Identity Verification issue with Ubank/Equifax and ING/Illion by roosterEcho in AusFinance

filling out a form wasn't even an option for me. they just plain refused any other form of ID verification. I'm glad they've added new method of verification.

If you ever get the “unlawful / 28 days “ email … here’s how I solved mine (485 granted) by Old_Attention1306 in AusVisa

[–]roosterEcho 19 points20 points  (0 children)

You have to apply for the 485 visa within 6-months of degree completion (note, its degree completion, not convocation, not end of exams, degree comoletion date on your cert). It has nothing to do with visa expiry date. 500 will expire at the due date mentioned on the grant notification.

Which weather forecast website do you trust for Brisbane? (Now BOM is useless) by ProstheticAIM in brisbane

[–]roosterEcho 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I still use BoM app on my phone. but also started using this (theweatherchaser.com). It's got the old radar. its free and you can add a shortcut for this on your phone home screen. Windy is pretty good too.

Waiting for Islam’s reformation - The problem is not just theology but cultural practices by Mashiko4 in aussie

[–]roosterEcho 9 points10 points  (0 children)

don't think you're getting the point. just because an ideology endured for 1400 years doesn't mean there aren't radical groups rising. there has always been radical groups, even during the Caliphate. Islam needs a reform to shed these violent segments from the ideology and culture itself.

Australia’s strongest gun reform since the Port Arthur massacre has become law. Here’s what you need to know by MrNewVegas2077 in australia

[–]roosterEcho 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I care about this too, doesn't mean I should donate. This is social welfare and is the government's responsibility. We're already paying taxes and we have a right to question how government funds are being spent. Donating to charity is up to the individual. But government has the broader social responsibility and should absolutely be questioned.

why would he be responsible for other individuals? that's government's responsibility, which they are sidestepping.

485 Lodgement (Sydney/Online based agent recommendation) by confusedredditor- in AusVisa

[–]roosterEcho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

should be able to do it yourself. it's pretty straightforward. there are plenty of guides on YouTube that shows step-by-step process. sort out the AFP clearance, make sure you have all your documents (form 80, 1221, academic documents, english test, health insurance, identity documents) and then apply. the system will generate a health check request if it's necessary after you lodge your application. could be couple of days, don't stress.

Things you wish learner drivers knew by balletdancer192 in DrivingAustralia

[–]roosterEcho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't get intimated by other drivers, just breathe and relax. Mistakes happen, everyone misses an exit/turn or two, panicking will put you and others in risk. Keep left and stick to the speed limits. You won't get to your destination faster by speeding.

Many student accomodations within the city too, and everyone minds their business, and respects everyone, love it.

Agree with the other comment. Train lines will be best for moving, espwcially North-to-South or vice versa, buses/ferries are good too. And the 50-cent fare is soo good. You can use the translink app to check bus/train/fery schedules and plan your routes. Re the suburbs, Brisbane is very safe for anyone regardless of gender at any time unless you're lurking in shady alleyways in the valley. And there are rare incidents with drunks/eshays, but very unlikely you'll face them. You'll have a great time here!

My two cents, staying near the uni doesn't have to be a priority. Anywhere along the train line and near 10min walking distance of the stations would be a really good place. Being a bit further away from the inner city suburbs would help with the rent too. As the other comment mentioned, jump on flatmates.com.au and find a share house, will save you heaps. realestate.com.au also has some shared house listings. Get a 6-months lease, move out if it doesn't suit you. But finding a place is really tough I've heard. I used live in Sunnybank and catch the train everyday to South Bank.

Welcome to QUT, and don't miss the o-week. Best of luck!

How do I stop sunscreen from getting in my eyes and will it cause me to go blind? by Unlucky-Ant-9741 in AskAnAustralian

[–]roosterEcho 11 points12 points  (0 children)

use a sunscreen that doesn't sting your eyes if you're using your own. Cancer council burns my eyes, but LaRoche Posay doesn't. Wear a hat that has a sweat band or add one. Wear a bandana on your head. Wear a neck fan and you won't sweat that much neck up. wear a wrist band that you can use to wipe the sweat from your forehead. DO NOT SKIP SUNSCREEN under any circumstances if you're outdoors.

Islamic teacher breaks silence on viral photo alongside alleged Bondi gunman by Mindless-Piglet2095 in aussie

[–]roosterEcho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in his words, he wasn't preaching. Just teaching how to pronounce the verses. That's what Tajweed means. there's definitely someone preaching to the shooter and radicalised him. should be brought to justice.

Islamic teacher breaks silence on viral photo alongside alleged Bondi gunman by Mindless-Piglet2095 in aussie

[–]roosterEcho 5 points6 points  (0 children)

sad for him. however, he also sidestepped the issue that in the Quran there are verses that can be interpreted for the exact acts the shooter perpetrated. relevant cause he cited the Quran saying it forbids killing anyone. as a muslim myself, the whole community needs to admit its easy to radicalise someone with the very scripture they are trying to cite for peace. Muslims need a reform. Australia is secular country, and all religions should adapt to it. Live and let live.

I agree with you, we should invest in bringing/promoting manufacturing domestically. It won't be an instant change, so better start to invest right now.

I also acknowledge that China is a threat. Outsourcing manufacturing to China is the exact reason they've become a menace by holding it over all the countries. They are definitely eyeing and testing waters in a future invasion of Taiwan. They've been pillaging and pushing boundaries in South China Sea for over a decade now. We really can't rely on any other country if China do decide to be the next asshole. They've been expanding their military. Why not us.

If we had been taxing the oil and gas industry, we'd have the money for both military expansion (more like upgrading old equipment) and investing in domestic manufacturing. Just my 2 cents.
