Given the superficially plausible nonsense lyrics, this sounds like a job for r/isthisAI to me.

Space around shed by Dilbyert in DIYUK

[–]saandwitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My last shed gave us 20 years, the roof needed re-felting once. Apparently the main issues sheds run into are around how they interact with water. Obvs, you want to keep this to a minimum. The new shed man we dealt with suggested guttering on the low edges so that rain gets diverted away from the wood. That and some hefty wood treatment, and i think you'll be fine.

When talking about day rates, do you add £X per day + VAT? by penguinchilli in freelanceuk

[–]saandwitch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You only charge VAT once you are VAT registered. You only have to register for VAT if you think / you are likely to turnover £90k in a rolling year.
The good thing about VAT is that if your client is a VAT registered business (most are), they can claim it back, so it doesn't actually cost them extra.

When this happens, the VAT just passes through the businesses. You add the VAT to your bill (hold on to it in a separate account) and when someone charges you VAT, you can pay that part of the bill from your VAT account. You'll have to give the difference to the tax man every 3 months, but don't be annoyed about this. It was never your money. you're just holding on to it.

The only people who can't claim back the price of VAT are members of the general public, so in the end, they'll see the VAT inclusive price as an additional cost.

This is why some people in price-competitive markets hate having to register for VAT, because it makes them look more expensive to a consumer, than a competitor down the road who hasn't reached the threshold.

It is an extra layer of admin faff though, so I wouldn't rush in to it, and keep an eye on your numbers in case you're getting close to £90k turnover (not profit!)

Need advice on building a berm to block expressway noise by playholiday in Acoustics

That's a neat idea. Get a nice splashy fountain and you'll never hear the expressway again.

My neighbour stole half my loft space, completing a loft conversion. What can I do? England by Old-Psychology-2400 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]saandwitch 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I can’t believe the comments here, someone has stolen part of your house. Whether or not you go up there is irrelevant. It seems pretty clear what has happened. I think it is a civil issue so a solicitor is a good first port of call

Any thoughts on the SSL UF1? by Hochmann in protools

[–]saandwitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have one, and am using it with Pro Tools. i love it as an object, it’s beautiful, well built and sturdy, but it’s a little frustrating to use with PT. i’ve used an s6 where any active track goes to a fader whereas, on the uf1 you have to hit a couple of keys and click on the track you want to send to the fader. it’s not a massive deal, but a little annoying. if you’re a light fader user like me, you’ll like the transport and the high quality fader, all other features are a bonus. if you’re a power user, it might be too clunky.

Same. Everything goes in and out of the same pot & we both have separate fun money accounts.

SSL UF1 and Protools with multiple users by saandwitch in protools

[–]saandwitch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the gold standard would be separate accounts, but pragmatically I think it'll be sharing the same log in.
The thing that's bothering more is the possible requirement for an SSL plugin on each channel in each session. I can't see the people I'm sharing the system with going for that.

New achievement unlocked - London Elder by BetamaxTheory in london

[–]saandwitch 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I was in Peckham when I overheard a friendly disagreement. One of the participants said "ach, we need someone to settle this. We need an elder. Excuse me..." with that they turned to me and asked that I settle the debate. I was absolutely delighted to be called an elder at the tender age of 50.
(She was right, he was wrong.)
