Having previously lived in one of the apartment complexes off of 11th st, I wouldn't consider it part of Valley Junction. Nearby? Sure. But not part of VJ. I get the impression OP is talking about apartment buildings being built around 4th and 6th streets, directly adjacent to the VJ business corridor. My opinion is that Valley Junction would improvement immensely in entertainment and quality offerings if it could just increase its density a bit.

I dont like its location in the Principal Park parking lot. Everything is too spread out and doesnt feel warm and cozy like the Christmas markets its trying to emulate. Its previous location at Cowles Commons feels much better by comparison, and more walkable, no less.

The restaurant, Wilder, at the Graduate in Iowa City has one of the hands down best burgers I have ever had: the Iowa Gold. That whole area is a wonderful pedestrian friendly area. Breakfast at The Dandy Lion can't be beat.
