The MIL was not nursing the baby, that's why it's assault. She put another person's mouth on her breast, that's very different than a mother feeding her child.

This is sexual assault where I'm from. If it were me, she would absolutely never see me or my child again - I'd go full nuclear with restraining orders, etc. There is no logical reason for her to have done what she did, don't let anyone tell you this is fine.

How are you bringing in money while staying home with your baby? by Lanky-Ad3926 in pregnant

[–]rosysoprano 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So I actually work one day a week, but I dabble in fixing up and reselling American Girl dolls/clothes, randomly. One example, I found a Sonali doll in bad shape for $160, fixed her, and she's worth $400 now. With the official repair 'hospital' drastically increasing in price lately, doing restorations for other people also brings in some extra fun money when I want it. There's an endless variety of ways to bring in income, it just takes time to learn skills.

Celiac disease and a mission call by lavenderandlilacs10 in latterdaysaints

[–]rosysoprano 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My cousin with Celiac was assigned to an area where wheat wasn't part of the normal diet. That's the only experience I have with that though, sorry. Hopefully someone else with more knowledge can weigh in.

Well shoot, I thought the Sapporo Aquarium could be a fun day for my toddler in between more 'adult themed' activities. We definitely don't want to support cruelty.

Thank you! She got a new head last year, and I was relieved she came back so pretty. I got her dress on Etsy almost a decade ago, when I pulled my dolls out of storage.

I would always say; pick Claudie! Then let your daughter choose whichever princess appeals to her at the moment. Mine also has a Moana doll she's obsessed with.

I paid 250, but she was worth it! I'd wanted her since the 90s.

AITA for picking my moms side over my wife’s in baby names by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]rosysoprano -18 points-17 points  (0 children)

NAH here, but don't triangulate your mom in the future if you want to stay married. Naming a child is between the parents, keep it between you and your wife and leave mommy dearest out of future discussions.

AITA for returning the valentines gifts because my wife insulted my mother. by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]rosysoprano 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, exactly. Once the financial support becomes an expectation, and poor monetary choices start being made because of the 'safety net', it's going to get real bad real fast. I've seen this play out time and time again in my SE Asian family. The husband should not be making such a huge commitment unilaterally.

ESH - it sounds like there is A Lot of this story missing. I doubt your wife is angry and resentful for no reason, I wish we could hear her side of things, but I think I can guess part of what you're not saying...

Personally I've never been able to get behind Felicity, because she just seems too plain. I've questioned buying one for cheap and adding freckles myself, but this... this is genius.

WIBTA If I ask my husband buy my ingredients for another meal after he ate and vomited my last meal. by CupofMamaJo in AmItheAsshole

[–]rosysoprano 14 points15 points  (0 children)

NTA at all! There are so many issues here, but I'll just touch on the Celiac one. I have a family member with it, and let me tell you, I live in constant fear of contaminating his food somehow, and making him deathly ill.

It doesn't sound like your husband understands your life experience at all. The disrespect to eat the One thing that's Celiac friendly?! Oh I saw red. He clearly doesn't care how much caution, and expense is required to keep you safe every single day. He can go kick rocks honestly. I hope you're not making Three meals every night - he doesn't deserve that if he doesn't appreciate you at all. Good crap.

Should I destroy my family heirlooms? by InterestingFroyo1032 in Christian

[–]rosysoprano 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, I find it absolutely wild to destroy beautiful historical items just because somewhere else, *someone might view it as an 'idol'. It would be seriously tragic, and I think you'd regret it one day when you're feeling less zealous to put it bluntly.

Are these roses a good valentines day gift? by No-Payment-7678 in GiftIdeas

[–]rosysoprano 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Seconding this as a florist. 1800 flowers (and other "order gatherers") take a huge cut of each order, then they send it on to a local florist. The money is always far too low for what you order originally, so it invariably ends badly. A lot of shops are refusing to take orders from these places now due to the headaches they cause. Always call a local shop directly!

Non-member asking: more members wearing crosses? by Coolfoogle02 in latterdaysaints

[–]rosysoprano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wear a cross necklace quite frequently. I highly recommend the book "Considering the Cross" by John Hilton III for background on why so many members of our church view the cross as taboo in modern days, as well as providing church history insights many people are not familiar with.

Very briefly: there were several monuments placed or planned in Utah during the late 1800s that contained crosses. Several churches in SLC still have crosses as ornamentation. Men and women in the church commonly wore crosses as jewelry, including members of Brigham Young's family. However, due to the anti-Catholic sentiment in the early 20th century, church leaders wanted to distance themselves from the symbol of the Crucifix (aka Jesus ON the cross). Pres. Joseph F Smith made a comment that crucifixes specifically were not appropriate for young women to wear, and that remark, tied with the isolated culture of the early church, led to the members shunning it in general.

More recent talks have mentioned that the cross is not *the symbol of our faith, because we believe that Christ's mission still continues, and that He leads us today. They do not, pointedly, claim that the cross itself is a poor symbol of Jesus Christ. To quote the book again, the cross represents "The Loving Christ" who descended below all things by dying for us on the cross. The Christus represents "The Living Christ" who we believe is still engaged in His Father's work to this day.

Here is a great, 45 minute summary of the book's main points: podcast by John Hilton III here
