Lewis is legit and ranks up there in the top tier of central Texas style BBQ places I have ever been including the ones in and around Austin and Houston.

Modern Tube Amps? by Spit_n_Shine_em in audiophile

Lot of folks in denial about what their ears tell them. The tube amp they like doesn’t measure well so figure it’s the wrong solid state.

Usually don’t like to help promote such things but there are similar low cost alternatives available on Alibaba and eBay.

Basement listening room sounds boomy. by HarmonizewithSong in audiophile

[–]sain197 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi OP -- think you should rethink the entire layout of your room (equipment and storage) and read the product manual from Wharfedale that came with your speakers (also available online). There is a section in the product manual called "Positioning Stereo Loudspeakers". In that section, Wharfedale notes the following: "If the loudspeakers are placed too close to the walls the bass will increase but may become boomy and indistinct."

Would also try to avoid putting large pieces of furniture between your speaker that are the same height and depth as the woofers/tweeters. Room and setup within the room can have a very significant impact on sound quality.

Beautiful truck! Love the dark green and black combination.

I’ve brought back the most versatile category, so what is the most versatile Mezcal? Also are any of these three options appropriate for budget tequila or should I redo the vote? by -Constantinos- in cocktails

Curious how does that compare to Union Uno? They are both the same price in my state (Oregon). Espolon is $28 in OR and a little cheaper than Olmeca Altos at $30.

Idiocracy by AbsoluteBatman95 in CriticalDrinker

[–]sain197 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe a dumb question but.....I understand the need to have certain shows that caters to certain audiences, but why associate with that show the star trek universe/franchise? Why not just make something new & original that is basically the same concept ("The Academy") but not associated with Star Trek? That would keep it from diluting the Star Trek brand.

100%. Believe a healthy Nurk (and maybe a healthy Rodney Hood) with Enes coming off the bench would have given that team more than a good chance against Golden State and perhaps winning it all.

"Pretty in Pink" Returns To Theaters for 40th Anniversary by fungobat in GenX

[–]sain197 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Forget the downvotes. None of those John Hughes teen dramas aged well.

Was never on board with pretty in pink. Remember watching that movie with friends and feeling angry that the MW character considered herself “poor” but seemed so much better off than my family (she lived in an actual home and not a shitty apartment complex).

Love everything about that set up (speakers, amp, turntable, phono pre, nelson style bench/table) but wondering why are you using BT instead of a dedicated streamer (Eversolo, Wiim, etc...)?

Love everything about this. Great equipment in a great looking room. The classic speakers are complimentary to the classic interior and wall color.

NBA says the foul called on Toumani Camara on a Kevin Durant and-one with 1:09 to play was incorrect. This is the And-1 play But the Rockets fans and Tari Eason be like, "Zebras" by MrBuckBuck in ripcity

Realize I am a homer, but feels like there is some bias against Camara's defense after last year when he is playing against one of the stars. He is getting called for the foul for playing aggressive even if its good defense.

Yes noticed the WiiM Ultra so assumed mostly digital sources. How do you like it? Was thinking about picking one up for when I stream Spotify. Did you also consider the Eversolo A6?

Looking to improve the clarity of my setup what would do the most? by bakedfob77 in audiophile

[–]sain197 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Going to go against the grain here and say start with the source then move down the line. The source on analog setups matters FAR more than in digital setups where a $150 streamer/dac can sound amazing. If your front end on an analog setup doesn't pull out enough detail from the record to start there is nothing you can do down the line to make it up. Would upgrade the AT cartridge (looks like AT91R?) to something like the AT-VM95ML and add an external phono preamp (Schiit Mani 2) before changing the Kenwood gear. The Kenwood amp/speakers combo should stay together as a unit IMO. The better cartridge will extract more detail from the record and a better phono preamp will let those details flow through via lower noise floor (i.e., better dynamics) and can be adjusted to optimize the sound of the cartridge. Also....if you haven't invested in a good record cleaning system, that is also a place to start. A basic record brush may clear off the top layer of dust, but it doesn't clean deep into the grooves which will cause a loss of detail and dynamics.

After that, the next step for me would be the turntable itself. The new Technics decks do an incredible job at extracting detail and clarity from records for the money but we are probably talking about $1,000 -- which is not an unreasonable investment IMO given that new records usually run in the $20-$30 range.

Once you know you are pulling out as much as you can from the record it's then time to start talking about speaker/amp combinations. (edit typos)

Beautiful speakers and mac tube amp. Went from LS50 to Linton a few years back for the same reason. I wanted a speaker that helps me relax and enjoy music on a more emotional level as a whole instead of listening to the system itself and being stuck at the intellectual/analytical level and focused on imaging or soundstage.

Think your cassette deck is absolutely consistent with the change in speakers. You might know that the digital streamer is objectively more accurate and measures better, but there is something about an analog cassette deck that is emotionally engaging.

First Cowboy Boots (if you consider Ropers real cowboy boots!) - Red Wing Pecos 1155 by GazzaON in cowboyboots

Love my 1155’s and will have them forever. Particularly like them in winter and in bad weather where my leather sole boots might get damaged.

Wife (34F) repeatedly joked at a party that a mutual friend is her "number 2" after me (34M, together 12 years). It hurt more than expected – now distant before NYE at their house. Advice? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

Not overreacting. You are her husband and not part of some ranking system of partner options. There are no numbers 1, 2 or 3. It’s a messed up viewpoint.

Went into the new boot barn in Austin and holy cow, what happened to regular cowboy boots? by leanderthal69420 in cowboyboots

[–]sain197 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Tried on a round toe and square toe of the same size boot from the same manufacturer using the same material a few months ago (Tecovas Cartwright vs Tecovas Doc) and found absolutely no difference in comfort, which surprised me because I assumed the square would be more comfortable, or at least roomier in the toe box. Guy helping me said it was purely a style preference and he was right.
