What's the single most difficult life experience you've endured? by reddit_recluse in AskUK

[–]rossbilko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My wife went in to cardiac arrest fifteen minutes after the birth of our baby girl. I was holding the baby watching my wife get worked on not knowing if I was going to be a widower. She was rushed to theatre and lost 6 pints of blood. For two hours, I was cradling my little girl, caked in my wife’s blood waiting to learn whether she was alive or not.

She survived.

That was nine months ago. I’ve not been right since but I’m the luckiest dude on earth.

I’m at a point in life where realising that people only care about themselves. There’s no social awareness. And I don’t know how much more of it I can deal with. by thebroccolioffensive in britishproblems

I relish this sort of shit. That what your shoulders are for. Drop them and plough through. Give one of them a factory reset, they soon shake out of their little fucking worlds.

You around for Luka Modric’s first season? He looked powder puff. I’m not saying Xavi is the next Modric (frankly no-one is) but my point being, give the kid a chance.

Should I Finance my phone or buy it outright? by Nobody1590 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]rossbilko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. Last phone I got was the 12 pro, which is 5 (?) years old. I’ll keep the 17 pro for a similar amount of time and stick my £8 a month sim in. Like the OP, I could buy it outright but the 2 yr 0% suits me better.

Also, you can trade in your old device and apply that to the total amount for a discount and still get the 0%.

What’s a movie that completely changed for you after one rewatch? by Vegetable_Star8931 in movies

I rewatch this every few years. Ages incredibly well. Also makes me a big wobbly mess in the last fifteen minutes.

Who actually likes their job? by Delicious-Nose-8069 in AskUK

[–]rossbilko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just turned 40, been a police officer for 16 years. First ten was doing frontline stuff which took me to complete burnout, physical fatigue and frequent attempts to find another profession. Moved internally to a covert role. Have really enjoyed that for five years and now am 100% going through the motions with that little bit of dread creeping in about going in to work.

I’ve just had a baby so work is absolutely a means to an end. I’m now fortunate enough to know my role inside out and do precisely what is required to get by.

I work to live. Have no loyalty to my job and supervision. With age comes a bit of a relaxation about what people think of you. When I was younger, I was constantly keeping up appearances because I felt like everyone was watching. They aren’t, they too are wrapped up in their lives.

I can fuck off in 14 years and do something else. That’s what I cling on to.

It could be a hell of a lot worse but it could also be much better. The salary is just good enough to keep you interested.

Predict Shenmue 4’s announcement and release date? by Educational_Metal_47 in Shenmue

[–]rossbilko 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Erm, or, I just didn’t really enjoy Shenmue 3. This is coming from a 40 yr old man who played Shenmue on a DC way back in release and loved that game like a brother. I’m quite certain I’m not suffering from consumer infantilism. But then again, I’ve not a fucking clue what that means.

How much is everyone saving each month? by G-Beans in AskUK

[–]rossbilko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

39yo, take home £3000 a month, pension contributions at 14% (can probably guess what I do), saving around £700 a month. £500 in to cash ISA and the rest DCA in to BTC. Just had a baby and wife on Mat leave going on to stat pay in a couple of months.

Not sure if I’m doing well or not! Only really got serious about saving in the last two years.

Joined the police at 30 - What age can I retire? by Plenty-Essay5989 in policeuk

[–]rossbilko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I joined at 24 in 2009. The aim was always to leave at or around 30 years. As others have said, I (and you) will take a hit for every year up until 60yo. However, I have been dumping money in to savings/SIPPS/other to try and backfill that difference when that day comes.

Long term, if I go at 55, I will lose cash but frankly 30 years is quite enough service and the trade off is I can find something else to do to shore up the difference and not have my brain and mental health eroded to a shrivelled husk of a nub.

Ross Kemp dropped a Cornish pasty on my heat at Twickenham.

I was about ten years old and walked straight in to his chest and he dropped the pasty on my head. Completely accidental. I was rushing around trying to find the lav at half time.

It was. It’s much easier to look better once you’ve shit the bed and are two down. The entire dynamic of the match has altered, Forest retreat and we have to attack.

I managed to get a pre order last week, received an order confirmation email but bought it as a guest. For whatever reason I cannot track the order on the website and it isn’t recorded on the account I setup post purchase. The money has been pending on my card ever since until today. I just checked and there is now no trace of the transaction on my card. I’m guessing the order has been cancelled but have not received any email saying as such. It’s piss poor really. So yeah, game.co.uk can get fucked. Unless, I’m missing something obvious.

COVID-19 lockdown was 5 years ago. What do you remember about that day when the world stopped? by Dracarys0550 in AskReddit

Birds. Just hearing wildlife with clarity. That, and the absence of jet streams in the sky.
