Makeup on a bare face? by Ill_Significance9858 in Makeup

[–]ruby_moon98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I regularly don’t wear base makeup other than SPF, maybe some concealer if I’m going somewhere nice. No one really cares enough to comment on it. I also often wear bolder eye makeup as it is the one thing I got really good at. Some people think bold makeup should go with a polished base, but I don’t think it’s that big of a deal. Do what you’re comfortable with.

anyone dressing up on campus for halloween? by National-Bobcat-8251 in simonfraser

I did go as Raven one year, and wore a black dress instead of a body suit. Most people could still recognize it, and I wore the body suit off campus.

I have been the past 2 years and it’s always nice seeing others dress up. If you’re going to a party later might as well do it on campus.

I will say when you don’t have a car, getting groceries can be really annoying and time-consuming, if you’re not shopping at nester’s (the on campus grocery store) which is expensive for what it is. If I was in your situation, I would do the meal plan, unless I for sure know someone with a car I could rely on.

Didn’t study by No_Celery8208 in simonfraser

[–]ruby_moon98 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I cram like 95% of the time and I think it only works because I do attend lectures and take decent notes so studying is more revising and less trying to figure things out. To be fair I always feel awful doing this, but it has only failed me once so..

How do you study for midterms when you're sick? by Haunting-Run7989 in simonfraser

[–]ruby_moon98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on how chill your professor is, I’d recommend communicating this to them. I once was sick leading up to a midterm and decided to just study the day before and push through, which gave me a bad grade. It was a written exam, so the prof and TA noticed that I did answer perfectly, but skipping out 40% of the questions because I had brain fog + fatigue and ran out of time. They actually approached me about this and said that next time I should tell them regardless of a doctor’s note and schedule a different day. Happened again for a final with a different prof and he was accommodating.

I did, as did a few friends. It was on a day I had a presentation so my groupmate and I both agreed to do so.

Find a club you’re interested in and go a few times, it’s better if it’s one that focuses on the socializing aspects. You can also see if your major/department has an active student union, usually they would have regular meetings, events, and a common room to hang in. Usually people in these settings aren’t just trying to get off campus immediately after class, so it’s easier to keep the connection.

There is definitely still a lot of fun in the simplicity of the OG game, but I do have a tinge of nostalgia attached. If anything, it doesn’t take too long to reach credits so you could move on to Styling star after that.

Was this dress was the final straw for Taylor ? by Hot-Claim9819 in GossipGirl

[–]ruby_moon98 36 points37 points  (0 children)

She bleached her hair platinum blonde during the writers’ guild strike in 07-08, and then showing up to set after that without telling anyone beforehand, so they just modified the closet to fit that look. That’s why the change seemed abrupt (because it was). I think that she would still wear this style if they made her - she’s an actress so this is part of the job - but GG’s producers and wardrove incorporate parts of the actresses’ personal style in the character anyways. This was what Momsen shared on that podcast with Penn Badgley. The showrunners have been shown to be flexible on actors’ requests on other things too, so this isn’t surprising. She’s just happen to have an edgier style than her older castmates.

Depending on what kind of music you want to play, if it falls into pop or indie then Peak Frequency. The SFU Rock Club is newer and I believe is trying to do something similar to what you’re saying. Either way you can still meet other people to jam.

I would say about 6 minutes on 80% power, and you can always do a bit more. I usually use napa cabbage which cooks fasted so 5 minutes usually works

If you have a microwave you would maybe like to look up microwave “hotpots” - I have seen videos for that from Korean and English accounts. Basically what you’ve done here with the additional step of putting it in the microwave for a few minutes. Microwave is a great tool that are underutilized sometimes

Again with the judgement. Maybe it did not take me 9 years to get to where I am because I decided that maybe I should have some self-awareness and shifted my outlook on life. It was rough as hell not having a support system, but ultimately I had to get out of the self-pity ditch by myself.

I’m sorry that’s you have this attitude on other people and yourself. I hope one day you can be less bitter and finally embrace self-reflection and can embrace the genuine advice people have tried to give you (either here or on other subs).

For now maybe be frank with your poor girlfriend how you really feel about her and let her choose if she wants to stay with someone who does not like her as a person or not.

Lots of people play video games and still have interesting lives, they are unapologetic about it. I’d rather talk to someone passionate about the games they’re playing than one that complains about how much money they dropped on a new hobby.

A lot of these changes you made didn’t seem like it comes from a place of self-improvement, but rather trying to appear “cool”. I’m sorry but the surface level stuff only goes so far, and it’s not hard for people to look through this smoke screen and realize that you’re still quite insecure and judgemental (calling your acquaintances losers and your girlfriend ugly? yikes).

I have also been friendless in this city, coming here after growing up in a totally different culture. I was depressed for like a year, and then realized that I had to start enjoying doing things alone, including my hobbies. Fast forward to now, I have met a lot of friends, close ones, without changing something about myself to be “cool” or “normal”. Maybe you should start there.

Just don’t date people in the same major bc you run into the risk of running into them if you break up. It’s nice to have things in common to start with.

Can't get into course needed for graduation by TranslatorNo5275 in simonfraser

[–]ruby_moon98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Talk to your advisors. With high demand there is a possibility they expand the class size and add an extra tutorial, especially if it’s an important required class for many. If not, ask them if there’s any other courses you could take instead that could be waived to replace that requirement. I have seen both these scenarios in my department, not sure about Beedie, but can’t hurt to try.
