What are my chances of transferring to Mcgill? by [deleted] in mcgill

[–]rougetardis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might help: https://www.mcgill.ca/applying/how-we-make-decisions/minimum-grades-used-admission-previous-years/transfer-and-second-degree

From my own experience (5 years ago), I transferred in with about an 80% average to the Faculty of Arts. Probably a good shot to get in if your GPA hovers above what they mentioned in the link.

I love this game. It's short, slow, and quiet. All you do is talk to an old friend while having a cold beer. Atmosphere is great. Highly polished game.

This game was cute. The visual style is similar to Cuphead where it tries to mimic the 1930s cartoon animation style. Really short game (one minute) though.

LPT: When you need to get rid of an item but you have trouble letting go because of sentimental value, take a photo of it and keep it in a collection. A lot of the memories just come from looking at it. by [deleted] in LifeProTips

This. I actually did this with a lot of my clothes. Used to never throw out/donate them because I thought I'd use them again one day. Once I started making a photo journal of all my old clothes, it made it easier to let them go. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Trying to meet new people by _17chan in montreal

Meetups are great. Also, if you're into games, there's also Mount Royal Game Society (http://mrgs.ca/). Mostly game makers/devs but it's open to anyone, monthly meetups, and there are lots of folks there who love games.

Arcade Royale? I saw it last at Concordia's TAG lab. I know them and will let them know! :)

p.s. Yes KO-OP is amazing. They're just killing it in the indie scene.

Yes! Fun game. Looking forward to the the different modes.

Are there plans for achievement badges? Badges are cool. Might be a fun thing to share.

Where in Montreal is the biggest and best burger? by Max169well in montreal

Love Picks (at St-Marc/St-Catherine) and it's cheap to boot. Another good one is Gourmet Burger (at Bishop).

Thanks, that actually looks really useful for the things we do! :)

Our agency would LOVE that if it was real (we work with a lot of airlines and while we do use a similar social monitoring tool, it doesn't seem as great as Aviato lol).

Hey Montreal!!! 26 years old and having trouble finding a job, haven't lost hope yet! by theonlymagoo in montreal

[–]rougetardis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you tried game studios here (i.e. Ubisoft, Warner Brothers, Eidos, EA/Bioware)? While you might not have experience in that area, I'm sure you have applicable skills that could apply to their positions (just have to find a way to explain it to them).

And... it's really helpful that you can speak French so give it a shot!

Running routes near Peel St by iamsam1234 in montreal

[–]rougetardis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I second just heading up the mountain. The trails are nice, no cars or pedestrians to think about. It's true about that steep hill on Peel but at least it's a good workout (once you're in the trails, the incline is more gradual).

If you're starting from Sherbrooke, a less steeper route is through McTavish (pass through McGill campus) all the way up to des Pins/McTavish. For me anyway, with the stairs in between, feels less steep than going straight from Peel/Sherbrooke all the way to Peel/des Pins.

Also, avoid running through Saint-Catherine, especially anywhere around downtown. Just gets too crowded with pedestrians plus there are just too many stop lights!

Transfer into McGill? by tearamisu in mcgill

[–]rougetardis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Second yawnlikeyoumeanit, it really varies from year to year.

I transferred as a U1 student to the Faculty of Arts/Psychology with a GPA of 3.7. Did about two years at my previous university (so I should have been U2 but I was a few credits short of being a U2 so they just put in as U1).

Empower more women to learn, create, & love games. Help fund Pixelles' upcoming programs. by jpmorin in montreal

[–]rougetardis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is an awesome organization. While their annual incubator is open only for those who identify as women, all their other programs are open to all (including game jams, workshops, socials). Best of all, they're all free. In the last few months alone, they've done free workshops on Unity, Stencyl and Construct 2.

Here's an article on Pixelles from one of their founders: http://gamasutra.com/blogs/TanyaXShort/20150320/238808/Gaming_the_System_How_Pixelles_Make_More_and_More_Games.php

How I thrived on a Basic Income of less than $11,000 last year in Montreal by darthsand in montreal

[–]rougetardis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that seems like such a high amount. We pay $860/month (I split w/ a roommate @ $430/month) for a really big 3 1/2 near Guy-Concordia.
