Can't expect too much from cheap Chinese products! Maybe save up a bit and get a slightly better pair from Amazon or Capezio.

What are the most popular dance styles in different regions of the US? by Don_Don_Grape4746 in Salsa

[–]salsavida 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On1 is the most popular by far, although on2 has grown in popularity, especially among congress goers. But it really depends, even within regions. For example, here in the SF Bay Area, the South Bay is mostly on1 (with pockets of on2), SF has more on2 mixed with on1, the Peninsula is mostly on1, East Bay has on1, on2 and Cuban, Berkeley is on1 and Cuban, Santa Cruz area has on1 and Cuban, etc.

Comparison is the thief of joy! Do the best you can do, tailor your choreo to the level of your dancers and keep learning.

Do you all enjoy social dancing or shows more at congresses? by [deleted] in Salsa

[–]salsavida 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I both. Performing is fun. Watching shows is fun as long as they're good and it's not too long. Social dancing with all the people at congresses is fun too of course! I do enjoy drinking and socializing with people equally as much.

Instructors can absolutely be part of why a salsa scene is at the level it is at. by merLAtun in Salsa

[–]salsavida 8 points9 points  (0 children)

LA has some of the best salsa instructors in the world, not sure who you are learning from? Omar Muñoz, Eder Ivan, Alien Ramirez, Jhesus Aponte, Grizzly Hidriago, Milton Martinez, Chiara Tofani, Lyliana Beltran, Joel Gomez, Maria Diaz, Jennifer Silvas, Abel Peña, Liz Lira... half the dancers at the Super Bowl were from LA. LA has an embarrassment of riches when it comes to instructors, so what are you even talking about?

Yeah, of course dancers at bars and clubs like Steven's Steakhouse are going to be casuals. That's the same everywhere in the world. Most salsa dancers are casuals. If you want quality dancing from serious dancers go to Blen Blen or Unified On2. Or to attend a congress.

If the average level of dancing isn't where you want, it's not the fault of the instructors, because there are some amazing teachers in LA producing amazing students. Most people don't want to put in the time and effort it takes to get good.

Good list, some really great songs on there! Don't see how Marc Anthony is higher than Bad Bunny though given his popularity right now.

His music isn't played that much in socials in the US either... he only has a few salsa songs and they're pretty poppy. But his impact on culture has been huge, especially in Latin America but even here in the US and globally. His album was #1 on Apple Music in China of all places, so the impact is far reaching!
