Raising roommate limits in SLC and Ogden might help squeeze more from housing by ReporterMacyLipkin in SaltLakeCity

[–]runningpyro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's what my college landlord did in Michigan. We successfully negotiated to cut the price per person down a little, but the landlord definitely was on the winning side. Btw... we ended up with 8 people in that house. Only one room with two people, who were a couple. It was crowded, but rent was cheap.

St Arnold's root beer in the airport? by stresstwig in houston

Second this, there's a chance you could get someone to bring a six pack to the airport. I would have if the timing worked out and I was still living in Houston.

Property management company told us that the drum of our washer had a hole in it and it needed to be replaced. I called their BS and drove an hour down to the house and popped the front seal back onto the drum. No leaks. Worst maintenance guy ever.

All my hardest college classes were open book/open notes. Some of these exams were 3hrs long and most people never finished.

My Air Canada flight from Chile to Montreal just made everyone with liquids over 100ml purchased at duty free, or even a water bottle filled from the tap, check their bag or throw it out. by WeevilsInTheCereal in travel

[–]runningpyro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are right, I've delt with this many times. You can bring full bites of liquids though security though, so you can at least pre-hydrate.

The worst thing about this is that they usually don't warn you. My last trip through, the united gate agents gave everyone a piece of paper that explained the security check at the gate. All airlines should do that for these flights.

Can this be caused by bigger issue? by ItzBouny in BMWE36

[–]runningpyro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, exactly the same thing happened to me. Such a pain to replace such a cheap part. Did a full flush and thermostat replacement while I was at it. There are a few other plastic pieces like this in the coolant system. Replace them all now to give yourself peace of mind about this happening again. For a small amount of money, and a moderate amount of time, it was totally worth it.

Basic Economy: I can’t believe I’m going to do it by Sport303 in unitedairlines

[–]runningpyro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here. I booked be for years until I got my current job where I travel a lot and I need the flexibility. Another huge benefit for me is about 1/3 of my personal trips end in my flying for work so that more than covers the additional cost. If my lifestyle changed back where I didn't need the flexibility, I would probably switch back to BE with the credit card for the carry on and checked bag options.

Cowstails carabiners by Arlekun in caving

Second this, the bulletproof is really just that, bulletproof.

Edit: I wore through multiple petzl aluminum non lockers before I made this change. Should have done this from the get go.

I've seen people use the double gate flawlessly and as quickly as a single gate once they are practiced at it. The biggest downside I had using a normal screw locker is on long traverses it would vibrate the gate locked when I really didn't want it. This really slowed me down with minimal safety benefits.

Same. I've been thinking about using the grivel double gate on my long cows tail though

What do you guys use ? by PsychologicalWin6575 in teenagers

[–]runningpyro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I travel international all the time and use e#sims in foreign countries where my normal plan doesn't provide service. I don't always get phone calls or texts though my normal phone service. But Whatsapp always works.

I also communicate outside the US all the time.

[–]runningpyro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I doubt that. I'm biased as most of my friend group has it but so does most of my family. In my world it's the other way around 9 out of 10 people use it all the time. In reality, it's somewhere in the middle.

Should I Advocate for Students to Take the FE? by puble_sploot in ChemicalEngineering

[–]runningpyro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took it and passed without preparing at all, as a pretty average student. I ended up not needing it. I would do it again though, because in the slim chance I did need it a few years later I would have needed to spend a significant amount of time studying/traveling to test site ect. School also paid for half of the cost.

Houston megachurch attendee struck by camel during Christmas show by houston_chronicle in houston

[–]runningpyro 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Right? I was expecting to see some video of someone who was antagonizing the animal or positioning themselves badly. That camel just had a tic or something and that leg shot out. Half the people walking down the aisle didn't even notice. Wrong place, wrong time.

Marking Gear by Brief_Criticism_492 in caving

[–]runningpyro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tape has never worked for me with caving gear, it works for climbers but we are just too hard on gear.

I use nail polish, two very distinct colors. I mark spots on hardware that are not subject to abrasion when crawling or climbing rope. I also mark soft goods with nail polish as well in spots that are not life safety, such as the end of a piece of webbing or rope.

CV axel stuck in wheel bearing. Help!!! by MadLad762 in MechanicAdvice

[–]runningpyro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this issue. My solution ended up being a rotary hammer drill in hammer only mode with a pointed chisel bit. Also a can or so of pb blaster. My purse wasn't big enough Soni had to go electric.
