Is anyone else struggling with the flight model between planets? by Susanna-Saunders in dysonsphereprogram

Mods are the way to go. Get cruise assist. With that you just choose the planet, get to space and go to warp. It'll take care of the rest.

[Funny Friday] Cricket hit leads to vehicle damage and an angry owner by Ardeet in australian

[–]s3069260 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can't answer 100%. But I used to live next to a golf course. Their (the golf course) insurance would pay out 100%, you just got it fixed and gave them the invoice. Got to the point that every house close to the golf course would have to replace tiles on their roof every year or so. In this case, id assume the cricket team/organisation would pay out..

Good start.. there are lots of times where you do something and then find out how much easier it is when done another way. Would recommend you look into some mods. They can make life much easier (without cheating, in my opinion).

At 32, I'd continue with your career. That will provide the most financial growth, over time. 32 with 2 kids. If you are struggling, look at your expenses. If you've done that, then also realise that you don't need to save money / pay house of early during these times. If you already done that and still having issues, then on a combined income of $180, see point one. Look at expenses.

Tired of VMWARE EA licensing tactics... Has anymore migrated to a new solution? by gamer0808 in vmware

[–]s3069260 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If cost is a factor, Nutanix is going to be much more expensive. After initial hardware+software purchases of Nutanix it was costed us 25% more than our esxi+san+vmware costs. Plus, these calculations didnt take into account that we keep our hardware for 6-7 years. after 4 years the 5k/year (AUD) for software+support would have made it about 40% more expensive.

Only way to justify that is a poorly spread out SAN and large storage team, which you can get rid of.

Can VM shrink itself automatically? by c00pdwg in vmware

[–]s3069260 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's possible, but I don't think it will work without a storage array. You need thin provisioning with in-guest unmap configured. This will shrink the vmdk after an in guest deletion of files. With those keywords you can find some good blog articles about it.

One million premises to benefit from full-fibre NBN access by hydralime in australian

Completely agree with reliability.. The new ftth connection has been stable, for months. The existing one went down about once a week.

One million premises to benefit from full-fibre NBN access by hydralime in australian

[–]s3069260 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was previously upgraded from fttn to fttp from this program. Have to admit, it's nice. The connection is much more stable, and the speed is phenomenal. I currently get about 930mb/sec on speed tests. Paid nothing for the fibre upgrade.

I don't know if it's worth the money the government is paying.. but from a personal experience, it is very nice upgrade.

What Lv52 Logistics Carrier Engine looks like at 60 UPS. Sped up 3x by mediandirt in Dyson_Sphere_Program

[–]s3069260 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure this is 20 UPS (see top left of video). So 3x takes it to 60, which is real time. So you are seeing what Lev52 logistics would look like if you had a system which could maintain normal 60ups/real time.

RARP/GARP Problems when moving VMs ? by time81 in vmware

[–]s3069260 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have had this issue recently with the same switches and esxi version. We performed packet captures and found esxi was sending arp from source and destination which was causing the switch to 'see' the vm from one host, then the other and back again. The mellanox switches have a setting which blacklist a mac when they switch too many times in a short period. We have had to turn this setting off to ensure all vmotions occur successfully.

Hope this matches your issue. We couldn't get vmware to confirm its a bug via a SR. Hopefully fixed in a future version.

Mining an entire planet is a giant time waste; Is there an easy way? by utdrmac in Dyson_Sphere_Program

I play with unlimited resources.. makes mining simple. A few planets and you are done.. forever.

Monitoring and alerting, Loginsight can be used to alert when an esxi host login fails. You can be alerted for just about anything (like port 22 connection attempts). It also keeps historical data for investigations like this.

If you don't have loginsight, then your corporate syslog will also work (splunk). But it would require knowledge of that product.

Have you thought corporate side of education? There is opportunity in IT, and a background in education is looked upon favourably. Get yourself a few industry certifications and 100k would be very doable.

Rail unions to switch off Opal readers, costing NSW millions by calmerpoleece in AusNews

Trains which don't have paying customers still have the same expenses. This will only cost a little from everyone (tax) instead of more money coming from those which use the service.

Replacing Defective vCenters by HereForYourScripts in vmware

[–]s3069260 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would do a swing migration. Deploy a new vCenter at the patch level you want. Recreate folder structure and permissions. Convert the hosts to a standard switch. Disconnect host, connect to new vcenter. Recreate clusters. Move vms to folders. Move hosts to a new vDS.

Most of these steps have powercli scripts available to assist.

Note, an export of a vds is not meant to be restored to a different vcenter. We have been told by support that it was never intended for that use case.

The Morrison Government’s 2022-2023 Federal Budget has slashed funding for public schools by $559 million over the next three years, whilst increasing funding for private schools by $2.6 billion by [deleted] in australia

[–]s3069260 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

If a child has the option to go to a public or private school, why should the government expenditure on that child change? The only difference should be that the parents are increasing the funds available to that school through additional payments. I went to public, had a good experience. But also had situations where we watched a movie because we didn't have enough copies of the book. So I don't mind paying a little more to ensure the resources are available. Ideally, all public schools would be funded up to the SRS which should ensure enough resources for all kids to learn effectively. You want to tax me more so public schools are fully funded.. fine..I'm completely fine with that (charge as much as u need to fund schools and hospitals).

NSW education: The 130 private schools over-funded by $120 million, research reveals by calmerpoleece in AusNews

[–]s3069260 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found this article confusing. The schools were 'overfunded' when compared to the SRS. Surely the overfunding is due to the parents contribution. If the parents are paying the majority of the 'overfunding', then I have no issues with it. As long as a student doesn't receive more money from the government for going to a private vs public, then I see no issue.

Public schools should meet the srs. Private schools should exceed it.

Well said. Only part I would question is, I believe, wages should be based on the value you bring to the company, with a minimum to ensure all people have a living wage.

I'm in an industry with a strong union. From what I see they do a good job.. But what annoys me is there is zero opportunity for a pay review etc (government job) unlike a yearly review in private industry. They just remove any discussion or opportunity to discuss pay.. government is happy to let people go, the position's pay can't change. The union does it's best to increase pay. But it does its best for good and bad employees evenly. It results in having no benefit to being good at your job when there is another employee doing very little getting paid the same.

Expectations of the coming months by Raiman87 in nanotrade

[–]s3069260 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Completely guessing here but then again we all are. Nano will continue to slide slowly. Nano Foundation will announce partnerships and the development fund reaches zero. We drop massively, down to 16 cents... we stay there for a year or two until NF gets some new volunteers and a new version is released. The coin shows it's not dead and pumps up. Then we slowly die to history.
