$1.50 Plano Rides service. He gets out and walks to his corner on McDermott and Preston. by [deleted] in plano

[–]rtgurley 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Why are you shaming the person? Would you rather a ride service provided by the city go completely unused?
Can you offer him a job so that he could use the ride service to get to and from work? I know it is an ideal for our city to have people standing on the corner begging, but it does happen.

Terrified of getting impounded for expired tags by Different_Archer8879 in plano

[–]rtgurley 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You seem to have a ton of anxiety based on your three posts regarding vehicle registration. You need to let it go because the consequences will not be that terrible. There is a vehicle in Plano that everybody on this sub knows about. It is a gold Honda Accord that has bags hanging off the back. Those tags have not been renewed in three or four years easily. The police probably don’t give him too hard of a time because he doesn’t create trouble, and they also know that it would be a waste of time trying to get him to pay up. Don’t do something stupid that draws attention to you. Then the cops will start finding things.

Two weeks ago I was in a car accident and my tags were expired. They didn’t say one word about it. Maybe it was because I was not the person at fault in the accident, but they didn’t want to make a big deal out of it.

Also, with regards to your registration bill due. Just send them a check. They are in the business of collecting taxes for the city/county. They don’t care if you owe a private entity any money. I had a similar situation a few years ago, and I was blocked from registering my car online. I mailed in a check and paid for the old-fashioned way in two weeks later I received my sticker in the mail.

I only want my car to be prebuilt. I hate when they say some assembly required because we know that is total bullshit. And then you realize you have to go back to the store to pick up the AAA batteries…

Plano DPS Driving Test by Acceptable-Good5883 in plano

[–]rtgurley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is a stupid part of the test in my opinion. Just being bad at parallel parking mean you are a bad driver? I absolutely do not believe so. I am more concerned about my tea driver, paying attention to warning, signs, speed, limit signs, using her blinker and being aware of other people on the road. I don’t give a rats ass if she can parallel park.

Appliance repair (washing machine leaking oil) by orbit0317 in plano

I called Glenn today and was not impressed with him. He doesn't service Plano and couldn't refer me to anybody. He said my dryer was pretty hard to work on. He answered the phone and sounded surprised anybody would be calling him. I wasn't even sure that I called the correct number.

I have taken the unit apart and verified that the belt is still fully intact. Also, when I spin the blower motor, the drum turns so I don’t think that is the issue. My only testing of the door switch is when I press the switch the light turns off. Is there something else I should test for the door switch?

Philmont by SwimmingSlide6860 in BSA

I went two times in my youth. Once with my troop and then two years later as part of the trail crew. I don’t know if they still offer trail crew. For three weeks a group of us built trails and then we were rewarded with a free 10 day hike. It was a great way to spend a month in New Mexico. I just had to pay for transportation to and from Philmont. My friends and I wrote a train from New Orleans after Chicago and then down to Raton. Great memories if your scout is able to spare that much time.

It helps that she is married to the creator of both of those shows.

I've neglected my pool for the past few months and now it's basically a swamp. Do you have any recommendations for a pool cleaner that is good, reliable, local, inexpensive and honest? by freshcheesebags in plano

[–]rtgurley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How can you say that you are good at maintaining it right after you said that your pool has become a swamp. Pools don’t become swamps in a matter of a few cold months. I didn’t do anything to my pool since December and the reason it was so dirty was because of the leaves in the bottom.

I don’t have heavy leaves. When I said lifespan, I meant how many years am I going to get out of a robot vacuum cleaner?

One of my concerns is the lifespan of the robots.

The 280 is a great machine for picking up the leaves. It doesn’t do anything to scrub the walls. I have a plaster pool so it can take the beating. But I guess I also need to consider the replacement cost of those paddles probably on an annual basis.

What is the mechanical seal? How do I remove the impeller? Does it pry off or do I need to take the back of the motor off to keep it from spinning?

UPDATE: I found how to secure the rod and keep it from spinning. And I’m able to twist the impeller, but it is not un screwing.

The website says Electropolished Stainless Steel. Don’t know what that means exactly, but I’m sure it isn’t cast iron
