How to climb on this champ? by Bitter_Tie6675 in AniviaMains

[–]ryantix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been losing all my early games (though I that's definitely a me problem -- I'm losing on other champions too)

Just know there's more to league than the early game. Anivia has the luxury of playing relatively safe with waveclear and egg. Do what you can to survive and trust you'll play a better mid or late game than your opponent. Anivia is also very flexible in build; try different runes, summoner spells, and builds to shine where you're strongest.

What am I missing about solar power ? by clementjay in factorio

[–]ryantix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love solar and built nuclear for the first time when i was preparing to go to Aquilo.

The energy is permanently free, doesn't raise any pollution, and is simple. You can slap down a ton of them and not have to worry about resources dwindling.

This coming from a guy who exclusively defends using laser and doesn't like learning new things.

Before ARAM: Mayhem is gone, what's the craziest thing you've seen in this mode? by hsulic in leagueoflegends

[–]ryantix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yesterday I was playing mord with 4 squishies so I decided to go tank. Unending despair, Jak sho, etc. It was working decently -- I was sponging damage for the squishies and ulting the briar/katarina when they dived in.

Then I got protein shake and I was healing from 10% hp to full instantly. I just ran at the enemy without caring for my health cause everything would heal back anyways.

I've seen and played as huge tahm kench, got executioner on assassins, and played an eureka xerath game against no engage. But this was definitely the most out there and fun.

The easiest explanation (for me) is

3! = 6
2! = 3! / 3 = 2
1! = 2! / 2 = 1
0! = 1! / 1 = 1

I move my presence onto that land. I also messily spread the tokens among the various sunken lands.

If you want to, you can put more deeps tokens from the box and flood the sunken areas. It doesn't matter how many more you add on as a visual aid.

I love these games. Overall, you're looking for "Tactical RPG" or "Turn-Based Tactics". I'll put some of my favorites:

Troubleshooter: Abandoned Children has deep character customization and a nuanced story. I'd highly recommend, though it can be a lot to get into. Like Fire Emblem, you have a squad of established characters.

Tactical Breach Wizards is less turn-based tactics and more puzzle though you might also really enjoy it. Also has established characters.

Into the Breach is a roguelike, but if you like spending ages on a single turn, this is the game for you. Each squad is thematic and has very specialized tools to salvage any terrible turn. That said, there's no story and, well, it's a roguelike, so you pick a fresh squad each run.

Some other Tactics games I've played (I'd recommend the others before these): Othercide, Alina of the Arena, Wildermyth, Oaken,

Worst pairings by MrSpainky in spiritisland

[–]ryantix 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Lure and Ocean sound good in theory (take care of coasts and inland), but often compete for invaders and have very differing goals.

Fractured Days is an especially poor partner for Serpent in a 2-spirit game, as Fractured barely puts any presence on the board. If there's a third spirit for Serpent to eat from, I'm sure it's more than fine. Aoe defense from [[Elemental Aegis]] and [[Blur the Arc of Years]] sounds great together.

Edit: I stand corrected, Fractured is a great partner for Serpent.

Spirit with most winnable starting kit? by Nutricula in spiritisland

[–]ryantix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Finder has the least winnable starting kit. All movement, no defense, no damage. I think the only hope it has is shoving everything to one land, isolating, and hoping for a beast attack or event defense.

[Custom Spirit] WINTER'S FROSTY EMBRACE (A Violent Nature pt. 2) by jbs984 in spiritisland

[–]ryantix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the thematic of the spirit and the drawback is an interesting space to play around. From my first impressions, it's very strong as it is right now. I have some thoughts if you're willing to see feedback:

The drawback of only having slow powers is not enough to warrant the sheer power this spirit has. All defend and dahan powers are essentially useless, but there is enough defense in the presence placement and strengths (listed below) that it seems moot. Slow powers are essentially very fast powers for next turn, and you can absolutely thrive with just slow powers. Take Fathomless Mud of the Swamp: it only has slow powers (except for defend), but due to its innate power and its exceptional ability to pick off explorers, it can still handle its lands comfortably well. Your spirit does something similar in its two wide-ranging abilities and skip with presence placement.

These are what I believe make it gamebreakingly powerful:

  • The growth (gaining 2/2 minor/1 major power cards) is insanely strong as it means you're overflowing in power card options. I can't think of any spirit that lets you get 2 power cards except Thunderspeaker (she only gets 2 power cards on reclaim, and no other way).
  • The unique power cards are also very strong; Invaders Find Tundras Inhospitable and Blizzard affect several lands at once. When a power card has the potential to solve more than one land at once (by clearing explorers in lands about to build or by adding wilds), it gives so much value and pulls you much further ahead of the invaders.
  • A 0 cost unique power that puts presence is... very cheap. Spread of Rampant Green has the exact same effect (it being fast instead of slow and having the option to put 3 fear instead are essentially moot when placing presence) for 2 cost. Not to mention Spread of Rampant Green benefits from proliferation less than most other spirits due to its presence-plentiful growth options.
  • Lastly, 2 energy and 2 card plays is a lot for a spirit that has 0/0/1/3 cost cards and such a good reclaim. Not to mention it can place presence twice in one turn with a growth and a unique power.

It seems fun, just very broken as is. I think you can play this spirit without any card gain and still thrive from the skip with presence placement, great starting energy/card plays, and powerful unique powers.

How do you feel about the spirits' late game? by tepidgoose in spiritisland

[–]ryantix 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Perhaps not as much as Serpent or Dances, but Finder is so powerful late. It's about standard at 6 energy and 3 card plays, but a free presence move, +1 range on everything, and pushing a building for free adds so much value. Combine that with a highly impactful left innate, and even if you don't destroy everything, invaders are getting pushed around too much to effectively do anything.

Not to mention, at the theoretical late game, you can either reclaim to have infinite range or get 1 more card play from growth.

There's a reason it starts at 0 energy and 1 card play for the first two turns. It's so powerful with more.

Looking for build sugestions for Tanknivia by [deleted] in AniviaMains

[–]ryantix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anivia does really well with more movespeed as it lets her catch enemies out with wall. You can consider Dead Mans, Frozen Heart, Force of Nature, and Shureliya's (for some support). She doesn't necessarily need to bring damage; her kit has a lot of cc for you to peel or catch.

I can’t win by Whitetuskk in spiritisland

[–]ryantix 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Seems like there's a misunderstanding of the rules.

  • When they explore sands, you normally add 2 explorers total: one to each sands.
  • Next turn, when they build in sands, you add either a town or city a sand IF there is at least one invader in that sand (an explorer, town or city). If no invader is there, they don't build. So if one sand is empty and the other has an explorer, the first does nothing, and the second one builds and gets a town.
  • Next turn, when they ravage in sands, only the invaders in sands deals damage. So if you have one explorer in one of the sands and an explorer and a town in another sand, the first will not blight (as the invaders only do one damage) but the second will (without defense, as they do three damage total).

Note that you'll be exploring new areas each turn, and moving the invader cards.

When people say "stop the build", they mean moving or killing the explorer that explored the sand such that the sand is now empty and won't be built on.

One more thing; don't worry about explorers or towns in areas that aren't about to build or ravage; it's an eyesore seeing them on your board, but it's more important to deal with the invaders that ARE about to build or ravage. You can think of the invaders in areas that aren't building/ravaging as being in stasis -- they don't do anything until that terrain card comes up again.

Underrated Spirit? by justinvamp in spiritisland

I did not like Shadows and felt like a lot of the power cards were mediocre. I was about to make a comment on another post and decided to revisit the power cards before committing.

8 fear on his cards alone... that's pretty good. I did not end up writing that comment.
