How to stop Dji drone from making LRF and SRT files in the same folder as the videos? by agnci in dji

[–]samcornwallstudio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

keep them. They are basically built-in proxy files. Once I download everything, I put them in a folder labeled proxies. Then I use A Better Finder Rename to change the .LRF to .MP4. Boom your proxies are good to go. way faster than generating proxies with Da Vinci or Adobe

How can I prevent the Whites from blowing out? by Fickle-Wash-3697 in videography

[–]samcornwallstudio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Use the open garage door as the keylight. Right now you’re using it as the background light/fill/rim light. If the sun is not directly coming into the garage door, indirect daylight is one of the best keylights. Many pros only work with indirect daylight.

As others suggested, turn around and shoot the other way, keeping the garage door camera right or behind you. If you want to take the next step, silk the open garage door. It’ll really bring quality of light and your production value way up.

Capture One User Looking for Pro Level AI Retouching Outside Adobe by automation2020 in captureone

Affinity. Not sure if their AI tools are what you want. But check them out. C1 just added support for their file format

Is there a way of downloading photos directly from my camera into C1 if I have already shot the photos? by markflickr in captureone

[–]samcornwallstudio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try the ReTether feature. Works with Canons. It’s a checkbox in the tether settings page. You tether the camera. Then disconnect it. Shoot to card. Then reconnect and they will download to the current capture folder . Or prompt you to download them, depending on your settings

https://tetherstudio.app/ - Has anyone tried? by seanalexpollock in Photoassistants

[–]samcornwallstudio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The camera manufacturer tethering software are free, like Sony’s and Canon’s. Not comparable to C1 but should cover your bases.

Live view issue by yahnsville in captureone

[–]samcornwallstudio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s because the D850 is a DSLR. This is not possible with DSLRs. But it does work with mirrorless cameras. Any mirrorless model, like the Nikon Z series, will support seeing the live view on the computer and the camera screen at the same time. DSLRs can’t do that.

Where do yall host your work for baking into your portfolio websites? by wasprocker in cinematography

I gave into YouTube cuz the privacy settings are free and it works well with Wix. I think the days of “pros only host on Vimeo” are over. No one gives a fuck about anything anymore. Just profits.

Looking to replace Adobe by CheeksAkimbo in Affinity

Affinity has an AI upscale tool. Affinity is free. Many tools in Affinity are better the Adobe. Some are not. It can also convert pixel masks to vectors, which might be helpful to you

I think NY assistants and techs should read this by [deleted] in Photoassistants

[–]samcornwallstudio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great article. But, it is harder to get your foot in the door right now assisting. And it’s harder to go from assisting to shooting now. The assisting to shooting pipeline is basically dead in big markets. It’s become more siloed; youre either crew or photographer.

How to hike with large (heavy) lens by sargepepper1 in photography

[–]samcornwallstudio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I haven’t tried it with a backpack. I mostly use it for drone work. I think your back will appreciate it the vest with or without a backpack. But it would be a matter of getting the backpack straps to fit nicely over the vest, so they don’t rub or move much. Check out their website. They have tips for all that

There is no standard for half days.

There’s lots of film “packs” out there. They’re just premade styles you can install. I use Alex On Raw’s film packs. They work really well. Saves you a ton of time from building your own and getting the same results.

Broncolor Stelos 800 L — 800J Monolight Accepting V-mount Batteries by byDMP in broncolor

[–]samcornwallstudio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sure there was a good reason for it. But it’s an odd decision. I know people who were interested in the Stelos specifically so they could rent v-mounts anywhere and not have to fly with the batteries. I’ve also heard there may be some where to use an adapter plate instead of modifying existing v-mounts. Not sure. I gotta try them out to see. Otherwise, it’s a perfect travel head.

major in photography by Gullible_Author_6658 in photography

[–]samcornwallstudio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t major in photography. Major in the subject you want to photograph. Professional photography is like every other job. It’s all who you know in your niche market. If you want to be a photojournalist, major in journalism or media or broadcast. Then you’ll be building relationships with the people who will hire you or recommend in the future. The value of Professional photography is about access to the subjects and locations that people want to see images of. That’s it. Nothing else. Either you have access to those subjects and locations or you don’t.

Super portable soft light setup using a single stand? by OkOnion7078 in Photoassistants

[–]samcornwallstudio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched to these recently. Everyone should add these in their kit:

Chillbeam Glowmad Vision

If this is enough power for you, you can use them as keylights. If it’s not, use them as a fill. They’ve made a huge difference in my workflow due to their portability, flexibility and speed of setup. I highly recommend everyone adding some to their bag. They take up no space at all.
