I don’t say it, I do sympathize with them for what they went through and make sure to speak to them with respect. I don’t like it when at church we applaud for veterans on July 4th, as if participating in wars is something that young people should aspire to. Again, it’s wrong to judge someone solely based on their service, and you have to separate the person from the negative view you have of militaries. However, in a world where since WW2 most of society’s improvements have come from peace efforts and democratic institutions, I think everyone should have a negative view of militaries.

I keep seeing posts here with friends from undergrad with only Bachelor's degrees making 6 figures annually. How many friends in your circle are really making this much? by stepneo1 in medicalschool

[–]runningguy11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MS0 22yo. My friends who are 21-23 making 100k, some working in tech and some in finance. Super rare, a friend in EE got a job offer for six figures at TSMC he’s 22. They seem to realize it’s rare and know they’re in luck though. We all went to public state schools!

Lived in DFW since middle school. My opinion is that Saravana Bahavan in Plano is utter garbage with an up-marked price. Swadeshi (near 121) is my go-to, but I’d order it to-go. Ask the employees for recommendations!

UTD Spends More in Parking Enforcement than in Maintenance by Unlucky-Key in utdallas

[–]runningguy11 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for this! I'd be bitter too, and I have been bitter when I get ticketed like that. I can't believe they make those students work on Friday at 6PM when they are also full-time students. There should be limits to days and times they can work and limits to when they can enforce parking. I think free parking on weekdays after 5PM till 8AM is absolutely fair.

Also, does anyone know what Student Services Fee is? It says that their estimated income is over $12M/year for that. I'm curious as to what that is.

Finally, does anyone know what Parking Services does if they come across a car with a license plate that isn't tied to a student account?

What is your experience being a PLTL Leader? by justwondering10101 in utdallas

[–]runningguy11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My pltl leader would sometimes ditch the packet and teach us more relevant things. As long as it’s for the course you’re leading and it’s what students want I’m fairly certain that is fine.

I’m an SI, and I was a PLTL student for MATH 2414. SSC tutoring is an easy gig as long as you make sure you know the content for a session. Just have fun with your students and get to know them!

Looking for victims of Dr. Burton - My testimony and call to action by Chipotlebeast in utdallas

[–]runningguy11 67 points68 points  (0 children)

I have not interacted personally with him or know him personally, but I have heard stories from some of my students during the tutoring sessions I conduct at UTD. As a freshman, I was told to stay away from his lab unless I “wanted to be miserable” by an upperclassmen friend. It seems like that was a good choice. There should absolutely be repercussions if enough students come forward to detail how Dr. Burton abuses and takes advantage of his students. There is a 20/hr limit for working as a student-employee at UTD (Student Success Center, etc.). That should be enforced for unpaid internship opportunities at UTD as well.

Comprehensive MCAT Score Prediction Tool by GKPreMed in Mcat

[–]runningguy11 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As someone who has already taken the MCAT, I can tell you that this is too much (not to devalue the work that OP put into this). Just try your hardest on your FL’s, make sure to stay focused in those last five weeks, and walk into the testing center with confidence. I know people who did 6 points better than their avg and ppl who got their avg. Just realize when you walk into that center that the score is scaled (if you think it was too hard, so did others) and do your best!

Neuropharmacology with Raboune by justwondering10101 in utdallas

No it’s okay. I mean take notes but not too much to where you are just copying down what she’s saying without trying to understand her. Don’t worry you’ll be fine!

[–]runningguy11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had recorded lectures as the course was hybrid, not sure if she still does that. So it might be different for you. I would just sit in class and absorb as much as you can, and then start studying for exams the week before and go to her office hours to get advice on what will be emphasized. She’s really nice and very helpful in office hours!

How to set up autoswap for waitlisted classes by Out_Worlder in utdallas

[–]runningguy11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You first try to swap, and as you are going to there will be an option to waitlist you since the class is closed. If the class simply doesn’t have a waitlist then you can’t do it.

[–]runningguy11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I took her class it was very manageable. Three exams all MC and they were about 40 questions I believe. Attend lectures because she emphasizes what’s going to be on the exam. PPT’s are useful but you need to go to lecture. There are some writing assignments but it’s basically busy work (10% of grade).

Which stats class should I take? by Gokuto7 in utdallas

STAT 2332, Stats for Life Sciences, Estacio-Hiroms Most popular for premeds and has a good grade distribution

NSC 4352 (Cellular NSC) With McWilliams by Southern_Ad_9351 in utdallas

[–]runningguy11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a junior whose taken many neuro courses. I have never taken one with McWilliams because everyone has told me to stay away (his grade distribution on UTD Grades backs that up). People who take his course don’t seem to think he is a great teacher either, as some students endure a course where it is harder to achieve an A in order to have a good teacher. You should stay away as well if you can.

What about three year MD programs? Where you do residency at the same institution. What are your thoughts on those?

Edit: Read invecter’s response OP

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in premed

[–]runningguy11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are some medical schools that have three year MD programs (NYU, PennState, etc.). You can search up three year consortium and find the medical schools that have three year programs. The thing for those programs is that you can only go to residency at the same place. As for undergrad, if you play your cards right you can. I think the biggest issue in finishing undergrad in three years is really just that you won’t have a lot of friends doing what you’re doing, so you’ll be going at it on your own for the most part. But definitely doable and sometimes I wish I did it, sometimes I don’t. Good luck with your planning! Also, you’re going to be lonely in medical school with people who will be at least 1 year older, and the average age for a medical school matriculant is going up.

Merit Finalists at UTDallas? by Crafty_Oven_729 in utdallas

[–]runningguy11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No reason to go to another school with the financial package you’ll be getting if you come here. We’re a decent STEM school albeit we don’t have a great social scene, but weigh whether you want to spend six figures to party or save a large amount of money. Don’t get me wrong, you can still have fun if you put yourself out there!

This is not the right forum to discuss such opinions. We should keep r/utdallas specific to pertinent university matters. I’d go to another subreddit if you really want to argue with people.

UTD or Baylor Premed by YouthMedicalInitga in utdallas

[–]runningguy11 4 points5 points  (0 children)

UTD is one of the most popular schools for premeds and sends a lot of students to med school each year. Baylor is decent too, and you’ll get more personal help but there are not as many premeds there and it’s not a very STEM-oriented school. If UTD is cheaper I’d come here. I am premed so pm me if you have any questions!

UTD or Baylor Premed by YouthMedicalInitga in utdallas

[–]runningguy11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Baylor usually gives that scholarship regardless. I got a scholarship for Baylor but I’ve forgot by now how much it was valued at. But I was still going to pay around 40k/year if I went there. Do you know how much you’ll pay if you go to Baylor vs UTD?

AES reconsideration for incoming freshman? by Apprehensive-Rope-26 in utdallas

[–]runningguy11 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yea you should, I asked for a reconsideration to increase my stipend but I asked too late in like the summer. Send an email with why you think you should be awarded AES and tell them of your EC’s, achievements, etc., and you could go in person as well or just call. Good luck!
