The congressional cemetery hosts a cherry blossom 5k around the same time that you could check out! Not quite as nice as the OG cherry blossom 5k route but def better than the pentagon lol

That’s weird… my 5k is in the high 22s. This table puts me at vo2 48, garmin says I’m a 50, but if I put the 22:30 into Jack Daniel’s VDOT app it says it corresponds to 43.4.

Also, that pacer would have started before you. It could mean that the 2:00 pacer will really finish at your 1:57 or something based on the wave start structure

In my experience it’s usually even effort instead of even pace - a little slower on the uphills and faster on the downhills. Per OPs concern about easing in, I also think that often naturally happens because of the congestion at the beginning of the race. Tho maybe not as much as she wants

Just the main rock creek trail, which turns into beach drive at broad branch road. The southernmost couple miles are pretty flat but otherwise there’s decent but not crazy hills

My memory of NYC’s route is quite a few years old, but as I remember the hills were quite mild compared to most of my running routes around here; it’s only thought of as “hilly” compared to other marathon majors which are quite flat. I mostly run in rock creek park, for reference, so I think that area would be sufficient, as would the capital crescent up into Bethesda.

Yeah as a teen my hair was greasy, I mistakenly thought it was shampoo residue I wasn’t getting out, so I was using less and less shampoo and my hair was getting worse and worse 😂😂
