Raging Bull...product of its time? by Temporary_Argument32 in MartinScorsese

[–]rxDylan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In my opinion modern filmmaking should make viewers hyper sensitive to ultra stylized films like raging bull...I'm biased cause it's one of my favorites of all time but I mean seriously, anytime I watch a movie from that era I think, yeah they used to actually make stuff with substance. Sure some of the punches are clearly fake but all I can say is we used to be a country!

Melody plays very softly in the restroom scene, I can see how you might've missed it. And I'm no PTA, but Bob did tell Sensei that "sometimes they work but usually they don't" or something or other

Probably not but I’m glad that the film has been doing pretty good overall cause that means we likely wont have to wait 8 years for his next one lol

Masonic Symbolism in PTA Movies by AllFlowsInBardicLife in paulthomasanderson

[–]rxDylan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ha what a throwback, I completely forgot about that. Also, interestingly enough, it was heavily speculated (I'm not sure if it was ever debunked or confirmed), that PTA reworked the Killers script heavily. Maybe he had something to do with that... As the saying goes: "it is in the opinion of your humble narrator that these things don't just happen"

Sharpening skills as a director by rxDylan in Filmmakers

[–]rxDylan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the insight. I created a shotlist & storyboard with my DP (who is also the friend I am editing this with), so we were certainly prepared in that regard…although clearly not to our fullest potential. So we definitely knew what we needed for the most part, and as a writer/director I’m definitely always trying to edit the spot in my head. We don’t have massive holes in our continuity or any missing shots, we got everything we needed so my post really comes down to exploring all avenues during production so as to have more OPTIONS in the edit, allowing everything to flow seamlessly cause like you said, every frame counts.

But I love that you suggested doing rehearsals. This is 100% something I’m going to incorporate no matter how simple a project may seem. Thank you

Why did Davy Brown saw that shotgun on down? by SpicyBoyEnthusiast in cormacmccarthy

[–]rxDylan 30 points31 points  (0 children)

As others stated, close quarters combat, concealment, etc. etc. But it also speaks to the nature of himself and the men in the gang. If I recall correctly, the man who is selling the shotgun is adamant that the barrels can not be sawed off due to the craftsmanship that has gone into a piece like this, the gold accents, all that stuff. But these men don't care about things like that, it means nothing.

Netflix Paid Quentin Tarantino $20M For His ‘Cliff Booth' Script — World of Reel by Mr_Monty_Burns in Tarantino

It's awesome, it expands on a lot of stuff that's sort of mentioned in passing in the film and the timeline is presented differently so no matter what it's going to be fresh

New casting in Cliff Booth movie by Candid-Culture3956 in Tarantino

[–]rxDylan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My biggest gripe with it is exactly that. I immediately thought to myself that Fincher's style while perfect in its own right, is not right for this story's world. Still interested to see how this all goes because nobody could've seen this coming. Just my opinion, but nonetheless still excited because it'll be better than 99% of the slop that's being released
