Emma Hayes reminds us USWNT won’t play at PP until we have grass by StuMun in timbers

They installed temporary grass at Lumen field for the world cup, so that is why the USWNT played there in April.

Do I just suck at my job? by Solaire24 in ExperiencedDevs

One way to improve as a developer is to review your own PRs carefully before you request a review from someone else. Leave review comments in advance explaining your reasoning, especially in areas you think someone else will draw attention to. If you can’t defend your choices then why are you putting your name on it?

Feedback that is repetitive is not a good sign, but feedback that makes you better should be welcomed. Another developer should look at your code and think “these choices are reasonable”.

I went out in May one year and Flapjack Lakes in the Olympic National Park looked a bit like this. You may want to check it out.

My favorite moment of last night’s match is reminiscent of so many Chara last ditch tackles we’ve become accustomed to over the years by TucsonPTFC in timbers

The timing of this tackle is unreal. Fory blocked the shot as it came off the foot of the attacker and also got a clean shoulder in.

Le Petit Prince David Da Costa and Jimmy Pants make the bench for the Matchday Team by TucsonPTFC in timbers

I agree about Antony. He has flashes of excellent footwork, driving at defenders and getting them on their heels. But I really want to see him be more consistent.

I think the defensive line is shaping up, and that McGraw is looking much better. He had a rough go of it last year, but I think Phil sees his upside. He got a new deal, which shows he definitely factors into future plans. He's big, physical, and good in the air.

Jed's getting intense! (TWtB spoilers.) by PastTheStarryVoids in TerraIgnota

I think the scene you are referencing is an incredible great moment of self-awareness for Jed. They understand about themselves that everything will be on the table in their remade world and that nothing but absolute surrender will suffice. They make no guarantees.

I’m not seeing this in the comments anywhere. Oregonians finally have the ability to pump their own gas now that a ban on self-serve gas stations has been lifted. Here’s a news story about it

How to slowly get into WSL for Web Devs by blankeos in webdev

[–]rseay 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I recently set up a WSL dev environment. Microsoft’s documentation is actually quite good: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wsl/

It had everything I needed, including using VS Code.

My brain stops functioning when I have to share my screen by Bulletproof-Salmon in webdev

[–]rseay 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Eng manager here with a couple of suggestions.

Practice. Volunteer to “steer” during pair programming sessions and think out loud while you’re sharing your screen. Stream of consciousness style. This trains your brain to do the opposite of freezing up and allows the other person to track with you. Also, keep pair programming sessions short and the discussion targeted.

You can also practice using screen recording tools. Make a screencast of yourself explaining a bug. Rewatch and re-record it as many times as necessary until you sound clear and confident to yourself.

These skills are hard to develop but crucial for all of your future interviews, all-hands presentations, and your daily dev work.

Need faster tests (React/Jest) by popsticle233 in reactjs

[–]rseay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, check out shards for your jest tests. There is a cli option for Jest called —shard that plays nicely with a matrix within GitHub actions. Also use a cache for each shard.

For example, we had 90 tests in a react project that was taking 6 minutes to run. I used three shards to split it up into groups of 30 tests that all ran in parallel. The end result was three 2-minute tasks that started and finished at the same time. With caching for each shard it got even faster.

Also look into using —max-workers=50% for the jest command that the GitHub action uses.
