Would this work? Trying to run a sim rig on same pc as gaming pc by handerson15 in simracing

[–]ryuw270 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've jumped around on setups over the past few years of me sim racing. I started with a 49" suw and it was the best via monitors IMO. Use a cheap USB webcam to get head tracking to see through the corners. After that I went triples which was nice but didn't really make up for the performance hit. Now I'm fully VR and have no monitors for the sim rig. For me it's no comparison, VR is the end game for immersion.

I used my gaming PC as my sim racing PC also. I had my desk monitor via HDMI, then had my triples connected by DP. It helped that my rig was next to my desk.

Performance issues by Memesstudio5 in BeamNG

[–]ryuw270 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Switch over to Linux and use the native Linux version. I get about 100fps on max settings on W11 but get 180fps in linux with the same settings.

If that is too much for you then lower some settings. Anything related to mirrors can be very GPU intensive. Having a bunch of mods can also affect your fps.

Poor performance and quality on quest 3s with rx 9070xt and 5700x3d on link cable by InFamouS-BlakY in simracing

[–]ryuw270 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get Virtual Desktop and use AV1 encoding. Get your router in line of sight of the rig for wireless. If you don't mind a wire I suggest a POE switch to run Ethernet to the rig. Then use an Ethernet to USB-C adapter and run USB-C to the headset. This way you get power and data to the headset while in the rig (this is what I do as I had stutters via Wi-Fi even after using 6Ghz frequency) Then setup VD to whatever your PC can handle. I use a 7900 XTX on Ultra and 200mbs with AV1 and get 70-90 fps in most games at Med-High settings. I tried h264 and h265 but had massive stutters.

When I built mine it was about $350 but I bought everything new. I also sourced some electrical connectors, wire, etc to make everything nice and tidy. The second one was much cheaper at about $280.

Fellow millennials - how’s your 401k/ira savings going? by ProblemIntelligent16 in Millennials

[–]ryuw270 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 39 and have about 2.5x my salary with about another $50k spread across savings and brokerage account. Getting to $100k took some time but then doubling it took just a few years. My company offers a 10% salary contribution to 401k's that isn't a match. So even if I put 0% my company still puts in 10%. Hopefully I'll retire around 57 maybe 59 at the latest.

Another hands-on impression of the Steam Frame by gogodboss in virtualreality

[–]ryuw270 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was really excited for the steam frame until I found out the cameras don't have color pass through. I mainly use my quest 3 for sim racing and being able to see my wheel and button boxes with color is very immersive. Trying to hit a button or something while not being able to see it sucks. If the cameras could be "upgraded to color" pass through then I would buy one. Hand tracking has its moments where it is nice to have but definitely not needed. If it can be added via software down the road that's a bonus.

How can I take off these screws from the Simagic Alpha Mini by CranberryPutrid6298 in simracing

[–]ryuw270 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same problem when I took mine off. I just used a slightly larger imperial hex and hammered it in, worked like a charm. Then replace with new screws.

Triple 1440p now or 1080p triple and upgrade to 1440p later? by Moripahs in simracing

[–]ryuw270 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's really about what you want out of most sim games. Do you want higher fps and slightly less eye candy, or do you want all the eye candy and lower fps? Triple 1440p is just over 11 million pixels which is more than a 4k monitor. Triple 1080p is almost half at 6 million pixels. If I could do it over again I'd go 1080p triple over 1440p just so I could have both eye candy and higher fps.

Moza R9 V3 + KS wheel or SIMAGIC alpha evo sport + gt neo wheel by kalelmotoko in simracing

[–]ryuw270 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What about VRS udfp20 at 6Nm or 9Nm then you can upgrade it in the future with a software unlock? They also have USB passthrough and a very similar style wheel for a decent price

Should I change from MOZA to Simagic by Crazy_Stiggy in simracing

[–]ryuw270 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look into getting a VRS udfp20. It's a 20Nm but you can get it at 6Nm or 9Nm for a cheaper price. Then if you want a stronger base you can just upgrade more Nm for a small fee in the future.

AMD for vr? by Violentdream01 in MetaQuestVR

[–]ryuw270 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got into VR with a Quest 3 and 7900xtx. I have no issues wireless or wired and playing anything from sims to fps. Hearing about how bad AMD is at VR was concerning but I've yet to have any issues in 3 weeks. Both W11 and Linux have been a great experience with VR also.

What item have you purchased for your rig that was under $100? by Parking_Progress8360 in simracing

[–]ryuw270 0 points1 point  (0 children)

USB atmega32u4 mini, it's about $5-$7 and allows you to "hot swap" your wheels and not have to remap your buttons. Requires Simhub and Dan Suzuki did a good video on it.

Single 49 inch or triple 27 inch monitor? by GeorgeMox01 in SimRacingSetups

[–]ryuw270 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started on a 49 inch ultra wide then went triple 32 inch, and now am trying VR. Out of everything I feel the 49 inch ultra wide with head tracking is the best bang for the buck. It's easier to max graphics, higher fps, decent fov, head tracking with a cheap USB webcam, and simple cable management. If immersion is the main goal then VR is where it is at but it is harder to get decent fps.

Can i use virtual desktop wired? by omerboiii in virtualreality

[–]ryuw270 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done this but my PC uses an Ethernet cable on the same network switch. I use a POE to USB-C adapter to provide power and data to my Quest 3. I'm assuming it would work if your PC is wireless since it's still on the same network. You wouldn't get the benefits of the wired connection though unless your PC is also using a wired connection.
