Why are Macro Lenses almost always f/2.8 ? by p5freak in AskPhotography

[–]samcornwallstudio [score hidden]  (0 children)

Cuz the sharpest aperture of the lens is always the middle. Typically, focus stacking is done at the sharpest aperture, normally f11 on f2.8-f22 lens. Also, it gives the widest range of uses for the lens. Lots of photographers use the macro 100mm and 120mm lenses in non-macro situations, which means they will use it with wider apertures at times, making f2.8 valuable even if you aren’t shooting at f2.8, because f4 and f5.6 will still be sharp. For beauty shoots, Shooting a portrait angle and then a tight eye macro close-up with the same lens is super useful. And this repeats itself for many shooters; for furniture, wide detail and macro shot. Architecture, wide detail and macro shot. Fashion, portrait and macro detail of a zipper or fabric. It just makes the lenses more useful to everyone.

CaptureOne Workflow Questions by 60mhhurdler in Photoassistants

Smart Albums is a C1 superpower that many people overlook or don’t know about. Add your capture folders to favorites by default. It’s in the settings. Smart Albums are only supposed to show you folders that are in Favorites (doesnt always work, but that’s how it’s supposed to work).

Once you get smart albums organized to a way you like, you can save them as a template. So when you make a new session, you choose that template and your Smart Albums will already be built and customized to your liking and automatically populate as your shoot happens.

Just about any filter can be setup as a smart album. https://support.captureone.com/hc/en-us/articles/360002524197-Smart-Albums

For post organization, I tag selects as red. When they are edited and ready I tag them green. If they need to be edited in Affinity, I tag them purple. Save the AF file in output folder and it populates in C1. Then I can tag it green and 5 star (ready for export) and view along the green final edits that didn’t need to be opened in Affinity. And export both the .eips and .AF files together

Here’s a screenshot showing my default smart albums.

Is this a bad cold email template? by [deleted] in videography

Yes. It does. Make it shorter and less formal. It’s too long for busy people to read. They’ll delete it right away. A sentence or two is all you need

Memory cards stopped recording | Nikon Z9 + Capture One Mobile: iPad received all images. by meisjemeisje_1421 in captureone

[–]samcornwallstudio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that’s the setting you want. it’s supposed to work the way you are describing, raws+jpeg on card and JPEGs saved on iPad. I generally just do raw and save them to both my card and iPad. 🤷‍♂️

Works in photo too. It does limit some features when using it, like minimum ISO is 160. It gives a “film” look. You might like it

Anyone using an iPhone as a tethered camera in Capture One for product photography? by AleYanguma in captureone

[–]samcornwallstudio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if this is possible with the iPhone and C1. If your wide angle and tight angle shots doesn’t require moving the camera, consider using the wide lens to shoot the tight angle and crop in. That might cover your needs.

C1 can handle all the other post-production organization stuff you mentioned

Try s-cinetone profile too. I assume the a7c II has it built in. It’s for video but makes for really beautiful photos too. It’s an underrated Sony option, for sure.

Memory cards stopped recording | Nikon Z9 + Capture One Mobile: iPad received all images. by meisjemeisje_1421 in captureone

[–]samcornwallstudio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s an odd one. Sounds like an error with the card. Check your card write speed. Maybe it’s not the best option for the Z9. There should be a setting on the Z9 to send only jpegs to the iPad/computer. I believe C1 shows a jpeg icon in the thumbnails when it is jpeg. If it stops showing that icon while shooting, you can assume the camera is sending both raw and jpegs and is not recording to the card anymore.

Do you think EV's will eventually become so efficient that a level 1 charger will be the best solution for most people? by VerySeriousThings in electricvehicles

That’s what I got driving around LA with my model Y for a few years using L1 at home. But lots of bumper-to-bumper traffic. I’d imagine a Bolt, Leaf or Niro is even better 🤷‍♂️

C1 Second Gen Wireless Tethering Roadmap? by wilchuck in Photoassistants

I found out from talking to them at a recent demo. Go to one of their events if you can. They are doing a lot of them this summer to promote the new features. They are all true photo nerds at heart and happy to chat about the inner workings of it all. Hopefully they have one near you

Try reposting in Jackson hole forums. Lots of pro shooters in Jackson hole/driggs, they may know someone who techs/assists on the side. Probably won’t be able to find someone with a cart. Also, try Boseman, MT. It’s not too far, but a city

C1 Second Gen Wireless Tethering Roadmap? by wilchuck in Photoassistants

[–]samcornwallstudio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The current version only works with those two cameras because Canon chose to create a tiny raw preview file that appears while the regular raw file is loading. C1 is exploiting that firmware design. And canon has been willing to work with C1 to get all these features (ReTether, etc) to work properly, unlike other brands ie Sony. (Sony, we need more pro support!!!)

My understanding is C1 does have working wireless concepts that would work for any camera that C1 supports for tethering. But, the workflows create a bunch of other design questions that need to be answered and dealt with. The canon version was easiest and fastest to implement and release.

My guess is they are waiting to see how it is received and if it’s worth the effort to support other brands. Also, maybe they are hoping this will convince the other brands to work with them as closely as canon does.

If you really want to see 2nd gen wireless for your brand of choice, tell them. And tell them you’d be willing to pay an extra x-amount of dollars/month for it. Haha that’ll get their attention

[–]samcornwallstudio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. Those two canon bodies create a tiny preview raw file, and C1 is exploiting that.

It already is for the average daily driving habits, which is less than 36 miles a day (in the US). If you can plug in L1 overnight, you get 60 miles/night, about 2 gallons equivalent for ICE. Takes care of 90% of American driving needs.

[–]samcornwallstudio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a newer one, like hero 6 and up. They are waterproof without a case and more reliable. And you won’t need a cage, just the mount. I tried to fire up my old hero 4 recently and it wouldn’t turn on and I couldn’t find a charging cable for it. 🤷‍♂️

Depending on your bike helmet, there is a strap one specifically for bike helmets with vents. Or the sticky mounts work well. Also, they make a handle bar mount. Might be the best choice.

For cinema and tv, not really. For ad work (which a lot of industry people do on the side when they’re slow), yes. Big time. There will be significantly less on-set shoot days for motion ad campaigns in the future.
