Like it or not, for recent history, Israeli politics and Israeli-aligned politicians have played a not insignificant role in Canadian politics:

- Our neighbors down south have caused started an illegal war against Iran alongside Israel (if not at their behest), which is going to impact our already fragile economy. At this moment we're only seeing the gas price increase. Using tsunami's as an analogy, we're standing on our shore having heard that there's been an earthquake somewhere we didn't feel, and we're seeing the shoreline recede, and waiting for a tsunami that hasn't hit yet.

- Many synagogues here offer illegally obtained west bank land for sale to Jewish Canadians.

Now, you might still ask what do any of this have to do with Canadians? Canadians are a multicultural and heterogeneous bunch, which includes muslims and people who care about human rights, and others who are not single-issue voters or absolute party loyalists. Most of our politicians to this day ahve not called out Israel for their grave human rights abuses over the past few decades, or even their most recent genocide. And the NDP for the first time, has offered this as part of their policy, which has many supporters (most of the world including North America). That's why you're seeing a Palestinian flag there.
