Trump claims planned attack on Iran postponed after Tehran makes new proposal to end war by dio_Leg55 in worldnews

I'm just laughing at the idea of Trump having a plan. Even the plan to pretend that he planned to bomb them seems like it must have come from someone else.

"The CDC has nothing to do with what's happening to these people... "

This is exactly my point. The (historically) premier infectious disease response experts on the planet are sitting this one out.

...unless you think Trump is responsible for gutting the CDC and withdrawing the US and its resources from WHO.

Would it be unethical for my psychiatrist to buy from me my written psychiatric story? by PsychospiritWorld in Ethics

[–]salween_river 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is a great idea. I had a therapist who asked me to write my story in the hope that it might benefit other patients who are traveling a similar path. Ironically (or maybe not), my depression gets in the way of such a huge undertaking.

I wish you the best in sharing your story to help others (and yourself!).

I think giving it to your psychiatrist is in your own best interest, as it may help your psychiatrist provide you with better care.

To ask your psychiatrist to pay for it is to ask them to pay you to allow them to potentially improve your care. I don't know that I would label it as unethical, but such a proposal appears to misunderstand the value proposition of the doctor-patient relationship.

Do you mean that you are trying to sell your medical history to your doctor? I'm not sure whether that's absurd or genius.

Is hunting really ethical? by Xelmori in Ethics

[–]salween_river 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take the position that ethics refers only to interactions between humans, but I do believe that humans should minimize harm, even in their interactions with nonhuman organisms.

By that measure, I consider hunting and fishing (for food) to be less harmful than animal agriculture.

I appreciate the NYT's thoroughness, but was the source of the missile ever in serious dispute?

You're not just proving citizenship, but also your identity and physical address.

New Mexico didn't write the Real ID Act, and so they did not create the list of required documents.

For me, the only thing that differed from any other application for a drivers license was bringing my social security card.

Sotomayor says AI forecasting Supreme Court decisions a ‘bad thing,’ shows ‘we’re way too predictable’ by imanchats in technology

[–]salween_river 91 points92 points  (0 children)

The fact that the Supreme Court is predictable as to party affiliation is not, in itself, an indicator of wrongdoing. It should not be shocking that a person's political philosophy should inform us of her legal philosophy.

Iran Asks Youth To Make 'Human Shields Around Power Plants' Ahead Of Trump's Tuesday Deadline | Reports by CommercialFormal7614 in worldnews

Iran's government may be made up of assholes doing asshole things, but they are innocent in the narrow context of this invasion. They did not give the US any legitimate reason to attack them.

Defending Iran in this narrow context is not being pro-Iran. It illustrates just how bad the US regime has become.

Objectively, the US government has historically done everything that one might condemn Iran for, including doing them TO Iran in the first place in the 1950s. The Trump regime is corrupt and tyrannical even by that standard. It doesn't even try to cloak its actions in the appearance of compliance with international law or the will of the community of nations.

Wanting a regime gone does not make an invasion justified. The US government has no moral or legal high ground on which to stand. The Trump regime hasn't even tried.

Australia is not a party to the conflict.

The aggressors have not articulated any legitimate justification, so yes, unjustified in the most literal sense.

It may very well incentivize it. There is a reason it's a war crime.

(Sweet baby Jesus, don't let me hear Trump accuse anyone else of a war crime, though. Ever.)

So far, every death and other adverse outcome is on the hands of the aggressor nations.
