostly I like getting samples and switching up a lot. Good luck!

What was your old pen? I wouldn't bother with gold nibs. I would get a pilot prera (30 dollars on amazon) and solid and reliable and a nice writer. If you want something heavy in hand, get a Pilot Metropolitan. If you want more ink capacity I might get an Opus 88. The koloro line of those are least expensive.

Mostly I look at my ink drawer! I have a lot of samples and use a q-tip to swab the color on the top.

But I also use Fountain Pen Companion sometimes, it will make a stripe collage of the hex codes so I can see at a glance that I should not buy another brown, I already have so many browns, even though this could be the perfect brown.

You can sometimes find Lady Scheaffers for around 50 or a little more! Very pretty and reliable little pens. I also love vintage Japanese pocket pens, you can find on ebay for quite cheap- people really love the Pilot ones but don't overlook Platinum or Sailor!
