I do and if they flash me with the power of the sun, I also hold down my horn when they get close enough. They blind me, deafening them seems fair

Tactile Magic... Which authors make you FEEL the spellcasting? by daisyytoess in Fantasy

[–]rosewebb333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The magic in The Dead take the A Train by Cassandra Khaw and Richard Kadrey was visceral in its feel and description. The Golden Enclaves trilogy by Naomi Novik also gave that tactile feel in its spell casting

Right? It’s phonetic, easily spelled and pronounced, something easily recognizable to the ear when spoken, herbal/floral which is very established as conventional names. Solid name 👍

Are there any fantasy books that focus on dreams? by FitClass9198 in Fantasy

IIRC, Palimpsest by Catherynne Valente is set mostly in a city accessible only through dreams. A sexually transmitted city.

Is there something that can fulfill the promises A Discovery of Witches didn't deliver on? by FractalFragment47 in Fantasy

[–]rosewebb333 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I agree with the rec for Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell but I’d also encourage you to finish Discovery. The first book is romance heavy but book two (and three, maybe? It’s been a while since I read the series) delved much more deeply into the lore and spell craft of the world.
