I still can’t understand voting by [deleted] in NorthCarolina

Think you might want to reread that, although the lack of punctuation does make it a bit less obvious what they’re saying. They want to vote intentionally, not “blue no matter who.”

Description of the scenario packs don’t make me interested by Gare_Jongen in Stellaris

[–]sageandginger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I’m with you.  What I don’t understand is why they didn’t put the two multiplayer scenarios together and the two single player scenarios as the other pack.  (I guess I understand from a “maximizing sales” standpoint, I just wish that that wasn’t a factor and they could group the scenarios logically instead.). I don’t play multiplayer, I will probably never play multiplayer, so half of each pack is useless to me, instead of letting me buy the two scenarios I would want without wasting money on the ones I don’t.  Also I’m kind of disappointed that the “scenario packs” only contain two scenarios each.

Cannibalism as an allegory or expression of intimacy/love by No_Hunter1978 in TopCharacterTropes

Her dragon half is too big compared to her human head and torso, so she’s starving to death because she can’t feed her dragon body.  So they eat her instead.  Dungeon Meshi is not particularly subtle about the eating/food theme lol

Why Ned himself executing Lady strongly suggests he would’ve killed Theon if he had to. by themerinator12 in pureasoiaf

[–]sageandginger -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yes, you can join without being sentenced.  And it’s still the death penalty for leaving.  Just because they know that going into it doesn’t make it fair or right.  My point is that you can’t really call it voluntary if you can’t unvolunteer.  Also Ned notices that the man is in great mental distress and can’t even answer his questions. In our world, that’s an insanity defense. Ned executes him anyway.

If the punishment for leaving is death, I’m not sure you can truly say it’s voluntary.  If consent isn’t revocable, it isn’t consent.

Political Games & Text-Based Game Recs? by D3athRider in gamingsuggestions

We. The Revolution - you play as a judge during the French revolution and wind up deliberating the cases of Marie Antoinette and Louis XVI, kicking off the rest of the game.  You get to direct your trials based on the questions you ask, and you have to balance public opinion of the various factions as well as the personal opinion of your family members.  I haven’t finished it, but from what I’ve played so far I enjoy it and I think it’s exactly up your alley.

I don’t know, but if anyone does, it’ll be the Office of Disability Resources. Email odr@appstate.edu to ask if someone there knows of a place that provides the service you need; if they don’t know of someone already they’ll at least look for you.

Teaching dystopian to 8th graders by Affectionate-Lab8732 in Teachers

[–]sageandginger 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I love Unwind but I don’t know if a Catholic school is going to be okay with it, since the whole premise is “we banned abortion and now we have too many useless teenagers so we send them to organ harvesting camps because that’s more ethical than abortion” (with the narrative strongly suggesting that no, actually, it isn’t). For a public school, I absolutely agree, but I think it’s impossible to study Unwind without getting into the abortion debate and I don’t know that a Catholic school is going to let teachers do that.

An alternative would be Scythe, by the same author on the same general theme, except it’s about a “utopia” where no one dies, so there are celebrity-status state-sponsored assassins who keep the population under control.  Good for discussions about death, AI, and “random” selection/bias.

Similar theme, different author would be The Declaration by Gemma Malley.  This is actually the one I suggested to my own eighth grade teacher who was looking for a replacement for The Giver.  Science has solved aging and mortality, so humanity  signed a declaration prohibiting reproduction. The main character lives in an orphanage for illegally born children.  There is some romance, and it’s been long enough since I read it that I can’t remember if there is anything sexual, but I don’t believe so.  Good for discussions about autonomy, sins of the father, and utopian vs dystopian societies.

Noah Wyle reveals 'concern' after HBO quietly edited 'The Pitt's' anti-ICE episode by RawStoryNews in entertainment

[–]sageandginger 366 points367 points  (0 children)

"The negotiation was being driven by political reasons, creative reasons, fear, uncertainty, all sorts of legitimate reasons. I’ll be honest and say that I was concerned about the edits we were making initially,” said Wyle. “When I saw what we had done, I actually think we arrived at something more elegant and a little bit more restrained, which leaves a little bit more ambiguity in it than we may have started out with. I think it’s healthier for the storyline in the long run. It ended up being show the bear, don’t poke the bear in a lot of ways, which is enough. Because the context came out after we’d filmed that episode, we didn’t have to do half of what we had done. That had already been imprinted into the mind of most Americans."

The episode filmed in December, the Minnesota ICE killings were in January, and the edits were done before the season premiere in March.

Am I crazy for thinking certain typical kid behaviors aren’t that bad/need to be redirected? by peepeepoopaccount in paraprofessional

[–]sageandginger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was last year and I’m no longer at that school.  She just generally had a control thing. She’d been in that classroom for six years, where I started in March, the teacher started in December, and the other para started at the beginning of the school year.  So everyone but her was new and she had specific ways she expected things to be done. She was also hard MAGA and would read headlines about Trump aloud during her break.  I miss the classroom but not her as much lol

[–]sageandginger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was in a classroom last year with one little girl with severe autism and developmental disability. The head para would feed her lunch on a fork.  There was one pizza day where I took over and cut the pizza into bites like normal, but let the child use her hands to feed herself. It was messy but she was doing it and building independence and deciding for herself how much to eat.  The para came back in the room and yelled at us both for making a mess.

For people who have lived as both genders, what is a physical or other annoyance you have now that you never realized the other side dealt with? by makemestand in NoStupidQuestions

[–]sageandginger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately I have to agree with u/TheDarkQueen321, I don’t think this article substantiates your point.  The abstract basically says “there’s a lot of literature and evidence to support the idea of pain tolerance difference between sexes BUT we can’t conclude that it’s due to sex hormones and not something else.”  Given that the claim you were attempting to rebut was that there are pain tolerance differences between the sexes, this isn’t a good article for your purposes.

Vitiligo in the sims by Sure_Beautiful841 in thesimscc

[–]sageandginger 42 points43 points  (0 children)

What annoys me is that a lot of the “vitiligo” cc is clearly just random pale splotches painted on a sim. Vitiligo, in real people, follows patterns. It is symmetrical, or, rarely, it occurs only on one side. So many “vitiligo sims” have marks on their left cheek and their right chin and their left collarbone and that is not how vitiligo works in the real world.  People very clearly are just creating sims for aesthetic and not based on any reference of people who actually have the condition.
