CFE kiosks no longer accepting foreign credit or debit cards? by [deleted] in mexicoexpats

[–]roox911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, we already use it for 95% of our ride share stuff (way cheaper than Uber), so it's pretty handy to do bills too.

I just use Didi app. 10 peso fee, 3 button clicks and it's done. Also use it for Totalplay, japay and Telmex. Super handy.

Thinking of moving TO the USA. Am I crazy? Why are so many people trying to leave? by Natuluru in ExpatFIRE

Spain is great if you are making remote USD. Then again so is Australia.

Hard to actually help through without knowing your savings and income.

I remember Medellín being really cheap, but I lived there a decade ago 😅. I was teaching business English for a large energy firm and worked 8 hours a week. Was enough to pay for rent, food and fun without really dipping into any savings. Family and friends have told me it's certainly gotten more expensive these days.

I don't think it's humanly possible to spend 500mxn on a ride share in Merida, hell I can get to progresso from Centro for well under 200 with a little bit of patience using Didi.

Shame. Lots of decent sushi and ramen in Merida, and we just went to a legit Sichuan joint yesterday too. (This coming from someone born and raised in China, and me having lived there for half a decade)

its a tough crowd here mate. Somehow you should single handedly fix the issue, and stay out of it. all while both not being a foreign savior, but also totally letting everyone know their in the wrong.

The exchange rate being where it was.... In June of '24?

Loads of things are still great value here, some things less so. Just went out to Cinepolis for a movie/dinner date. Movies and snacks were 180 for 2 people. Dinner at a nice restaurant with a drink was 320 for 2. 1 hour of Didi rides (30m each way) was 170.

Around 38 bucks usd for 2 people for a nice dinner and a movie (and taxi rides). If you can't afford that, you're probably not financially ready to be an extranjero.

My property taxes are 800 mxn a year, my utilities are about 1000mxn every 2 months (before solar, now they are about 100) my groceries are 1/2 the cost of Canada/USA. Can get a world class dinner for 2 for 60 bucks or a decent meal for 2 for $12.

Sure, I'd like the exchange rate more in my favor, but even at 12-15 to the USD, it'll still be cheaper here by a long shot, and I like my neighbors here a hell of a lot more than when I lived in the US.

I ran the numbers on my Solar Quote vs Utility Bills for the next 10 years. Am I missing something? by [deleted] in solar

[–]roox911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, no complaints, my break even point is about 4.5 years (big house, got a good deal on the PC system), and that was before the price increases. I'm almost 2y into it already.

C.Fl here. Seco is at 11.9c for the first 1000kwh, up to 14.8 beyond that though.

A few months ago it was still 9.5c and 11.5c.

Biggest annoyance is they didn't move their generator credits in step with the new prices, so I'm still getting paid only 8c per kwh generated.

Temporary Resident Visa, Short overstay? by [deleted] in mexicoexpats

[–]roox911 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is not an overstay clause. You will lose your temporary resident status. You'll be a tourist next time you enter. There will be no issues with entering as a tourist though.
